@Bryan Nastawa Let me clarify. Did I think it was a GOOD movie? No. Was it the adaptation I hoped for? Definitely not. Would I ever recommend it over the 1998 video version (which is the true way to experience Cats)? Hell no. But the three main complaints people have about the movie is 1) It's weird seeing people act like cats, 2) the "plot" is weird, and 3) it looks awful. Well, being a long-time Cats fan, numbers 1 amd 2 are things I've gotten over a LONG time ago. As for number 3, yes it looked weird and awkward, but I don't think it bothered me as much as it did other people. So once you get past the visuals, the plot and the idea of renowned actors pretending to be cats, just how bad is it really?

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo I'm not saying "just ignore the fact that the plot and visuals are awful". Long-time Cats fans such as myself have long accepted that Cats isn't supposed to have a big plot. It's not about the plot. It's about fun song and dance numbers (which is part of why it works better as a stage play than a movie). The stage musical even has less plot than the movie, and it's mostly for the better. Victoria isn't the protagonist (there isn't really one) and Macavity doesn't kidnap anyone except Old Deuteronomy near the end. Instead of being a whiny brat who is mad because he doesn't get what he wants, his motives are unclear and he's portrayed as an unpredictable menace. Look at Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat. Widely considered one of the best parts of the movie. Does it advance the plot? No, not at all. Just another character introduction. But it doesn't matter, because it's a helluva fun song. It's what the entire move should've been. It sounds just as good as other versions, visually it's very creative and looks good. It is faithful to the original while still doing something new (the tap dance). It takes advantage of being a movie by having the scenery change. The only problem that's left is the uncanny look of the cats everyone loves to complain about, but I seriously think many people like to exaggerate because it's hip and everyone's doing it. I don't get how people can say it's the ugliest movie ever made when 1) some things like the backgrounds look really nice, and 2) Food Fight exists.

This video informed me of the fact that that movie includes a scene of Rebel-Wilson-cat vore-ing people dressed as cockroaches. And I REALLY didn't need to know that.

The cockroach scene is one of the most off-putting and disturbing things ever put to film. Irreversible and Martyrs pale in comparison.

@Luc Germain Even though I'm sensing a bit of an insult hidden in your question there, the origin of that 'joke' comes from their podcast, where James every other once in a while used the expression when reviewing movies and such. It just stuck with the Community and is being used under basically every video of his in some way, shape or form. Hope that cleared it up for you mate. Cheers!

@Luc Germain It started out as a mockery of a common trope in adventure stories, where the moral of the story ends up being something along the lines of "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way". It's sort of in the same vein as "it's not the destination, it's the journey". This basically just takes that to its most nonsensical extreme.

Eh, I could see it. Especially if the reviewer is part of that very specific subset of people who take the virtue of Diverse Representation just that *tiny bit* too far -- don't get me wrong, Diverse Representation is overall without question an overwhelmingly positive thing, but we all know that basically *any* premise can (and more importantly: will) be taken to an extreme degree, and Representation is no exception -- and thus consider any project starring a Woman of Colour to be the height of moving, inspiring cinema. Overall, I have personally always considered _Catwoman_ to be an okay, even mildly enjoyable film, so I have little trouble seeing how someone could focus solely on what positive aspects there are, add an extremely positive emotional reaction to the mere fact that Halle Berry plays the lead role to it, and leave the review that was shown in this video.
