The lady and the blonde one after her showed the horse respect and gave him some space. They didn't immediately start petting him or stand too close, and didn't look him directly in the eyes. This is the correct way to greet a horse, especially one that doesn't know you. The horse responded to this and politely said hello back. Been around horses my whole life and I wouldn't be surprised if these ladies are the same 🙂

Wasn't as impressive as a king's guard but I was at Mardi Gras once and was standing on the street watching a performer when I felt something soft and warm nuzzle my neck. Turned to see an absolutely beautiful police horse blowing in my ear and one of the handsomest cops I've ever seen grinning down at me. And I got to pet the horse's nose. Didn't get to pet the cop, unfortunately 😂

Exactly, my brother owns 20 horses on his farm. Nothing unusual or out of ordinary, if you own horses you do feel some of the feelings a horse has, plus whether she wanted or not, if she deals with horses often or daily her clothes will have a certain smell any horses with be able to tell this person will not hurt or treating him badly. I don't own any horses, and I am not even very good at riding on them, but one of the horses my brother owns, never failed to come to see me, asking for treats or petting.

I had a share in a winning racehorse some years ago and on my first visit to see him in his stable I took care to be slow and quiet in my approach. I also made a point of breathing into his nostrils - to which he responded positively. The horses selected for these guards' regiments are fine examples - like the police horses - of how selection and patient training can create a disciplined equine mount capable of being used in difficult circumstances.

@NailHeavenAshford
@NailHeavenAshford Жыл бұрын
And your name describes you perfectly. Do not use the words ‘toy soldier’ in any description of these men. They are serving soldiers. Far braver than most. Also, do you have any idea despite the amount of money this pomp and pageantry brings in? In the year 2021-2022 the Royal Family cost the taxpayers £102.4 million. The bring in, due to the pomp and pageantry, £71,526,000.00 from royal residence ticket sales and gift shop takings, not including the 1,960.00 acres of agricultural land and forest. While the average annual cost for UK taxpayers in royal upkeep comes to around £500m a year, it’s estimated the monarchy’s brand contributes £2.5bn to the British economy in the same timeframe. If we didn’t have this pomp and pageantry the tourism would take a huge hit. Many businesses would suffer badly or even close completely. The fanning effect of royal tourism keeps many people in work. Next time you don’t think it’s necessary to have these people dressed as Toy Soldiers, think of the importance of the traditions for the economy and the active service these brave men and women have seen.

Armed police were added from 2014 onwards following a series of terrorist attacks on guards across the world. The King’s Guards are vulnerable to attack and a ceremonial sword is no real protection. The police are armed with assault rifles, tasers, and Glocks. They don’t “keep people away from the guards with horses” because people are allowed to take photos with the guards, but they do clear the courtyard and pavements before the hourly change-over ceremony.

The stomping off the feet means the horse has something that is irritating it's skin like insects that they are trying to dislodge but also a indication that the horse is frustrated with something the rider/handler is doing.

I suppose the Guard can use those swords. I wonder what training with swords like that looks like. It's not a foil, it has much more heft - which is why they point straight up or lean it against their shoulder when holding still for long periods. For the mounted Guards they have two weapons (not counting themselves).. The sword and their mount. Training for the mount would also be a lovely topic for a video! It won't be dressage but it probably has elements from that.

One thing is clear : these horses don 't appreciate having to stand still for hours...and may of them cannot appreciate all the attention and photographing by the public....!!! Why not letting some 10 soldiers standing guard right there....?? I think this old ritual quite abusive toward those horses....!! We live in the 21 century right now....!!
@skygunner777

It is the 21st century. Despite the spectacle of ceremonial guards replete with burnished armour, swords and ornate uniforms stading at attention at all times, the guards should have an opportunity to stand at ease at all times. Perhaps when tourists and visitors can appreciate that the guards have some level of independence they might treat them and the horse with more respect. The only guards who need to stay alert are the armed police who have the capacity to wield lethal force.

Oh I felt for that poor foot guard. He looked cold and he’s stuck out there for 2 hours. It’s all very well wearing the woolen tunic but I don’t think people appreciate how uncomfortable a cuirass is to wear for any length of time. In the summer you cook in it, but in the winter and if it’s cold, that cold metal will just suck the heat right outta ya, made worse if you have to stay still for long periods. Luckily he was the gateman, so at least he had the option to move around a bit and hopefully warm up a bit but still, poor bugger!

first the horse thinks, people walk through nothing to see here just a horse that has a moment of not being able to stand still... then that young woman comes and stands next to the horse, looks at me, puts out her hand, the horse smells it and a button turns and the horse is calm again.. she tickles my chin, oooooohhh yes, the horse thinks, second hand comes in and see the horse enjoying it, if only there were more girls like that in my neighborhood, the horse thinks... hahaha!!! this horse has the time of its life with those young women who gave it some atantion
