I feel like it’s important to note that disability does not = physical disability. The man in the beginning said this, and the title pushes that as well. But by Ada definition a disability is “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.” So not all disabilities are visible :)

The person who wasn't fully diagnosed till 20's made me tear up tbh. Hit too close to home. I was misdiagnosed with IBS at 11 years old and it just continuously got worse and worse until finally at 22 I was able to get my real diagnosis, Ulcerative Colitis. I've had some really bad flare-ups recently that have landed me in the hospital. It just sucks to not be taken seriously enough by those around you growing up. I'm paying the price of not having been treated sooner. I didn't know any better previously since family and doctors I was taken to downplayed it as bad IBS so much. But now I have a good gastroenterologist and we're figuring my treatment out slowly but surely.

Wow, I feel this, I've had stomach issues for years and it was passed off as IBS or acid reflux. the IBS treatment they gave me did nothing! it got to the point where I threw up blood a few weeks ago and ended up in hospital which finally led to a full investigation that is taking place. So currently trying to get to the bottom of my issues right now and having lots of tests done, including an MRI next week. I'm glad you finally got diagnosed and are now having treatment. hearing your story has given me hope that I can hopefully get a diagnosis soon too. Thank you and I wish you good health for your future! :)

I can relate to your situation and her's too. My autoimmune disease was progressing slowly as I was growing up. My mom noticed it once when I was 9 years old and again in High school and college. It was not until September of 2020 I had a horrible flare-up and was diagnosed again in March of 2021 which is very rare, then I was recently diagnosed with Tourrette Syndrome that I didn't know I had.

oh my goodness I relate so hard, I have had insanely bad stomach pain since I was young and each time I went to the doctor, my pain and my symptoms were overlooked. 5 months ago I had, what we now know, a flare-up. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Luckily I was only 15 (now 16) and they found it quickly. And it happened in Germany, which has an amazing healthcare system so I was lucky to get quick and effective treatment. I'm now on biologics treatment and things are getting better. I wish you all the best, it gets better I assure you. xx stay healthy

Yesss because stuff like chronic migraines, or other chronic pain conditions are things that I feel like the general population don’t consider disabilities and they really deserves more recognition. Especially considering how common they are! People only like to recognize things as disabilities if they can see a reason for why it may ‘make life harder’. But I hope to see more invisible disabilities represented and included in stuff like this

It would have been nice if they had people with mental disabilities (as they are still disabilities contrary to what that one guy said) and also people with unseen/internal physical disabilities. I have internal physical disabilities and also fibromyalgia that cause me severe pain but literally no one would know unless I tell them because I look "normal". Also because I look normal there was a ton of gaslighting from my doctors about my pain my whole life. I didn't even find out until I was 22 and I had went to multiple pain clinics demanding an Mri. It just would have been nice to have more representation that there are different kinds of disabilities, not just ones where your missing limbs or in a wheelchair.

5:00 - Very relatable story. I identify as partially abled and I basically was born with an illness (Lupus) but it didn't really pop up untilI was 19. I agree about the gaslighting by family; my family thought I was faking it. I also went through a misdiagnosis of possible MS or ALS and being told I would be in a wheel chair by 30,. I was in a ton of pain for most of my 20s which sucks but I did have some good moments thankfully. I at times went from bed to couch to bed and it was really rough because I was a decently active kid. Most of my issues were in my lower back and legs; I also walk with hiking poles and soft brace on bad days, the terrain here is kind of rocky. I also had weakness and tremors in my hands...But I've gotten significantly better after I changed around my medication. Overall body pain is gone but my bones are weak and my only pain is in my left knee and lower back. I'm trying to field feedback, would anyone like me to talk about it? Either on Tiktok or KZfaq.

I don't mean to pry but do you only have lupus or do you have any other diagnosises because you're situation is almost exactly what is currently happening with me, but I have degenerative disc disease currently in my lower back and hips, arthritis in my upper neck and spine and a L4 injury cause everything below the injury to curve and I get a lot of pain and numbness in my hip and leg area but the rest is all the same. And my doctor said because I don't have the butterfly rash I couldn't have lupus even though it runs on my mom's side
