GT7 on PSVR2 has Changed my Sim Racing Life! // My Two Month Review - I have now had PSVR2 and GT7 for 2 months and this is my follow-up review to my initial thoughts of when I first picked up the headset. I will go over what I initially thought of PSVR2 and Gran Turismo 7 compared to how I feel about it now. Has my opinion changed? I'll discuss my likes and dislikes if I have any and also if I recommend a buy for other sim racers out there looking to hop into GT& and PSVR2 who might still be on the fence.

Flat racing never hooked me, but I tried GT7 with PSVR2 and now I'm hooked. Over the past few months I've put in more time in this game than I've put into any game in many years. I started playing on a gamepad, but I've upgraded to a wheel, which has made the experience even more immersive. I'd highly recommend trying this setup if you don't already have a high-end VR-capable PC or don't want to spend the money for one.

I don´t actually think I would have bought GT7 at all, without the fact that they made the entire game for VR. I was not planning to get hooked. But I did. So now I have a playseat challenge, a g29 wheel and all my other PSVR2 games a collecting dust. It´s simply just great fun. Even if I do need to go back to the 80´s to be a kid again, this just shows that play does not consider age. You´re never too old to play. In regards to clarity, blurriness etc, I also don´t take notice anymore, the reprojection, well maybe sometimes, but usually im too busy having fun. And I finally secured a win in a daily race in VR as well. Not bad at all :) 48 and still playing with cars, but what´s not to like about VR racing :)

Great video. For me I feel this has gone a step further, it’s not just changed my sim racing life, this combo of GT7 and PSVR2 has changed my GAMING life. Prior to GT7 I barely played racing games, now I barely play anything else. I can only play in VR, I actually feel sick now playing in 2D (weird) Games allow us to have an approximation to an experience, PSVR2 does the best job of this for any game I’ve ever played - I’m not a racing driver, but I FEEL like one. I glance in my wing mirrors, I move to defend, I switchback overtake, I undercut on pitstops, I manage my tyres, I try and predict when that heavy patch of rain will hit, i could go on…. There is something so magical around this experience, driving round Spa in the dead of night when heavy rain hits I find myself hunkering down in the seat to shelter from the rain, it’s madness but that’s how the experience makes me feel. I am hopelessly in love with this experience and PSVR2 is what really makes it. I’m about to invest in a more expensive wheel/pedals/rig and if someone had said a few months ago I would do this I would have laughed - I’m not a sim racer. But I am one now. Also, you’re right the community is great. YT channels like yours, Facebook groups, I’ve just joined my first league and am nervous to compete but all this has been because of PSVR2. Couldn’t be happier playing GT7 like this

The combination of GT7 realism in VR, Force feedback wheel ,and motion is 2nd to none!

The headset is capable of more visually. Red matter 2 is 120 native with 4k textures and the fidelity is stunning. These are very early days for psvr2, developers will get more from the headset and the quality of visuals will improve with time. The oled makes a huge difference to virtual worlds. The brightness, true blacks and contrasts make virtual worlds look much more realistic.

@vgaportauthority9932
@vgaportauthority9932 Жыл бұрын
@@Hugemanazh Red Matter looks great because there's kinda no "gameplay" there, just a guy moving around and grabbing things here and there. There's no physics, no multiplayer, there's hardly any motion, the maps are super small (often times just loading a single room at a time). GT7 has long view distance, 16 cars with high poly count, amazing effects, multiplayer, changing weather, the dynamic lighting in GT7 is also a real performance hog. Dynamic lights have demanded a lot of power for decades. Seems to never end. Games like Red Matter have always looked better than everything else because they can spend all that power on a tiny little area. GT7 could never look like Red Matter. If you think of a game world as a maximum amount of polygons and textures stretched over the visual field, that's what's optimized for. If you have just a room, you can spend aaaaaall those polygons and textures on just that room. You can add SO MUCH DETAIL to individual objects. In GT7 you have to stretch all those polygons across the entire field of view, which could be hundreds of meters or more. That's why the cars look kinda amazing but the tracks don't hold up to the same detail, it would be impossible to keep that level of detail up for the track itself. It's why Battlefield 1942 looked pretty bad compared to Quake 3 on a room to room basis even though Quake 3 came out well before BF1942. It's why the graphics in PUBG is far less detailed than the graphics in Wolfenstein II The New Colossus or Resident Evil 7 even though they came out the same year. The graphics in GT7 are pretty much as good as GT7 is ever going to look on PSVR2. That's not to say there won't be better looking racing games though. If a racing game has less focus on physics, let's say The Crew or a Need for Speed game, they could use more of that power to add effects or better looking textures etc. I don't mean to crush your dreams or anything. We would all love a 120hz racing game that looks as amazing as Red Matter 2, but it's not in the cards I'm afraid.

