Had my own server for years now, back when 3D TVs were really popular. Great Video!

Love my plex server - did a video on it as well... it gets addictive though at what hardware and all and the libraries get large!!! I even have an HDHomerun Prime (cable tv) and HDHomerun Quattro quad OTA tuner that tie into plex and can watch tv outside of my house or region. Testing DVR now.

I use the HD Homerun and DVR works great, I love that it cuts out the commercial for me. Thanks for the comment!

Really good explanation, thank you. I might try to make my own server with an old laptop

If you do use a laptop it would be best if it had a USB-C port for the fastest transfer rate with an external drive. Unless your laptop has a lot of extra storage. Thanks for watching!

I seen people talk about plex.. But my big question is how do people get media into the server. Not sure how to get the show or media. Just started your video and hope it talk about this ..

You are getting so close, after these videos the one you need to watch is this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orikgrF63rPIZqc.html Plex Configuration Tips and Tricks to Manage Your Media Server. This should answer most of your questions.

You pirate it. Use a VPN and go on yts or magnetdl and just search up whatever movie or show you want. Throw the files into a folder and point Plex to it. Plex takes care of the rest.

From what I've seen, people either download their shows/movies or convert them from old DVDs. Either ur own DVD collection or go to thrift stores, garage sales, ur local library, etc to get them

Make MKV. It’s a free software with a great forum. This is for ripping your own DVDs. You’ll have to buy some hardware for Blu-ray/4K content. The forum does well at guiding you.

How what components are the most important to get the max number of streams possible? Any recommended older model pc to use or any components to buy.
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 3 ай бұрын
You know, I could not tell you how to get the max but sharing in house you can use about anything but outside is going to require a fast upstream internet connection, I have 20mbps upstream with 2 or 3 family members watching at times no problem. Thanks for watching!

It does compress the movie quality right? I have the latest sony QD Oled and I enjoy uncompressed movies but currently I directly connect the SSD to the tv. Will this solution compress the video or quality etc ?

I don't think so, but google the question, Reddit will definitely have an answer for you, as far as I know, people even run remux and Blu rays movies on Plex without compression, but yeah Reddit will have the right answer for you if it turns out I am wrong

how to watch the videos remotely ? My ISP doesn't support port forwarding.

Plex takes care of that, you see your local Plex server connects to the Plex internet services and keeps you connected. Be sure to watch my other Plex videos to learn more. Thanks for watching!

Maybe overheating?
@GTKTheater

That is a loaded question, it would be overheating, it could be a Bios setting overriding your operating system, that would be my guess. ;-)

Hey, I live in a dormitory and my internet is provided, without access to a router, by boingo. They restrict the amount of devices I can have the network. Do you know if that would present a problem for remote casting?
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater Ай бұрын
It shouldn't be a problem, they are counting the number of devices not connections to your system. In my humble opinion. Thanks for the question!
@RyudoMorisato
@RyudoMorisato 4 күн бұрын
The people are access Plex, not your dorms router. If the people accessing your Plex are dorm mates, they are already attached to the router, and it’s not relevant. Then they are connecting to your server via Plex. On everyone’s end but yours, it’s no different for them than going to Netflix… you’re just controlling the content

Do you need to get the movies or shows into the folders in the first place ? If so, how so ?
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 5 ай бұрын
Yes, you first copy your movies to the folders on your system and then install PLEX. In the setup you point the directories to your drives or folders and it will search for all media on the drive or folder and add them to your PLEX menu.

I’m running a similiar PC for my Plex server for a few years now. But not using Windows… You dont need to install the server like this, i’ve installed TrueNas Scale (free NAS OS) on my PC as a hypervisor and running Plex as an app. Plex has an offical, up-to-date app for TrueNas and that way i have both a NAS and Plex running :-) much more power efficient then running Windows 24/7…most of the time on idle TrueNas runs with 0-2% CPU usage :-)

This is a good idea, usually there is a trade off, in this case a learning curve for most people. A simple install on windows is quick and easy but more power to ya. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
