41 subscribers? That's too low considering this content! Really good video about a very interesting class. Its weakness was that the rules allowed one-off homologation specials that had little to do with road cars and that kept elevating costs (you've probably heard the story of the GT-One's luggage compartment). Even then, that's also the reason we got those crazy cars so hey, can't complain. It's 42 subscribers now.

BPR came about as a result of a No. of competitors wanting to continue racing their cars. The FIA forcefully took over the running of the series changing its name to the FIA GT world championship. Untill GT3 became the ubiquitous category, GT racing had been in retreat since the demise of BPR, 30 odd years ago.

@@ShortTrackUpdate As DTM became a type of super saloon series, its costs became unviable, as with super tourers suffering the same fait. Personally I don't miss many of the HT classes, reasoning being; there were to many classes for the man in the street to understand

@@gothicpagan.666funny how views differ. In my opinion the current GT3 overtake with its stupid BOP is what killed racing and makes it unbelievably boring. No need for good engineering and good drivers anymore. Just choose the cheapest car, the BOP will be adjusted accordingly and you’re able to win. I grew up on the sportscar racing of the 90s and it was so much more interesting! The number of fans left says everything, these days almost nobody attends the races anymore, even Le Mans is a shadow of itself. Back then the people sat in every tree possible to get a glimpse of what’s going on! The atmosphere was unbelievable!

One little thing, other than minimum production numbers, GT1 and GT2 in this era pretty much had the exact same rules other than tire and engine restrictor sizes, an example of that being the 1996 Viper GTS-Rs pretty much acting as a test bed for the 97 GT2 cars

I appreciate you watching! I chose to exclude this category because it existed as GT1 in name alone, and not by the actual regulations of car. I wanted to focus on the vehicles themselves, and their changes into prototypes due to the lax nature of the homologation rules

Le Mans was the end of GT1, in November 1999 the ‘Le Mans Fuji 1000km” which had a Toyota in it but as ever it didn’t win that either
