Thank you so much! This is the most insightful video I’ve found on this topic so far! I live in a high rise apartment complex as well and my bloodhound puppy is just past that 6-8 month age window… but am not sure what to do whenever she does start that first cycle. She’s definitely not ready yet but because we live in an apartment, I’m wondering what to do when her special time starts. Thanks to you, I now know that she’ll need to go through that very first cycle regardless - but as for what to do during her discharges (especially when she needs to potty)?.. That is where I feel lost. Personally, I don’t want her to be spayed anytime soon. I just wish I knew how to handle the cycle in this kind of enclosed living space. Your video has helped tremendously. What’s your secret for handling potty breaks and grooming sessions/showers while she’s wearing that diaper?

If you have a male dog that is still intact, even as a puppy, and you want to neuter them, please choose your options wisely before you can do this because uneutered intact male and female dogs are more healthy than those who were neutered their more heavy weighted and prone to health issues and a shorter lifespan than those who weren't neutered. Plus not all vets put dogs under for surgery for this.

this. my first rescue (my pfp) was fixed at 4mo and we got him at 6mo. he has always had hip issues and been prone to obesity regardless of how much exercise he got. none of my in tact dogs had these issues. call it a coincidence but it’s science.

Now there is more awareness about hormone sparing spay/neuter. Because keeping their hormones goung is the key to their long term health and longevity.

OMG you read my mind! I've been thinking it's been so long that I've had a puppy I forgot what their heat was like and how long it could last. From what I've read the longer you can wait to spay the better because studies show it messes with their endocrine system if done too early. Love the diapers lol! And here I thought a week long was terrible hahaha!

With the heat and the spay we had a busy few months but I’m happy we got it all taken care of :) The diapers were a life saver! Yeah haha I couldn’t believe she was still bleeding at 5 weeks 🙈

Thank you! This is the only video that had the information I was seeking! 🎉 I can tell my Puppers is starting hers from the swollen/ enlarged lady parts and I’ve seen one small stain. She’s almost 10 months. Also will be doing just as you did, let first heat happen then get her fixed. I know she’s ready to go back to her all day dog play! 😅

There’s good information online about why not to spay but especially while your pup is growing and maturing. They need their hormones. Check out Dr Becker or Dr Judy Morgan’s channel.

😱 gotta prep for my Doberman, is in early swollen phase 11 months old, gotta buy diapers asap, put towels on beds etc, Willa seems so chilled, my baby is v demanding for cuddles and to go out and meet dogs, gonna be tough! She do loves her runs out

Not really, a breeder that cares about his quality of bloodline doesn't want it tainted. Theres too many "backyard breeders" who don't care about dogs health and just want money. How to prevent that is beyond selective with who you sell your puppies to.

Not really. It's his choice to sell whatever he wants with whatever condition he deems appropriate. If the buyer doesn't want to buy the dog due to the aforementioned conditions then the buyer should just go to another seller.

I have a 5 month old tiny toy poodle who will be getting her period soon. I have had about 5 male dogs, we currently have 3, this is my first female dog. I did some research, and I have diapers and a crate. But is there any further tips? Much appreciated!

You can use panti liners or regular pads in her cloth diaper or even in her disposable diaper.

It's interesting to hear that your breeder does not want her to have puppies. The breeder that I'll hopefully be getting a puppy from actually would prefer for spaying not to happen, since she wishes for the good genes to be passed on if the puppy will show good hunting and sporting abilities. But I guess it differs from breeder to breeder and country to country. Vizsla breeders here in Sweden are extremely selective of who they sell puppies to as most are bread specifically for hunting. Thanks for this video! It's nice to know what to expect and feel aa bit more prepared ☺

I believe it has to do with competition, they are the best breeders in the area. They were also super selective! That makes sense though if they are being bread for hunting. I didn’t know you were from Sweden 🇸🇪 👋🏼hello from Canada 🇨🇦 !!

Yeah i think it differers breeder to breeder. Most breaders in the US have it in their contract that the pups are to be spayed. Thats because they don’t want puppies everywhere that people can’t take care of

That’s weird to me because I believed they can put endorsements on a dog i.e. if you breed her you can’t register her. But no one can stop you breeding a dog you own you just won’t be able to register her

A breeder can stop you in Florida for getting your dog fixed. They make you sign a contract agreeing to that and they want the vets name phone number and before you can get the dog they want you to have an appointment ready. After the process is done then you send the proof and if you don't go through with it they can take all rights back of the dog and sue you. My sister-in-law and her husband had to do this with their dog. I never new the extent of the whole situation until she told me about it. I just heard bits and pieces about it before hand but now, when i've seen it in black and white, it's true.

We have brother and sister puppies. I was planning on having the sister spayed before her first heat, but she has a hooded vulva. So our vet recommends letting her go through heat once. Even if we nueter brother, it will be a challenge 🫠

I want to get a vizsla, but I'm not sure about leaving it home. I have school for 6-7 hours a day. I've heard that, with the right training, a vizsla can be home alone for long periods of time, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

It took us a while to work Willa up to 6 hours alone. We typically only do 4 hours tho and sometimes she still acts out like eating cords or anything left on the ground. You have to be careful with that stuff. Even with good training it still happens! I’d try to hire a dog walker to come during the day if possible or you can block off some of your house with a gate. But it’s definitely possible!!

My dog is in heat, is it still okay to take her on walks? There is another dog, male, who loves seeing her on walks. Is it okay to be around him while she is in heat?

Well, if I had a dog again as a puppy and it went into its first heat, I would have waited for it to become more mature to an adult than when it is. I would not spay it because I prefer my dogs fully intact. Neutering is cruel. My poor dog as a young dog had been neutered without antistatic, so he was awake and could feel all of the horrible pain of being cut open . His mating organs were removed out of his body, and there was a lot of blood. Oh, so much blood pouring out of him it was just horrible. I remember screaming, "Stop it, you're hurting him!" At the veterinarian ladies, but all I got from my parents was a quiet or be quiet or a shut up followed by a harsh, painful slap by my mother as a kid.

What another gal on a channel did was also put a maxi pad onto those puppy to woman heat 'periods'. Apparently a dog can get pregnant right after the bleeding. So keep that diaper and pad on for that extra week.

We tried the maxi pad and it did not go well 🫠 Willa ate it …. I do not recommend using a pad!
