Niko(the Russian guy) is always involved with Professor Phillips's experiments and projects and stuff, so the *least* that Professor Phillips can do is pay Niko for help. And it seems like he'll get paid the money he spent. After all, in the end, Professor Phillips makes Niko come with him for another experiment/project.
