As everyone well knows, PUB sound dynamics are very poorly optimized right now which hopefully will be rectified by the developers sometime in the near future? However, for those using the Sound Blaster Z sound cards and with decent, high quality headphones (i use Sennheiser GAME ONES) and after much in-game trial & error testing, i have finally come up with what i believe to be the BEST sound setting tweeks for PUBG as follows: Sound Playback Configure = Stereo (NOT 5.1 or 7.1 surround) Sound Properties Advanced = 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality) SBX Pro Studio = Off Equalizer Settings: 31: -4dB 62: -3dB 125: 2dB 250: 4dB 500: 6dB 1k: 5dB 2k: 10dB 4k: 10dB 8k: 9dB 16k: 9dB dB Level: 10 Re-configuring your sound settings as shown above will greatly improve your overall experience in game as you will now be able to pinpoint the direction gun shots are being fired at you as well as allow you to hear enemy footsteps nearby with much better clarity. If anyone else has some EQ settings they would like to share please feel free to post them in this thread as i'd like to try what others are using. Enjoy!!!

I hate when I'm standing on top of my Dacia in the middle of an open road and 8 snipers with Kar98ks are trying to take me out. Probably my least favorite part of the game. It's just so tiresome to whip out my AWM and headshot them. It might be easier if I put a scope on it, but nobody has time for that.

What I personally found most easy, was listening to the gun "pop" as apposed to the wizzing. The "pop" is telling you exactly where the enemy is located. This video really helped!

xD there is no way to tell which way shots are coming from in this game I have a 7.1 headset and it doesn't matter what direction shots come from the sounds are so fucked in this game

So the solution would be to turn 90º anytime you get shot from the front or behind if you can't find the shooter. That way the sound will definitely change to your right or your left and you can finally pinpoint the direction of the shooter.

Something i experienced which might be usefull for some is, that the Sound gets calculated when the shooter shoots, not when the bullet "whizzes" next to you. This means, when you hear a shot and turn your head, the sound wont change based on your movement which can be misleading sometimes. Correct me if im wrong, this is just my theory after roughly 600 hours in this game.

You said this is how gunshot in real life would work. I would disagree with you. Serving my time in the Army (now separated) and was deployed in Afghanistan, I would love to inform you that's not how it works in real life. In real life case scenario, you will be able to hear the origin of the gunshot sound even from a 700m-1000m distance whether you getting shot from in front or behind. Due to the human acoustic hearing is not considered 7.1/5.1 surround sound (which the game is format in) but instead binaural sound. What this game lacks, when it comes to gunshot sounds, is the depth/dynamic of it. Far from real life. But good video and good information! :D

Thanks for the guide! So far, I almost always die without ever knowing where my killer is, never being able to even put up a fight. I almost never see enemies before they kill me, but this might help me survive a few extra seconds against players with worse aim! :)

This is also a reason why AR's fired in somewhat rapid succession are actually better for sniping than sniper rifles because you can confuse the hell out of your target with all the whizzing and sonic boom chaos going on around his head.

They really need some sort of HRTF audio engine (positional/3d audio), as that would just about make this game perfect from an audio standpoint. All of the gameplay in this game is fundamentally based on sound and, though the audio quality is great, the actual levels and directionality are so messed up. I should not be able to hear enemy footsteps in the next damn house over. Maybe if i’m outside the house, yes, but in another building? And the directionality and immersion truly suffer while playing this game with stereo audio (what this game has), as opposed to the as opposed to what could be had if the dev team implemented a truly positional 3d audio engine into the game.

Awesome video. This controlled testing situation made me realize what to listen for. Personally I found waiting to hear the gunshot sound was the best way to locate where the shooters were at. The whizzing sound is kind of confusing to me.

In real life you can tell if shot is in front or behind. The shape of your ears cause sound from the front to funnel in, and sound from behind to vibrate your ears from behind. Sounds are slightly different when they come from behind. Dolby has used a process to modify sound coming from behind to create virtual surround, where despite sound coming from in front of you, you can be tricked in believing it's coming from behind. This is how stereo surround on headphones works also.

The title is a bit misleading dude... You didn't tell us how to know where we're getting shot from, you just concede that it's hard to know.

They should really find a new sound engineer. It's almost impossible to know from where you are getting shot. I play the battlefield games and i can tell where the shooter is with almost 100% assurance. Overwatch too. Its frustrating to die without knowing from where. Maybe they could add a death cam in solo queues so you can learn it...

Great video very helpful! I would also like to add that listening to the impact point of the bullets also helps with the direction. If the impacts to the wall or ground is coming from the left, then the shots are coming from the right. If impact visuals and sound are in front of you, then obviously you are being shot from behind. My 2cent is all. More power to your channel!

Great solution to this to update the game into realistic audio and bullet impact effect. Usually sound come any derection. The sound at close to mid range usually came from all directions, you will be confuse where really the enemy is.

basicly the way i find my shooters is listening to the gun sound like he stated(ignore the whizzing) then figure out the distance , once you figure out the distance its alot simple to pin point his position and always look more muzzle flash. what i wish this game would add is bullet tracer rounds or just add tracers to figure out where we getting shot from and snipers would leave a heavier trail. but thats the beauty of the game is more of a challenge not knowing where you getting shot from. but they could add some realistic effects to make it easier to pin point , we dont want to follow cods direction of okay when im hit i can just look at the hit marker and face in that general direction

I just got PUBG on Xbox One S and grabbed a Plantronics RIG 800LX and setup the $14.99 Dolby Atmos. Played for a couple weeks and couldn’t pin sound direction. With ear buds on iPhone I could tell your gun shot directions. Listened with my $150 800LX and had difficulty telling left or right. Shut off Atmos and bam I can hear sound direction. Thanks for the video!!

This is a GAME for fun, shouldn’t become a science experiment every time someone shoots. Hit indicators would be simpler.

In real life you could deduct the position of the shooter from the side of your body being hit, which is impossible in this game.

Love your vids. I got an idea for a video try to make a a guide about how to heal the most effective and best way.

Something i do a lot besides hearing where the shot comes from: looking at the bullet impacts, for example on what side of a tree that is standing next to me. with that you can also locate where the shooter is and on what side or your cover you must stand.

I found that with the kar98k you will just hear a crack from long distances but if you hear something different than that normal crack you hear all the time then the target is close by.

I watched your video, then had a few games. A few minutes after a drop I heard the a woosh wizz past me, then a split second later I heard the crack of the shot being fired. I immediately turned my head to that sound where I saw the shooter. I took cover to get out of the line of fire then charged the player hard. He killed me in the end but I was really amazed how effective your guide was. Thankyou

Haha! Stellar video. I would train my Soldiers back in the day about the 3 D's: Direction, distance & Description. By a little discipline by sound you can determine location of shot & the whiz determines distance & skill. This is a great game with tons of room for improvement. Happy Huntings!

I've been looking for videos like these for a real threat involving a shooter since pubg has came out the videos have exploded

so what you need is obviously a headset because otherwise you cant hear the direction and if you get shot do a 360 and measure where the around 3 sec sustaining shot sound comes from.

Learning this all things at once makes me quite the game and do the homework . I find it pretty hard to keep in mind this all things and detect the enemy's spot within second.

Outfox is not working for me...I get 10% ping increase on average

I'm a noob but this has helped me tremendously: use a virtual surround audio software with your headphones. I use Razer's. This makes it A HELL LOT easier to distinguish between the sounds of shots coming from in front of you and those from behind you.
