Follow us on Instagram! / donegaloverlanding After searching for a GStove from UK websites we found none to have any in stock despite claiming to do so on their websites. In a strange twist of fate it transpires that GOBBQCO in Northern Ireland, where we got our Ooni 2S pizza oven from, not only sold them, but had several in stock with a full range of accessories. So we have decided to create this review to share our thoughts on the stove. We had heard nothing but positive things about the stove from various groups and forums all around the world, so it had a lot to live up to. This is our most successful video and its been really exciting watching the views accumulate. If we could ask you to consider subscribing to the channel that would really help us a lot.
This is the shop where they have them in stock, they deliver to Ireland and all of the UK. For USA & Canada I have added a link further down in this description.
gobbqco.com/
We hope you enjoy the review and we would like to ask you to help support us by giving us a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel.
We welcome any questions in the comments below and we will do our best to answer them for you.
A lot of people are asking in the questions about where to buy it in the USA. I have just had word back from Gstove in Norway (23rd September 2019) and they have told me to give you this web link. gstove-canada.... Hope that helps, and please subscribe and help us out.
We have just uploaded a video showing the Gstove oven being used. We bake banana muffins, bread rolls and heat up meat pies for your viewing pleasure. Check it out!

Good review. I use this stove every day inside my small travel trailer as my primary source of heat at my off grid homestead. It works fantastically. One thing you have to be very diligent with is CLEANING THE FLUE. This stove is not really designed to be used every single day like your average household wood stove is, so if you do use it every day, you need to CLEAN YOUR FLUE OFTEN because the 3 inch pipe clogs up really quickly with heavy use. In the cold winter months I clean my pipes out every few days. You'll know when its time to clean: you won't be able to get good airflow in the firebox and smoke will start puffing out the front door. Right angle flue joints are your worst enemy when it comes to keeping a clean flue (unfortunately I'm forced to use 2 of them in my setup). They are the pieces that will clog the fastest. 45 degree angle joints are better if you can manage them. The best possible option is to use a completely straight up-and-down flue pipe. If my setup didn't have any joints/angles, I could probably get away with cleaning the flue once a month as opposed to once a week.

I've used it as the main heat source in my sailboat for 2 years, and it throws out a load of heat and sounds like a jetengine if you down turn down the air inlet. It's very trustworthy and sturdy. Of course it gives heat fast and losses it fast. I'm considering to build some mass around it. But for sure it is a good stove.

@@d.a.t.4699 some stainless will corrode quickly in anaerobic environment, so might help to leave an inch of airspace... also effective aircrete "mass" is relative, of course but a 2-3in thick removable aircrete dome over the g-stove could add a couple hours, at best, of residual warmth, after the fire goes out, which may or may not make all that much difference, on those looong winter mights... but while the fire is going such an accessory might just bake a pie!

Thank you for the effort you put forth to bring us this excellent review. I find that this is one of three stoves that I would actually consider buying (I already own the magnificent Four Dog Stove Company titanium Ultra Light II). I discovered "hot tenting" in the middle 1980's while living in Wyoming and I never looked back. Unfortunately all of my gear was destroyed in 2017 but I am slowly replacing it. I still need a sled/pulk, snowshoes, and a few odd items, but everything should be in place by the time I retire.

I've made a few stoves now. And learned the hard way that 3in pipe sucks. As it rots out realy fast. I mean like in a couple months you can stick a finger thru it. Better to use 4in but I now prefer 6in. And can get several winters out of its pipe. Also it let's less smoke out when opening the door. So can be used as a fireplace. Heat my 35ft luxury trailer with one about the size of this one. That also is bigger around than long. This allows for a door and stove you can load bigger wood into. As it's not the size of stove that counts most. It's the size of wood you can put in it. And this year it had to be big chunks. As I had to buy wood and got ripped off by a catholic priest. Sold me a load of rotten maple wood. Guess that is what I get for trusting a priest?

