Those guards aren't caring for them they are literally protecting them with their lives. I did some extra research and they have guards 24/7 with automatic weapons. If anything this smaller fact evaluates the strength of these guards and the lengths they are willing to go to keep these big beauties from extinction. GOOD ON GUYS! :)

The last male ("Sudan") died today, 3/19/18. The two females are still alive, if IVF works, they have a sliver of hope. If not, the species will be extinct. All due to poaching. Next time some NRA nut says "hunting is good for the species," ask them what it did for the White Rhino.

Its over the last living male has parrished. And for what? Greed, I seriously hope those who paid a lot of money take responsibility for this loss of a species and finds it a hint to donate money to protect other species in jepordy because of over hunting. This loss is not worth what they might have gained. We have lost a majestic creature. Just so some boys could be men for a moment. What a waste. If this was the cure all for every sickness its still not worth the price thats been paid. My only hope is for some reason a male of the species not known about us found alive and ready to mate. Anyone who's used or bought the spoils from this should be ashamed of themselves. Your children and childrens children will never see one of these alive that's if you can get it up! You only want what you can't have, and your willing to take it at any price. You've cheated the rest of the human and animal population of the world out of it. Why is it you hunt for what was clearly in danger of extension? Its one thing to hunt what's plentiful but only take what you can use but this was done for profit. It's so sad that so many amazing and gorgeous animals are near extinction. On a different topic to distract myself from this anguishing fact. I have never understood why white rhinos are called white rhinos. To me, they don't look white or whitish at all.

I've always wondered, why not protect rhinos by getting veterinarians to sedate them, remove their horn and replace them with a plastic prosthesis? (like a brightly colored one so that it is easily recognizable) It wouldn't be pretty, but it would certainly remove all incentive for poachers to kill them!
