A bit creepy or not creepy at all, that's the question?!?

Not for me. It's more like huming in Tibet song. Given it was a song about a Tibet girl 阿刁, it is related to the background. It was in the original song by 赵雷. His version is very different from 张韶涵's

If u learn more about Xi Zang, u know y the beginning is creepy------their old belief was kind of cult. But, since the PRC liberated Xi Zang, Xi Zang is getting better&better, people got freedoms and human rights. I think that's y the story is about telling A' Diao to seek freedom.

Now I get that creepy feeling lol never looked at it that way before
I don't think somebody who doesn't know Angela's background story would be able to understand what this performance is about. This is a masterpiece, she portrayed all the feelings, the betrayal, the hurt, the anger, the loneliness, the fear, the pain, how she picked herself up, the numbness after all the negativities, the let go, the compassion and the freedom after moving on. This song is another level of story telling only someone who had been through it all can pull off
context aside, its still a great song and a great performance by her, but knowing the context and her life story, it makes me cry every single time i listen to it

Yes, she was betrayed by her parents. She found out that her mother took all of her money, when she was sick.

Sorry to say this "Her mother just a very bad parent" More like money sucker evil..
Thank you so much 柯桑德 and Joe for doing this video series. I used to focus only on the singers and lyrics, but Joe's comments really helped me to enjoy more from the songs. It made me feel like all the instruments could speak and support the singers in expressing the emotions they wanted to express. What you guys doing are very meaningful things! Hope to see more of your videos!
I love the song sang by 張韶涵 and appreciate the evaluation/reaction by Joe.

My take. The different styles and mood from the beginning to the end follows the life stages of the character in the song. It starts from a very minority folksy kind of feel that's reflective of the Tibetan Highlands. When it reaches the part where the electric guitar comes in, it represents the character's youth. You could almost imagine the character's life changing from the rural to the urban area. There's a rock element here, deviating from the original mood, which represents a change in the character's life - tough challenges to overcome. Towards the end, the mood is more mellow when the character reaches old age. At the end, the tree is a metaphor of what the character represents, whether it is perseverance, strength or whatever, and it will live on long after the character has passed on. Tell that to Joe.

Totally agree, all I can feel is about the sadness of uncontollable fate and faith of reincarnate . Started as a little girl with chanting and then slowly built up bitter sweet emotions as her life proceeded and at some point totally broke out with confusion and anger but eventually had to accept her life and let go so that her soul could be in peace and the world reamins like nothing ever happened. I believe he would use a better word if he understood the lyric, which is spiritual.
It totally makes sense if you feel that way because that's exactly what Zhao/Zhang wanted to present. The song tells a story that Tibetan girl suffered in the world and talks about fate and afterlife. There is no other way better than this to start the song with chanting and end in the same way, no begining or ending, just reincarnate , life after life. You can call it creepy or ...spiritual.

I love the last sentence. In Chinese, pronunciation in "You will never perish" sound the same to "You will never cry".

This is a story song. Usually in story telling (not sure if it's in Chinese culture only), it's 起 (start ) 承 (inherit) 轉 (turn) 合 (combine - leads to conclude), so that perfectly described the comments made on the music, and to the lyrics as well.