Most of the heat that boils the water comes from the top of the stove not the stove-pipe. It needs a simple spacer to slide in between the stove and the water heater after it boils so it will stay hot but not boil away so fast. A quarter inch copper pipe shaped something like a Y or a U with a handle like a wishbone. Call it 'The Wishbone Regulator'.

@@DonegalOverlanding I do alot of fishing it keeps me sane, I've been meaning to get more longer bivvy sessions but times not always there buddy, I got a little folding bbq made by a company called Trakker that takes one off those charcoal bags that you just light the paper and it doubles up as a mini fire pit for the camping and overnight fishing it's only something like £25 of ebay if only GStove were that cheap hahaha. I fish in Donegal alot too and when I had the defender 90 I did a lot of off roading beautiful parts of the world that's right on my doorstep. If the 90 was still roadworthy I'd be doing more off roading content but she's sadly SORNed at the moment.

Just an idea but if you were to pack rocks around the bottom and around the sides of the stove they would heat up and give you heat after the fire has gone out like a battery. I haven't tried it myself but after watching your great video that idea just came to me. What do you think?

I just viewed a video where a guy and his father built a small cabin in the woods. Anyway he had the same stove. I’m thinking WoW I like that stove. The only thing that would make the stove better is if had been enameled... Looking at the weld spots are going to rust. But still yet nice engineering 👍 great demo.👍👍👍👍👍

Same as me. That optional cooking plate was a very welcome upgrade. Also got the chimney-oven and the detachable water tank. I use to have 3 pieces of 1/2" thick fireproof stones in the chimney oven, to use as baking surface (pizza-stone) or in general as heat reservoir. The 2 pint aluminium "boyscout-pot" still fits perfectly in the oven. The whole G-Stove system is so versalite, so durable, so clever. I don't regret one single cent.

What a great review! It's a stove I've looked at before but not seen any proper reviews on it. My only concern is it wouldn't be high enough for the tent and with extended flue not enough draw. I'm always looked around for a smaller one to the Tentipi one I have which can be overkill at times.
@DonegalOverlanding
@DonegalOverlanding 5 жыл бұрын
You wont have any issues with the draw, it really has a strong suction. There are optional longer legs which lift it higher off the floor, they would also mean you wouldnt need the fireproof mat under the stove. The carpet became quite hot under it because it was so close as I only had the short legs and I didnt have a fireproof mat under it.

The Stove is nice. The only problem with it, you can’t control the burn very well. The Glass door has just too many gaps to let air in. A gasket for the door and no window would probably be better.
@DonegalOverlanding
@DonegalOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
You can buy it without a window, in fact its cheaper. However for us, seeing the flames is extremely important. Its beautiful to look at, you can easier see when you need to add more fuel and without the glass door we might as well use our diesel heater.

I'm curious how portable these are on comparison to some of the high end titanium ones that break down for a pack. Considering the proper stove for extreme camping in Alaska, possible during winter hunts, but also don't want to have to haul around something really heavy.
@DonegalOverlanding
@DonegalOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
You can see how small it is. It is not a flat pack stove like some, but they never last as the metal is too thin. You can buy a bag for it to more easily transport it too. Check out the website in the description for prices and accessories.

Thanks Walter. It depends very much on the size of the wood of course. In this video we used hardwood, but they were quite small. A friend gave us this wood free of charge as they work in a factory building high end kitchens and these are off-cuts which they take home to burn. You could have wood burn for more than 30 minutes no problem before considering putting more in, or some even use manufactured firelogs which last 2 or more hours at a time.

@@slappy442 If You got nice some embers in it and load a big chunk of hardwood (as big as it gets through the door) in the oven and close the flaps for minimal draft, it burns about 90-120 minutes. If You want to expand the heating time, just put some fireproof stones or a pot filled with (dry) sand on top of the stove, that additional mass works as a heat reservoir. 10-20 kilos additional mass is no problem for the solid G-Stove. Brikets (those huge round or octagonal Pellets) of pressed tree-bark also works fine and glows for several hours. But be careful with "processed" Fuel, although the G-Stove is made of stainless steel, it's a wood stove... ;)