@VGA Port Authority pubg is a mod off a very old game and old graphics. There are games that do massive multi-player and have fantastic graphics. So really it's not that great of a point. While it matters. It doesn't cause this huge of a difference.

@@vgaportauthority9932 - have to agree. The only way we’ll get true improvement beyond incremental graphical tweaks will be with hardware - ie a PS5 pro or a PSVR2 pro, the second one being highly unlikely! I think people have to manage expectations, the gameplay is being projected twice, one for each lens and to do that with all the speed, multiplayer, lighting etc you’ve mentioned means there’s undoubtedly going to be some comprises. I’m amazed (and grateful) it runs as well as it does

When I seen your first upload of GT7VR2 I was so curious to see how it would open your mind as a PCVR player considering the mindset most have to "console" gaming. All the points you made are spot on. While the headset is still in its infancy and GT7 is still a cross generation game, as a package its a real game changer and will open the genre to millions. I play many types of games from FPS to RTS and SIMS.... GT7 online racing is on another level. The International Championships literally make me shake going in to them because the competition is crazy intense (even try to anticipate a dirty drivers tactics) . As you said It's the complete Package and I'm glad I lived long enough to be apart of it. Gives me warm heart see it affect others the same way. GT8 is going to be 👌 but GT7 will happily do for now. Great community and great content CAS keep it up and I'm postive your channel will continue to grow. 👍

When you are a true simracer you enjoy any kind of setup that suits you, controller, wheel and pedals, VR, flat screen... I already knew I like the Gran Turismo approach to racing, which is a good balance between casual and challenging, and with a pool of global players so big that you know you are always going to have people to play with 24/7 365. Decided to buy a PS5+PC compatible wheel so I can switch between both worlds, and decided to give a try to PSVR2, which has been my first VR experience. Just imagining VR racing was so cool in my mind 😍 It has been great so far, and even though it could be better in some aspects, I don't regret it. It will propably be the only thing I play for a long long time, I mean only GT7 on VR, no PC gaming and no other PS5 gaming. I have only so much time for gaming, and GT7 will take all of it. On GT7 online I'll say that you have to approach it with an open mind, and accept the fact that you will probably be involved in some dirty incidents even if you try to be extra clean and careful, and also that you will probably not win many races -if at all- which is something that the single player mode does not prepare you for. Single player always puts you at the end of the pack and expects you to overtake every AI car and win, that's not going to happen online, so you should just enjoy racing the fastest and cleanest you can with other people that will probably still beat you. And that is fun enough, you don't need to win to enjoy simracing. On PSVR2 I often find myself thinking "I wish this or that was better...", but not because I don't like things as in they break the experience, but because it is so cool that I wish they could make it a little bit better, and they are things that will surely improve in the future with better hardware. Like, imagine the exact same GT7 in VR but running at 120 fps with no reprojection, better reflections, further drawing distances, a little better resolution in the lenses and a little more FOV and a little clearer image with no mura or whatever that is. It's just a matter of having more powerful console hardware, capable of rendering 240 fps (120 per eye), and improving the headset just a little bit. I'm sure it will come in a couple of years -maybe a little more- but I'm sure we will all be still here when that happens, and you don't even need to change the game in any meaningful way, just the hardware. And even though thinking about that future makes my mouth water, I'll say that the current state of GT7 and PSVR2 is good enough for me, I think it has been totally worth the money, and I'm not giving it up anytime soon 👍

Great video! I got VR2 on launch and have not been able to go back and play any other sims on flatscreen since. I actually got into GT7 originally to learn to drive IRL, in my mid 30s and never liked driving, or the racing genre, but decided to just give it a shot and pick up a cheap-ish Logitech G29 + stand setup. I ended up liking the game so much, as soon as VR2 support was announced, I pre-ordered my headset immediately, and then bought a full DD wheel + cockpit rig. Haven't looked back since, it's about the only game I play nowadays. The depth perception and immersion from VR has given me the confidence to actually learn to race online, which has been a blast. I can't think of the last gaming experience I've had that I've been so engrossed in, and don't see myself getting tired of it at all anytime soon.

