Hi, Aqua Watch Man! My favorite is the 2254.50.00 but had to realize it'd be downright impossible to find one in 100% pristine, or even in minty condition in Europe, so I just gave up the search, until I found the "holy grail", the 2230.50.00 "non-AC" in pristine, almost unworn condition with original finishing, box, papers, and everything I wear this baby every day (have a video of a close shot of it on my channel), bought it exactly one year ago last November, and it still feels special 🥰

In the same way, I'm starting to give up on trying to find a 2531.80.00 "Pierce Brosnan Tomorrow Never Dies 007" automatic in immaculate condition Immaculate as in factory finish with zero scratches or dents, and no previous refinishes, intact case tubes, Luminova dial and hands with no defects and any marks of removal, bezel with no improperly polished edges (I'm furious when I see that being done, as it's an instant giveaway that the watch was in the hands of someone whom it shouldn't have been, without any knowledge of how an SMP bezel should be refinished properly), bracelet that wasn't stressed to its limits and has flex in all its links, etc. etc.: I know, it's like wanting to have a 60's Cadillac in factory condition, with the seat wraps still on 😁 It's sad to see the abuse (and I'm not talking about general, careful wear) that these watches get, and the fact that they aren't made anymore: the new 300M's and PO's don't appeal to me due to their movements, and I feel much safer with an ETA based movement that can be kept alive in perpetuity (even with non-branded replacement parts if needed) long after the parts for 8500's and 8800's will have dried up and became inaccessible) I've even thought about buying up some spare parts (like a replacement original crystal) for mine, as the 2230 has a few tenth of millimetres (0.2 IIRC) higher than the non-applied ones, and I'm already freaking out about whether it'll be available if something were to happen to mine during its lifetime: bracelet links and spare tubes, crown and HE valves as well Generally I trust Omega to keep their proverbial sh~~ together for at least 25-30 more years, but we can never know 😄

I too prefer these older ones over the new models. I'd rather have an original unpolished one with scratches than most of the refinished examples out there, which are usually overpolished to the point of rounding the points on the bezel, the lyre lugs, etc.

2254.50 and 2255.80 in my stable. As we've all heard, you put them on and they "melt into your wrist" and you don't feel like you are wearing a watch for the day.

Thanks for this I have the 2252.50 36mm mid size automatic but have just bought the 2254.50 41mm automatic as I wanted to "go large" Totally agree this seamaster is the best looking SMP out there , the sword hands are a thousand times better than those awful skeleton hands and give the watch a vintage look I never knew there were so many variations out there!!👍

According to the OMEGA website, there is a case size difference between the 2254.50 and the 2054.50. They write that the 2254.50 have a diameter of 41mm, and the 2054.50 have a diameter of 41,5mm!

Surprisingly, there is a lot of wrong info on there. The cases for those two are the same, you can swap bracelets, bezels, dials etc. There are other watches where they have the size wrong by several millimeters. Really odd they don't clean it up.

I had no idea they made some with applied indices. They look amazing! I just wish they made one with the applied indices and a black bezel.

Some people have modified their 2254s with the dial from a 2230, and I have also heard of modifying a 2230 with the black bezel of a 2254 to achieve that look. It is my hope Omega eventually releases a 2254-like watch with the more modern features like applied indices, ceramic dial, etc.

According to Archer who is extremely knowledgeable on all things Omega, the Great White was also available on rubber strap, think same ribbed one that was found on the black dial GMT. Good vid btw.

Hi @Tetlee: is there a way to get in contact with Archer directly? I'd have a ton of technical questions to him regarding parts availability and general advice about which watches will have issues with spare parts in the future (Basically I'd like to know how long my specific Seamaster could be kept running and in pristine condition, and which Seamasters (including Planet Oceans, especially ones with the 1st generation 2500C/D movements) could be still bought with an ease of mind, without having to worry about the future regarding serviceability) And I'd like to know these in ballpark numbers: how many Omega-qualified watchmakers are there, what kind of volume Omega stocks parts in, whether they can make parts if needed, whether all SC's have the same sets and quality of tools needed to carry out servicing, and all this stuff

I much prefer the quartz models as the 3 o’clock marker is the same size as the 9 & 6 markers whereas it does not seem to be on many of the chronograph models.
@omegawatchfan
@omegawatchfan Жыл бұрын
That is a subtle difference but I agree it looks better on the quartz, more visually balanced.

At 3:16 you show the grey face model and I notice it has a white date wheel with black numbers. I have a 2064.50 quartz with a black bezel and face. It has a white date wheel which I have never seen on this model. It’s been authenticated twice and no one knows why the date wheel is this color. Is there a precedent for this? Or is it an after market addition?
@omegawatchfan
@omegawatchfan Жыл бұрын
I replied to your other comment in more detail. My guess is the movement on your watch may have been swapped with the white date wheel version found on the 2265.80 (or similar).

Ian Thorpe got a seamaster? Holy heck! Looking at this I can see that Omega have lost their way. The GMTs are ghastly (barring the Great White) but the 3 handers are gorgeous.

I do think the black GMT's bezel is a weak point...it would have been much better with an all-black bezel. Some people have modified theirs and the result is very nice in my opinion.

This is so helpful and insightful. Do you know or anyone knows the production years of the 2232.80 blue dial?
@omegawatchfan
@omegawatchfan Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I believe they were primarily made in the early 2000s. Omega started adding a laser etched globe to case backs (as a result of a trademark lawsuit) around 2007, and I have never seen a 2232.80 with that globe marking so I assume they were not made after 2007, but I don't know definitively.
