From 1872 til 1962 Edwards was an independent company with both Canadian and US divisions (Canadian plant located in Owen Sound Ontario) General Signal bought Edwards in 62 and Edwards essentially remained "A Unit of General Signal" until 1998 when it was purchased by SPX Corporation. Then in 2005 General Electric purchased Edwards from SPX and so the Edwards brand was subsequently merged under GE's "security division" and reamained so until 2010 when it was finally acquired by "United Tecnologies" and merged under their "Carrier" brand of which it remains today. (United is also the parent owner of the Otis elevator co and Kidde) While they mostly manufacture horns and electronic signals today it would seem the MB-24 is still being manufactured albeit in China(Owen Sound Plant has long since closed) Without a doubt the GS bell sounds by far the best and the loudest.....it would seem the modern MB-24 quality went downhill after SPXs takeover in 1998 as every new bell of that model after 2000 sounded like crap compared to The GS ones and all bore the black labels thereafter. I believe that is about the time the outsourcing began.

On the GS bell, the MB74330 model is actually the Mirtone model number so it’s like a dual brand bell, because Edwards and Mirtone are the exact same brand, i’ve seen the Mirtone logo with the GS logo below it

General Signal bought Edwards in 1988, as well as Mirtone. I’m not sure exactly how long GS owned Edwards but it was probably up until when General Electric took over Edwards in 2005. The GS MB bells are basically just the predecessor to the Edwards MB bells. I have both the 6 inch and 10 inch version of the GS versions and the 6 inch version has a Data sheet with a date of 1996 on it. I can also say that the 6 inch versions are MUCH more rare.

So even though they look the same, the internal build, motor design, terminal placement, gong size, and sound are all different compared to each other! However, I like the sound of the GS one. But even the 439D sounds good too!