Afyer finally buying every car i want and winning all the menu books and playing with a bunch of engine swapped cars, i now (and with the encouragment of the awesome GT7 online community, and Cas Gamer) now play 99% online sport mode. Excellent follow-up review! I plan on a wheel & peddles, but since I don't have, I don't miss, and I still find the immersion incredible in PSVR2. I can only imagine the next level of immersion once I finally do add W&P's. In my opinion, if I could only afford one or the other, or one at a time, I'd go headset first, simply because of the immersion. I hope F1 games also get VR support, but I have my doubts, considering how secretive F1 teams are..surely wouldn't be current, up to date cars anyway, or they'd be lacking detail..but I can hope!

When you use a wheel and pedals in VR you are going to feel like you are actually driving the car. Like it's your hands on the wheel in the screen. Then you will see how much a wheels and pedals do for immersion compared to a controller in VR. I compare it to playing a racing game vs being in one.

This has inspired me to get a SIM rig 😊 I had the exact same experience when I first put it on, disappointed by the mura (on my headset it was very noticeable, not sure if this is standard) but now I've gotten over it. I think the visual flaws are less noticeable in more competitive races as you don't have as much time to look out for them! Whereas in the story mode you often can fly by the other cars without much trouble so you spend more time noticing the mura and ghosting etc. I'd be keen to join in on any open Lobby's in the future! Hence the menu books, range of cars available and level of detail of the cars, now best shown in the new VR showroom. But a large preportion of us are here for the online racing. Had an hour and half spare this afternoon, needed all of it to knock a couple of 10ths off your time 😉 its good its giving me a little something to go on for with limited time at mo, not getting enough time to practice for online races at mo with also adjusting to VR. I think that Quest 2+ PC owners came to PSVR2 and PS5 expecting that the experience would be leaps and bounds better than Sony or even reviewers intended. The goal of PSVR2 and PS5 for that matter was always to offer a high quality gaming experience at a fraction of the cost. I don't think alot of people realize that for 950.00/ 1050.00 you can get a gaming experience that is on par and in some cases better than you might get from a 2500.00/3000.00 or more PC + Quest 2 setup. This is not to say that PSVR2 and PS5 is perfect, but it highlights what Sony is trying to accomplish, the gaming setup that rivals high end flat gaming and VR. Personally, I have paid close to 3500 for my PC and VR setup, and when I think about that in relation to my PS5 and PSVR2, I am continually amazed by how good the PS5 and PSVR2 are. Not because the PS5 and PSVR2 exceed anything that I thought possible on my more expensive PC VR setup (although there are those instances where I am absolutely blown away) but because my more expensive PC setup isn't blowing the PS5 and PSVR2 out of the water the way someone might think it should considering the massive price difference. I think that is what most reviewers for the headset intended....that PS5 and PSVR2 raises the bar for we think of for consoles and console level VR in a way that consumers can get a product that can hold its own against the high end hardware. It is a bit a flex for Sony whenever anyone compares something like a GtX 3080 powered PC to a PS5 and PSVR2 because Sony's console and VR strategy is to offer that level of quality for considerably less than what a person might spend on a 3080 powered PC + Quest 2.

This. Elitism has clouded the minds of some PC players that I think they are forgetting why were all gaming in the first place. Give it a few years and this setup will be much more accessible and enjoyable for most because of ease of setup and cost compared to PC gaming. I stopped with my PC upgrades every year and so far haven't looked back. Sony have proven to me that they are wizards with software.

The problem was seeing a lot of initial reviews that they were making it seem like they have not seen anything in VR that looked this good. They weren't really stressing that what you are getting at this cost is great but PCVR users won't be blown away like they were making it seem. I literally thought I was going to be floored the first time I put it on based on how they were making it sound.

