Today I'm sharing a quick little Get Ready With Me, featuring a makeup tutorial from the Westmore Beauty Book of 1956, as well as how to get dressed according to Eleanor King's Glamourise Yourself from the 1950s. 😂😂 As a personal trainer, I use the “up and over” with my clients all the time as an active pec stretch, but most of us will need something much wider than a small towel at first! I suggest starting with a detachable broom or mop handle (like a swiffer). And don’t go all the way back if it feels pinchy in your shoulder, just enough to feel your pecs open up without a lot of discomfort. It was actually so delightful to see these vintage exercises ☺️

Hi Kristina, I haven't commented on any of your videos for awhile but I've been watching them all. As usual, you knocked it out of the park with this one! I'd love to see a video on dressing for your body type. I'd also like to see one where you show us your vintage jewelry (if you are open to that.......there is something about seeing people's jewelry collections that I really enjoy and especially if there is sentimental value attached to it.) I loved the recent family pictures you posted on Instagram. You have a beautiful family ❤

I actually wore undergarments like that in the sixties and early seventies. I never enjoyed a panty girdle, but absolutely preferred it to a garter belt. Loved to buy stockings in those very thin boxes. The stockings were tightly flattened and leg-shaped. My bras were 100% cotton from JC Penney. When new, those straps could cut like knives. I liked slips, full or half. They felt nice on the skin, tho the straps never stayed put. My aunt called that look “Gina Lola Lose-a-strap.” Nice video. I really enjoyed the memories it inspired. Thanks! 💜💜💜

If you’re having trouble with the over under shoulder stretch, you just need a longer strap so your arms are further apart until you can smoothly go from in front to behind you!

Your makeup is SO beautiful on you!! I used to do my makeup very similar and had no idea that it was a 1950s style. Your whole ensemble is so lovely. I LOVE the matchy-matchy as well…. It’s so pleasing to the eye. I’ve never heard of the “points” for each item while getting dressed but I want to try that out!

Love it! If you're makeup is slipping, it's possible that the formulations of foundation and moisturizer aren't compatible. Love the dress 👗

Fabulous look! Please share (it’s so inspiring) where you bought the items- especially the dress and shoes! If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery- I guarantee there will be a whole pageant of ladies dressed in the 1956 era!

Recently I was asked to write some articles on vintage wear for a costume comeptition for a vintage / classic car National event. The jewelry advice I found was very interesting. I have a lot of vintage jewelry, and an article on Juliana jewelery in a Vogue magazine i have from the late 50's says that even if a Juliana set comes in a full set of matching brooch, earrings, necklace and bracelet, you should rarely ever wear all 4, and even three is not recommended for day wear. 2 pieces are recommended for day wear and 3 for even/dress occasions, and the full 4 for very formal events such as weddings and evening receptions. You set your ensemble perfectly. SO jealous youve been able to find period underwear that fits you - Im plus size, but diff shape and Ive never found anything to fit.

I would love to see the dressing for your body type video. I am an inverted triangle so looking feminine is quite difficult. I’d love to see if they were able to do it in the more modern past. I do tend to dress historical with bum pad and corset to try to get that hour glass shape 😊.

My grandmother introduced me (I'm 65) to Coty Airspun and I still love it. Amazon usually has it listed around $7-8 on the regular. If you have scent issues - this is a scented product. Always has been.

I LOVE your eyes!! 🥹 They are just like my dads were, ❤️ I think heterochromia is one of the most beautiful, unique special traits a person can have.😊 I have it too, but it is not as noticeable. My dad had blue eyes with brown heterochromia his was extremely noticeable, and I was always so jealous, but he didn’t like it and I never understood because it was so beautiful in my opinion. I have heterochromia, but mine is quite subtle, I have green eyes with yellow and some brown spots but from far away my eyes just look mossy green. Or some days they look yellow.

For the exercise it is necessary to find a towel bigger than your shoulders, so you won't dislocate them. I make my students do it with rubber bands

I’m a personal trainer and we call that towel stretch a dislocater. 😂 You don’t actual dislocate but you can use a longer towel so your arms are farther apart. Don’t force it. If you can’t get it over than it’s just a difference in flexibility. You can take it as far back as you can just to get a nice stretch. Eventually, you might be able to get a little farther, then a little farther etc. over time.

In 1956 I was 3 years old. You brought back my early memories of watching my mother preparing for the day. She was a professional ballet dancer before we were born,so exercised every morning, was always wore make-up and dressed elegantly before so much as opening g the back door to take in the milk from the step. She will be 102 next month. Maybe her self respect, care for her appearance and lifelong interest in clothes, health and exercise has something to her long life?
