I would dissagree with TPU not for heat resistance. in my testing I can put PLA in a boiling pan of water and use a potato masher to squish it, TPU (95a-100A) the few types I use seems to have no degradation after 5 mins of hard boiling. I don't know why this is but I tested it and it retains shape and structural integrity. and imposssible to deform it whilst its beeen boiling hard for 5 mins I have no idea what that red TPU you used but its garbage. theres no way you can crack a hard 95-100a TPU unless its not really TPU.

Ultem 1010 is harder to work with than PEEK. Ultem 1010 loves to crack and de-laminate if you can't match the chamber temp of a very expensive Stratasys machine. PEEK is more forgiving in lower chamber temps, such as 70-90C than Ultem 1010, by far. As long as your extruder can meet the required temps, the overall experience of PEEK is much better than Ultem 1010, and to some extent Ultem 9085. Peek layer lines go down smoother, and respond better to slight cooling fan usage for fine details better than Ultem 1010. Carbon fiber Ultem 1010 is a different story. Carbon fiber Ultem 1010 blends crack very little if at all in the same chamber temps of 90-100C, making it much easier to print. Carbon fiber PEEK is also a pleasure to work with as the reduced warping makes it easier to print large, flat objects.

As a corollary to this video, why not make one that comes from the opposite direction, that of use - printing a fan blade, printing a gear set or transmission, printing a statue, printing a drawer handle, etc. Basically what material to select for the type of print. The two together would provide a very good insight in how to select the right material for the job at hand.

...Might be helpful to compare the PEEK to the only other material in this list that's remotely in the same use/strength category, Nylon+carbon fiber (chopped and continuous). ...People making arts and crafts prints don't need to know how PEEK compares to the price of ABS, because they weren't remotely considering using it. ...People considering printing high-strength stuff with Nylon+CCF might want to know. In fact, finding decent comparisons of "high-strength 3D print materials" online (in one place) isn't that easy. How does "top of the line laser metal fusion" compare to PEEK and Nylon+CCF? (So we can know how long we have to wait for Moore's law type computation advances to really benefit the end-user...)

i thought pla was smelly, then my 3d printer got clogged so i took the filament and stuff out to clean it and sure enough the pla i ordered was actually abs, i printed with abs for a while and was like "this smells too" so now im not afraid to print pla

I’m looking for help/suggestions. I have a cat corner scratcher that my cats love. My issue now is one of the cats developed an allergy to plastic. No one makes them plastic free so now I’m trying to figure out how to make one. This video is really helpful but I have zero knowledge on any of these materials. Can anyone tell me if/what materials are plastic free? Or maybe a recommendation? ANY suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

This is the best and most informative video I've watched regarding materials for 3D printing. The video was straight forward and easy to understand even for beginners and dummy like myself. Excellent video and thank you.

Great starter guide for all the people who got printers for the holidays! PLA all the way as your primer into the world of 3d printing, so easy and forgiving. I got pushed into the deep end learning with ABS (wish I knew about this channel back then). Spent more time tuning the printer and being disappointed with failed prints vs getting that initial encouragement of success. Granted I learned a lot of lessons but not everyone is persistent or stubborn as I am.