@@thecasualracinggamer I think it's capable of more, we have to remember that GT7 was also built with last gen capabilities too, Red Matter 2 looks like it's it's raised the bar again, running native 120 and getting great comparison reviews. But it's still only a modded game for PSVR2. Definitely going to give that a try. Horizon call of the mountain is the only game purposely made for it, but it was a showcase for the controllers to show what is possible, it's still built on last gen graphics. Be interesting if Sony shows what they have cooking for it in next week's showcase 🤞

Great job with the review! I'm not really a racing game guy, but I was excited about PSVR 2 and that's how I found your content. Enjoyed watching a bunch of your videos. FYI there are PSVR 2 games running at native 90 and 120hz already. There are a bunch running at 90, but only a couple at native 120fps (Puzzling Places and Red Matter 2 AFAIK). I've heard a lot of people say it makes a big difference in the clarity of the game. If you want to try some games out to see this in action, there are demos of Puzzling Places (120hz), Song in the Smoke (90hz), Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy's Edge (90hz), C-Smash VRS (90hz), and Cosmonious High (90hz). It would be great if racing games like Gran Turismo 7 could hit 90fps, but they'd have to downgrade the graphics more substantially than the VR mode already does. Hopefully as developers get more time with the headset, they can figure out new ways of getting games to run at 90fps, or at least improve the reprojection techniques to make it less noticeable.
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer Жыл бұрын
I think Sony missed the mark not allowing the headset to also run at 72Hz and 80Hz natively which is still smooth in VR to me and would probably allow more games to not need to use reprojection.
@GreyMatterShades
@GreyMatterShades Жыл бұрын
@@thecasualracinggamer Yeah, it would have been nice if it could run natively at those refresh rates, or had VRR to help smooth out any frame drops/inconsistencies. One of the main things I'm hoping for is that developers start adding in "performance" and "fidelity" modes to PSVR 2 games like most modern console games have. Reprojection doesn't bother some people, who might opt for a 120Hz with reprojection Fidelity mode that maxes out the visuals. Others would choose the Performance mode and accept a graphical downgrade for a smoother 90Hz native refresh rate. It would be nice to have the choice.

Theres just something about nailing a heel-toe when approaching a corner that really makes vr2 worth it. Every car i get into gt7 i immedietely convert into a stick shift so i can always have that feeling. That plus the little details during a race like headlights from the car on your takl illuminating your cockpit at night or seeing fighter jets fly directly above you as a race starts. They should have marketed gt7 for psvr 2 more. I feel a lot of casual gamers have no idea what theyre missing.

GT7 is not the best sim ever. But racing game ever?... Why not? Not sure what could beat it. Tons of multiplayer content, tons of singleplayer content, probably the most detailed cars and especially cockpits. It's all in VR or flat(120hz mode). IMHO - this game is a masterpiece. Very fair assessment, dude. Do you think you would enjoy circuit racing in VR on i-Racing now? Whilst I have major issues with the business model, I have to give them props for realism. Re initial disappointment, I get you. I was the same, and the unrealistic - bordering on deceptive - early reviews by some KZfaqrs set me up for disappointment, and this angered me. An acquaintance bought one on my recommendation, gave it just three or four hours and returned it, citing disappointment, but after 2 months I am in love with it, like you. I feel Polyphony might have tweaked some settings - or maybe Sony did, or both - because it seems far easier to find the sweet spot. I can now find it withing 30 seconds, whereas early on I was struggling even after 3 or 4 minutes. Well done with the racing and wonderful content!

I don’t have psvr or a wheel; I wish I could afford it, but the headset being 550 and the fanatec wheel being 700 leaves it a dream yet. I want to know how it must feel doing the hour spa race that cycles through a 24 hr cycle with rain at night, or Le Mans that starts sunny and can end up with a downpour. In a dark room with a decent headset on my 4k HDR1000 monitor, it is already immersive. I still remember playing GT back in the 90s. Was it the Viper that was the only 7 speed car? Been a long time fan, wishing they had a lot of the 90s sports cars still like AW11 MR2 or a 2G Eclipse GSX for example. Loved Tokyo extreme racer as well. Now it’s time to go watch something on the dd pro wheel and wish I could get it, and prob have the creator make me want the booster to 8Nm and the fancy extra clutch pedal and any other accessories to immerse myself better. Going to end up wanting 3 grand for a racing sim setup :’( Glad you are enjoying yourself and loved the fact that your opinion more so evolved than changed. Keep having fun, maybe one day I’ll do the online races instead of doing my daily miles, pretending I won’t get the least valuable to me prize, and collecting that money for expanding the car collection. Spa = 1.5 mil clean race for 1 hour, Le Mans is around 825k for 30 mins, sardejna is around 720k for less than 25 minutes if you are looking for more funds outside the time trials in the online section. Best wishes

