I understand what you mean about wanting the character to learn the information firsthand. It is way better then just "Oh yeah, I heard on the news." It has more emotion, more context and conversation.

So yeah, um, how were they NOT expecting to get kidnapped by Julie on day one? Seriously? Soon as you said new gang unit I thought well I know what’s happening tonight! Julie is just so deliciously bonkers that you can’t help being in love with her a bit. Now Abi will forever be my one true love but Julie is definitely hot and crazy one night stand materiel lol. New idea: Your walking around Mirror Park to meet up with a Friend, you come up to some stairs leading down to the lake, You go down the stairs but slip on some hidden ice you fall down the stairs & land hard at the bottom your in a lot of pain luckily help is close by.
