OPR saved the hobby for me. I tried to get back in the hobby with killteam and was a bit overwhelmed with all the rules. I discovered OPR and never looked back :) I haven't played it in a while but for me it's like the essence of wargaming. Great video with awesome forces!

And the best part is even if you don't play it for a while, you can pick up and play with WHATEVER you have and the rules are still easy.

Yeah, I began in 2020 with KT18 and I really liked it, but it got stale after a while and then KT21 is just too much complex for my tastes. I mean the rules in a more basic sense are actually really great, but the game muddies everything up with secondaries, stratagems, items, so on and so forth. OPR on the other hand feels slick, fast and is really really fun.

I've always considered GW's models to be more enticing than their rulesets, and the rulebooks have only become more bloated since like 7th ed. OPR incentivises me to collect their awesome models but play them in fast and fun games.

It’s worth noting that there’s a whole bunch of optional rules to flesh out the core rules to your liking (available on their lowest Patreon Tier). Things like Overwatch, taking cover etc.
@TheGoGoat91

I really like that all of those rules are optional, you can add and remove the ones you don't like, which is pretty cool, heck, even homebrew rules.

I'll also add that even if you're not playing competitively, some of the tweaks in the competitive rules help smooth over some of the common balance complaints. I personally think they should be part of Core, but it's not a huge deal.

Onepagerules really helped me getting back into the hobby big time. I played my first tournament in twenty years and had a great deal of fun, found a new group of players in my area, and gave me back the joy of painting and collecting miniatures. I really didn't think this was possible. It is so much fun!

Almost every rules set in the world is better than 40K at this point. There's no "finally" involved. There are forty year old games like Laserburn and Alien Squad Leader that play better than GW's current offerings.

That Eternal Dynasty army looks great! Just a couple of minor rules notes, heroes don't need to be attached to units and in deployment the player who won the roll off places a unit first then the players continue alternating in placing one unit each until all units have been deployed.
@Bluecho4
@Bluecho4 Жыл бұрын
That said, you generally don't _want_ to leave your Hero units all by themselves, unless they're already high Tough. There's no "Look Out, Sir" mechanic, save the ability to put Heroes into other units.
@molenat9973
@molenat9973 Жыл бұрын
@@Bluecho4 it really depends on the ability the hero has. If I have a pycher, sometimes I like to have him on his own so he can move more freely. Being in a group can hold you back sometimes. The battle brothers standard squad has regen so I like to put a pycher with them sometimes
@Rocknoob49

Hey, currently looking into OPR and can't find details on this: When a hero is attached to another unit, does he move with the Unit's speed, or does the Unit move with his speed, assuming one has fast / slow and the other doesn't.

I've been with the One Page Rules Patreon for over a year now. The Saurians are some of my favorites but I have a few different full armies to choose from. I don't know how to describe it but there's something great about One Page Rules. It's more fun and laid back. It feels more like a hobby and game night. It's been great painting and building up my armies with no consideration of cost. I just print what I want with seemingly unlimited choices to work with.
@Bluecho4

OPR is definitely a game that respects the player's time more. You aren't working what is essentially a second job, that you pay for, just to keep pace with the game. You just show up on game day, maybe take five minutes to refresh on the rules (if that), and get to playing. In games that generally resolve themselves much faster, so it's easier to squeeze a game into everyone's busy schedules.

Other people have mentioned the optional rules available to Patrons or people who buy the full rulebook. But there's also Campaign and Competitive rules available for free on the site. As are a set of Mission Cards, 36 (d66) Objectives that can be drawn or rolled to determine scoring on a round by round basis. So not unlike the 40K secondary objective cards. That way, even if you're not quite ready to spend money on OPR, you have some more options for adding tactical complexity to games.

Thanks for the great video! Some friendly rules notes: 7:08 armies are not deployed at once. Both players alternate in placing one unit each. 13:55 Dragon Bike has Strider, so it ignores only difficult terrain, not any terrain. Only flying units do so. 16:04 Hero does not add +1 to morale roll, just allows unit to use hero's Quality in morale test. 16:49 and 44:49 Objectives are taken at the end of the round. 21:39 Captain went further below half of his Tough, so he should again test morale for pin. 42:05 Objectives are taken at the end of the round and pinned units can not take them, so objective should remain neutral. Please do more OPR videos. Maybe Age of Fantasy?

This has been the saving grace game for me. It drove me nuts that the fluff never matched the tabletop in 40k. It also sucked that so many armies had only the starting 5 and no bench options. Sorry but it gets old seeing the same thing sover and over. With OPR it encourages you to expand and play some of thr case sitters opening up more open games. Combine this with all the new models and you have a great mix. I can now use my Mantic Enforcers, my Relic Knights, even my Robotech models in games. This is the way games should be.

Looks like the main difference from 40K is unit activation and the removal of Strength vs. Toughness. At first glance it looks like other statistics have been removed, but they're effectively still there as special rules ("Tough" is 3 Wounds; Qua 4+ with "Carnivore" is like BS 4+, WS 3+, etc). I will give it a try, I've owned some Veer-Myn models for several years and not played with them. The fixed unit sizes could be a problem.
