I remember picking up my Newberry bat & pads from their bat factory in Robertsbridge before I went off to spend a season in Melbourne. It was a great bat - though perhaps a little heavy and low middled for Oz but it was great back in the UK. Though bats have changed since then becoming larger for the same weight.

Well done on the sponsorship. I recently used the Blitz in the season just completed in Australia. I love the bat but it took longer for me to get used to it and it took longer to get knocked in too. Enjoy the sound when you middle it.

Newbery bats are good bats. A little hard on the compression so less spring from the face. It's why I never bought them but I have used them in games before. The middle will also be lower than your old kookaburra one. Pads, gloves etc all good. What weight did you go for? Number of grains? Did they guy's give it a ping test to see what the middle was like? Did you have a tough toe and 'face' put on to protect it from the bowling machine balls. (And I never got sponsored kit in 42 years playing cricket.)

Of course Len Newbery (father of John who would start Newbery) started at GN which is why Newbery use to be based in Robertsbridge, Sussex (where GN are based).

My bubble was 2 pounds 7 oz. This one is 2 pounds 8 Oz but also weighted closer to the toe than my previous bat. Just need time to get used to it 👍
