For people that wear veils and want to start on historical costuming: for most of history people wore head coverings, and for the majority of this "most of history" they wore veils. Maybe you are only looking at a certain country's fashion at the time you're interested and you're only seeing hats and caps, try and look at other countries and you'll *absolutely* see lots of veils. For example, I'm researching 18th century and most of what found first was about France and England, but when I started finding things about Spain I saw *soooooooooo many veils* all over the place, and since I'm trying to find more information about what people wore here in Brazil and I can't find much about Brazil or Portugal and I know that Portugal and Spain had very similar dress styles at the time, looking at what was going on in Spain is very useful for me, so I'm considering a veil or a gandaya (which is something I'm absolutely obsessed with since I discovered it) for my 18th century outfit.

Agreed! Unfortunately with the way selection/promotion algorithms work, many social media apps specifically narrow down the selection of faces, creators, ethnicities, types of appearance etc that they bring to viewers' attention? And of course this then reinforces the reign of the current "Instagram look" and makes many people feel like that's the only current beauty 😔 I really enjoy watching creators who help remind us that history and human variation are both way wider than we think...

European historic apparell is more than 'á la mode' clothing. You have many African and East Asian clans roaming Europe (as merchants, mercenaries, rulers, etc...) until 18 century, and if you take Cale peoples into consideration until XX century. European phenotypes are the most heterogeneous amongst all the 'continental DNA pools' because of that, which means Europeans are genetically more diverse (as in getting DNA from all the other continents) in larger extent than Asia and Africa in general, and America until XIX century. I'm bringing DNA into the conversation due to the 'group' factor that clothing had in identifying kin DNA in non technological societies, which is the topic. I just want to mention east and west Iberias, Albania, Norway, Romany or Turkey regional and historic clothings so you can see the diverseness of Europe historically.
@m.maclellan71472 жыл бұрын
@@escaramujo to be honest, on the DNA level, I think it WANTS to refresh/blend/introduce NEW DNA. I think it is part of surviving, anything gets too stagnant, someone is going to be attracted to the outlier ! I think that it's harder to study like that, but, think outcrossing is a factor. Life is fluid.
@escaramujo2 жыл бұрын
@@m.maclellan7147 culture, traditions, languages and, of course, life are fluid. Indeed.
@georgiebennett33362 жыл бұрын
@@escaramujo I would also like to add that trade between the Old World region made it easier for culture to become fluid. East and West for example had a lot of fashion exchanges. Too many that it blurred the lines already. One of the finest examples of this is the silk fabric. Imagine if silk never arrived in Europe from China, we wouldn't see those gorgeous silk Robe a la Francaise, and other historical dresses from the renaissance that became icons of European high fashion. Another example of these fashion exchanges, albeit more specific, would be Manton de Manila, which is an important fashion piece in traditional Spanish and Latin American attires, and were larger versions of the Filipino shawl "pañuelo".

The young lady with the blonde pulled back hair whom you didn’t do much to - she literally IS The Girl With the Pearl Earring ( sorry I missed her name, I had to run out suddenly lol)

And on a related note, French Bulldogs would be the "plucky heroine/hero" trope as they were well known to belong to "ladies of the evening", who walked their dogs along the Champs Ellyse to attract business ! 😉 (I own one but not in that business!)

Mememom realizing that 5, 000 faces is so many faces and lives. Me agreeing....and then realizing how many MORE faces and lives her 1 million followers have 😮 Thanks so much for this video! I'm not in it, but I know being in this video is likely the highlight of someone's week/ year and it's lovely you did it. (Lowkey wouldn't be upset if it became a series eventually).

Nabia has the CUTEST FACE! I think she would be the youngest sister in a Jane Austin novel, definitely lots of laughing and getting into mostly harmless trouble.

Man, this is so well done! You kept apologizing for the art but it's clear to see that you really put a lot of concentration in the details and shading, and it's so nice to see that you really tried to make them look good. Like you didn't just make a block of color for the hair, you added layers of colored strands. Most people that do this kind of video just add a few colors in somewhat the same shape, or just show a picture next to them without even trying to photoshop. And you looked at EVERY photo??? That shows you really care! Most would just look at a couple and say, yup, that's enough for a video and call it there. Plus, I really appreciate the fact that you used gender neutral pronouns.

Ever since I first learnt at school about the Fin de siècle, or I think it's called the secession in art history, I loved the style. The way people looked during that period, the hairstyles, the fashion. I have to say that there's something in my look also that resembles women from that era. It's so strange.

That was one hell of a compliment from Karolina. I clicked your profile to see if anything was going on content-wise, and I immediately see one of my favourite songs (YeYe - ゆらゆら). I think I have some playlists to listen to, can already see some quality stuff I know I like.
