1981 I was with the NZ Army Royal NZ Infrantry Regiment on Exercise with 2 UH - 1H (Huey's). It was hailing we trained doing rapid deployments. The cold air caused the thudding blades to sound more formidable.
7:40 Ah, the smooth and hi-tech sound of the 5-bladed and twin-engined AW-139. Our local air ambulance is one and it always thrills me to hear it.

The best thing about the UH-1 is that you can hear it miles away so you have the time to stop whatever you're doing and go outside. Then there's such anticipation while you wait for it, and then the rush when you finally see it overhead. You can really savour the sound. And I defy anyone to not have Creedance Clearwater Revival in their heads when they experience a Huey

Fun part about a helicopter is the license is relatively cheap compared to planes and relatively easy to control. Got to fly one today and it was fairly easy to steer once up there and it motivated me to get the full license. The instructor never saw anyone do this so quickly without juttering and janking the stick. I did a 360 in the air all alone and thats what surprised him the most for someone who never flew it. If anyone wants to do the training, just go for it. Its really fun.

@@rotorshawn Hey! Wow - two years already gone? Time flies fast - especially those last two years ... damn. well, life has its own rules and it doesn't ask.. Hey, I am still interested in using your sounds for my sound design on our simulated helicopters. Let me give you a little insight in what we do. Flightgear is, besides those big sims, an open source sim where individuals get together building a simulation system for physically accurate flight dynamic systems as well as aicraft onboard systems. It might not be as shiny and beautiful as those payware sims as we all are just doing this in our spare time after our day jobs but it features really great FDMs that allow us to create really good simulations of modern helicopter flight dynamics and that's what we do. You can find more info at fguk.me and on our YT channel where we for instance published this test flight of our AS 350 model kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sMiId9yQys6yqqs.html I am partly recording audio samples by myself, been flying aircraft but not helicopters and so getting samples of them is quite hard, especially in Europe where we have less available aircraft and harder regulations on flying. So I am always hunting for new samples and you did a great job in gathering those sounds. :) Would be cool to be using them on our models. Best greetings from over the big pond!

Can anybody remember in military days behind sector "00" and the Uh's came in to take you out. You couldn't see because they flew tree top height for safety and you had to talk them into your commando's position on the radio. You had to listen from which direction it comes and direction it goes and then without seeing it you told them to roll left or right and when you estimate they are in your direction you told them to roll out. Then you throw the smoke grenade and the next thing you see this massive beast appear in the dust !! That sound of freedom , im going home !!
