Welcome my guide to the Westside of Santa Cruz. I moved to the Westside of Santa Cruz in 1999 to attend college at the University of California Santa Cruz. It had been a longtime dream to live in Santa Cruz. In fact, when I was on a family vacation when I was only eight years old, I decided Santa Cruz is where I want to live when I grew up, and I made that dream a reality. Many years later, here I am, living my dream in Santa Cruz, specifically on the Westside of Santa Cruz.
The city of Santa Cruz is comprised of what is known as the Lower Westside of Santa Cruz, the Upper Westside of Santa Cruz, the Beach Flats community, which is near the Santa Cruz Wharf, and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Beach Hill, downtown Santa Cruz, the DeLaveaga area, which is also near what is known as the Santa Cruz banana belt, and the Seabright area, which is near the Santa Cruz Harbor and many, a plethora of Santa Cruz beaches. This area is within the city of Santa Cruz's jurisdiction and has so much to offer. We are on the Santa Cruz Wharf right here on the Westside of Santa Cruz, and right behind me is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which is one of the oldest and voted one of the best or the best seaside amusement parks. It was established in 1907 right here in Santa Cruz, California, and it is a wide resource for fun for the whole family. There are rides, there is a ice-skating rink that they put up in the wintertime, and in the summertime, they have free concerts on Fridays and they have free movies on Wednesdays. If you want any information on what the free concerts or movies will be, let me know, I'll send you a list of that information. Also, right behind me, this is considered Main Beach right here in Santa Cruz on the Westside of Santa Cruz in California. Every year, we have, every summer, there's the Santa Cruz Junior Guards where they actually make the kids run and swim, and my kid always complains, but she loves it. Super fun. The Dream Inn, which is one of my favorite hotels. I sometimes do staycations at the Dream Inn. All of the rooms have ocean views. they look over Cowell's Beach, they look over the break. There's a swimming pool that overlooks the ocean and the beach as well.
The Upper Westside of Santa Cruz as well as the Lower Westside of Santa Cruz are both great places within the city of Santa Cruz to live and become part of the Santa Cruz community. Santa Cruz's Westside is a bustling commercial district filled with local Santa Cruz restaurants, local Santa Cruz shops, and assortment of local Santa Cruz businesses. Mission Street right here on the Westside of Santa Cruz, which runs through the district, connects motorists to Highway 1. Densely populated traffic can be an issue during commuting hours. Remember that when you are shopping for a home, especially if you have to commute over the hill to Silicon Valley. Notable sections of the Westside of Santa Cruz neighborhood include the mixed-use Swift Street development with craft breweries, restaurants, wineries, shops, and so much more. Points of interest on the Westside of Santa Cruz include Natural Bridges State Park, Derby Park, Seymour Marine Discovery Center, and Lighthouse Field State Park, West Cliff Drive, Wilder Ranch State Park, University California Santa Cruz, Pogonip, Rincon trail, and the Santa Cruz Wharf. For all you Peter Pans of the world and the real, true children, the Westside has plenty to do and play. The Westside of Santa Cruz may be known as a sleepy surf town, but it's also a haven for passionate doers and dreamers.
Meet some of the hard-working, passionate innovators who have led to the Westside to become a tight-knit but welcoming community dedicated to creativity and collaboration. We welcome you with open arms and a loving heart to the Westside of Santa Cruz. Come enjoy what we love so much.

I grew up in Santa Cruz in the 60s. Great memories! I specifically grew up in the Pasatiempo area. The golf course was my playground where the ravines are. We would catch salamanders, frogs big and small, and collect golf balls and sell them on the 13th hole. Used the golf club swimming pool everyday during summer vacations. Schools, from age 5-16 that I attended were: Bay View, Scotts Valley, Vine Hill, Soquel, and Harbor High in its first year.

Good stuff! I grew up in Santa Cruz and attended De Laveaga Elementary before my family moved to Montreal, Canada in 1987. The idea of working and living there has always called out to me, and after watching your video I am more inclined:)

One of the less well known aspects of the Santa Cruz Westside is that decades ago children could hear a locomotive roll past under their city streets. Sometimes a manhole cover would be pushed up and slid aside so numerous filthy-looking men in what then was called boiler-suits would emerge into daylight. Their parents all demanded their children to avoid manholes if open or not. It once was common knowledge. As was a sea cave off West Cliff Drive. It is unique. In the back there is a doorway. For access to what the City Choo-Choo had been doing. On my last visit to that door I found it had been stolen and storm tidal surges had poured past. What swims under Westside Santa Cruz might be baited and hooked if city sportsmen utilize the street curbing gutter drains. I now reside the Salish Sea and don't need Santa Cruz Real Estate pimping what their city has to offer. Been there/ done that.

Love your video! FYI: The Natural Bridges State Beach lost its second “bridge” during the Loma Prieta Earthquake! Consider: not adding “Santa Cruz” after everything you introduce. Once we know that you’re introducing us to Santa Cruz, move on! Saying, The West Side is enough! We might say, “The Upper West Side,” but we certainly do not say “The Lower West Side.” Your footage is fantastic, your connection to the viewer is fabulous, Please make more videos! Maybe go to Swanton Berry Farm! Their berries are union grown! They have fabulous pies, jams, etc. Thanks for the tour!

I visit for public use entry to caves. By open water or otherwise. I often arrive and depart without sharing my activity with social media, California residents, or other introductions. Because I choose not to welcome their residue. My Grade-5 cartography and survey notes are not made available for public use. Ditto, pics. I rely on assistance from other organized exploration. Look for me using scheduled public transportation. I can recommend fishing amid the city west side drainage system.

I am watching your video as I miss being in and working in the area. I still own a house in the the SLV area but sadly had to move out of state. I moved the the area just before the big quake in '89 and moved on in 2017. My fun spots around SCruz is Habitat For Humanity Restore, Pizza My Heart on 41st, Mr Goodies, LuLu Carpenters, The Catalyst for live music and almost anything on Pacific Ave.

Nice video but it’s interesting that you show the town of Capitola, east of Santa Cruz, while the voiceover is extolling the virtues of west Santa Cruz. Also, Aptos is not a part of Santa Cruz.

So did I. After hire by the Santa Cruz County County Jail. The Sheriff Department wanted an expertise in maximum slams and my other work with the criminal insane. Departed when I had hire in a County Jail off the Salish Sea. As $400 would buy four 80x100 foot wooded lots off a paved street and utilities were installed. With view of an 18 mile long glacier-fed lake.