There’s no age for gaming! Over 50, I still love the immersion of gaming! Playing with the VR2 has changed the game: Pluses: You get a feeling of your surroundings. It’s so strong I got sea sickness the first days and had to take breaks feeling nausea. Play on flat tracks to get used to it. You feel the slopes either going up or down, you can finally view it, making your driving even better! The details of the cockpit are just unreal! You can look around with a 360 view from your cockpit Minuses: There is a bit of noise in the image and with sweating and wearing glasses, I need to clean them often. Surprisingly, I see better wearing them than without, although I need them for farsightedness. I had some trouble adjusting the headset at first. You need to be very careful keeping your eyes centered in the settings, position the VR perfectly then tighten it on your head. Overall, it’s magic! Bit pricy but considering the time I play well worth it!
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer 8 ай бұрын
The feeling of the slopes on PSVR2 in GT7 is not correct and how you should be feeling it. That is why it feels extreme in this game. Unfortunately GT7 locks you to the horizon which means the driver stays straight while the car rotates around you. It's not natural feeling and also not the correct view you should be seeing within the car. The correct view would lock you to the car. It would feel more natural on hills and bankings like you were in the car. I really hope we get an update that allow us to lock to car in VR. If you try racing at Daytona, you will really feel how bad it is to be locked to the horizon.

The sweet spot is really small due to the lenses they use, but things are clear. The Quest 3, everything is clear all around. I do think that the reprojection for 60fps to 120fps plays a role in the blurrier look too and it would look cleaner if they ran it at a native resolution without reprojection. Maybe one day we'll see an update if they can figure out how to optimize it for higher native fps.

2:32 - it is not mura. Mura is a term used with screen manufacturers to describe inconsistencies between colours. What you see is a "dirty screen effect" caused by diffuser filter on the OLED panels and it is a tech limitation at least for now. You don't get screen door effect with LCD? This is also absolutely not true, SD is caused by lower image resolution which makes you see individual pixels it has nothing to do with display technology. Quest pro, has SD, reverb GT2 has awful SD and they are all LCDs...

I call it dity screen door as well, but I know a lot of people refer to it as mura, so they know it as that. I also don't say that LCD panels don't have DSE but it's way better on LCDs than OLEDs and no where as noticeable and distracting as let's say, the original Quest.

every time I see video of someone using the PS VR two headset it looks very jerky and Jenkee and I can imagine this is why people get seasick. I just ordered my PS VR two headset but if this is what it's going to look like when I wear it, I will be sending it back immediatelyright now I'm playing on 150 inch 4K projector and there's no jerking or Jenkee looking picture. It's rocksteady please tell me that what I'm seeing on your video is not what I'm going to experience when I put that headset on.

The movement you see on screen is not what you will see on the headset. You are looking at my head movement while your head is staying still. When you wear the headset, everything will move like in real life with your head movement. Hopefully, that makes sense.

PSVR2 has a "sweet spot" of clarity. I take a few moments when i put it on to find the swee spot and after that its fantatic, far superior to the Quest 2. As a long time GT fan PSVR2 has fundamentally changed GT for me, and i mean that in the best way possible. GT7 on PSVR2 justified the purchase alone, everything else is just gravy.

Definitely a small sweet spot on PSVR2. Wish they used better lenses. A Quest 2 hooked up to a strong PC and set correctly also looks really, really good.

The story mode is great because it educates you on so many aspects of racing, car mechanics, and the automotive industry and history. Not to mention the challenge, which is what great games provide. People watching in the room are instantly engaged, even old heads that grew up racing on the streets for real cant believe what they are seeing. And if someone can't handle VR, GT7 plays amazing on a TV. A+ Title. Other VR2 titles to checkout..Switchback, Ghostbusters, Kayak, and the upcoming FNAF Help Wanted 2 should be great. FNAF Help Wanted 1 on PSVR1 was awesome, so was Rush of Blood, SportsBar, & RE Village.

And yet,after 1 year,nobody buying it,so they had to stop production! Why? PCVR is way bigger field,restricting it to only one system- not very clever.Personally,I would buy it,if they make it PC compatible
