Guess Which Norwegian Inventions You Have Tons Of At Home

The 6 best inventions from Norway that have made your everyday life better and much easier. They are frugal, down to earth and very pragmatic. Start looking in your drawers, cabinets and garage. We guarantee you that some small but good idea from Norway will pop up where you least expect it.
We start in your garden or on your field. From the ice-cold frozen Norway, where nothing else then Polar Bears are happy, we have invented something that makes oranges, bananas and flowers thrive - even in a desert.
The next invention is about Norwegian family values. Meaning the most important one; the wellbeing of children. This item is an international design success - one of the few from Norway since design and aesthetics are not a Norwegian strength. But these Norwegian brands have gotten famous for their inventions.
Norwegian winters are long lasting. They are dark and gloomy. Not much sunshine and daylight. So, our windows are sacred. Our only contact with the world outside. They need to be clean. All the time.
Then there is the most cherished and maybe most typical Norwegian invention. Made world famous by a Swedish company called IKEA. And nope it’s not the Billy shelve. This object is the essence of Norwegian Protestant frugality.
The most controversial and smallest Norwegian invention is the next object out. Here is a major political war between the UK and Norway over which of us can actually claim this smart and everyday invention. In Norway, we are sure that it is Norwegian. In Uk, there is probably no one who cares at all. You have this lying around - and it often shows up when you need to clean. Can you guess what it is?
So, to the latest, best-selling Norwegian invention in the world. You have probably already used it a couple of times today. And you will find it in the kitchen, in the bathroom, in the garage and sometimes in the car. It's about your hair, your house, your garden and your car. It is not something you notice so much, but the invention itself is ingenious.
This video was recorded in a kitchen. Ronald is in a good mood and is looking forward to showing the world what Norway has achieved. The weird thing is that grumpy Mads is also extraordinarily cheerful and curious. He finds this topic exciting. But it would not have been a Yourway2Norway video without sarcasm, self-deprecation and silly comments. You get a lot of that too.
*** ABOUT YOURWAY2NORWAY ***
YOURWAY2NORWAY is a different travel channel. We combine education with humor and entertainment. It’s an authentic inside guide to real life in Norway. We highlight small and large themes, cultural characteristics and Norwegian phenomena. All the stuff you won’t find in a tourist brochure.
The content is perfect for people who travel to Norway as tourists, visit friends and family in Norway, study in Norway or work in Norway. It is ideal for anyone with Norwegian roots and DNA. It is also interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures and people. And for all of you looking for some smile and laughter.
The guys behind are; Ronald Sagatun - a enthusiastic and sarcastic Sami Latino with a Norwegian passport. Throughout his life he has tried to find out what it means to be Norwegian. Now he shares his hilarious experiences. Mads is a grumpy Norwegian dude, providing the channel authenticity and the typical Norwegian way of viewing the world. We always try to be funny, self-deprecating, human and, when it´s necessary; sincere and passionate.

I hear that the back was invented in Norway. They didn't feel it was suitable to have our head attached to our hips and felt that being taller would give the advantage during raids too. Alas everyone now has a back (and a torso) thanks to Norwegian inginuity

Actually, it was patented in Germany, but it's a different type and was never produced, the other paperclip everyone uses is made by someone else. The only difference was the "lock" pin, the Norwegian one doesn't have the last turn on the clip.

I have tripp trapps for both my kids. They are so expensive (at least in the US.... I think at the time they were like $250-350 each) but they are hands down one of the best purchases we made for our kids. It really does grow with them and also allows them some independence since they can get up and down on them safely by themselves. The only problem we've had with them is that they've realized you can turn them around and use them as ladders to get treats off the kitchen counter lol!

Cheese plane has been in my home for years-outstanding invdntion! Paper clips for organizing, and spray cans on occasion (they're particularly useful for killing bugs on contact!). The chair idea is great, and I understand the need for artificial fertilizer (although we have plenty of the real thing, here), but your window designs are brilliant-better for keeping out the cold than many companies, here. Funny about Mads' mixer (it looks more Euro than U.S. Kitchen Aids) as I have the Swedish made mixer and couldn't live without it. Loved this video! Great job, guys!

I just realized what I did wrong when I used a Norwegian style cheese slicer and almost cut off my pinky fingernail. If I had tried to slice off a thin slice instead of a thick one, the slicer would’ve cut easily through the cheese. But since I tried to cut a thick slice, it was hard to get the blade through the cheese, so I had to pull really hard, causing the slicer to slip and cut my finger. It literally nearly took off my entire finger nail. (If it had hit my finger at a different angle, it could have taken skin off underneath my nail too, or even a chunk of my fingertip.). I should’ve known Norwegians would not cut a thick slice of cheese and should’ve used the correct angle. But since I didn’t, the Norwegian cheese gods got me. I learned my lesson!

Viking burial graves contained garment pins similar to todays paperclips and safety pins, along with combs and buttons, beads for jewelry, that could also be traded for currency --- though they also had coins as well, pieces of bracelets could be cut off and traded too. Thanks Ronald and Mads for sharing. The paperclip is my favorite as I found myself playing with them as a kid in so many ways, and have used them as an adult to clean, mend / fix various things around the house, and keep all my important papers sorted and organized.

We watch it together as a family right after watching the "3 scariest things for Norwegians" We laughed all the way through and sympathized as we have scary spiders (brown recluse) and poisonous snakes (diamond back rattlers and corral snakes, etc.) No sharks as we have no nearby ocean, but cringe at the thought of encountering one. We so love your videos. Thanks again for your humor and sharing your insights with us.

The only one I knew about beforehand is the cheese slicer. I learned that it was a Norwegian invention because I saw the video clip with the inventor that Charles Kuralt did during the 1994 Lillehammer winter Olympics. I have one in my home. Couldn't live without it...at least, I wouldn't care to. :D I love the window concept, except that it does not appear to accommodate window screens. In the USA, window screens are paramount if we don't want to be overtaken by outdoor insects.. Haha - the paper clip is the Norwegian Swiss Army Knife. Such a versatile tool! Wait - spray cans? Then do you have spray cheese? Or is that an American invention?

Ahhh! Cheese is my favorite food! I don't have one of those tho. I need to get one so I'm not being so crazy greedy with my Havarti and Gouda! Seriously thank you Norway. I could just pick up a block and take an enormous BITE😈🧀 I would say that's a pretty impressive list for a small country. I loved this. Thank you guys! 🙏🇳🇴

I have one cheese slicer. It is a proper Norwegian cheese slicer. I keep having to retrieve it from odd places around the house; it keeps getting kidnapped by lazy sliced cheese eaters in my family.

I have such a turnable window in my bathroom. It is on a sloping roof, so you would never be able to clean the window on the outside. So: very good invention! Congratulations! Cheese slicer: you can't do without it in the Netherlands. They are not only in every home but also in every holiday home. You even have ones to make grated cheese. I always thought it was a Dutch invention, but now I know it isn't. We have a lot of inventions, which I think are useful too: microscope, fire hose, ECG, cassette tape, compact disc. etc.

There are so many other uses for paper clips, for example...key holder, picture hanger, nail cleaner, reset button pusher, etc... I think the most famous invention in America (besides screwy politicians) are either the light bulb or telephone.
