I finally ordered the 2.0 today. Told them BMC sent me. Can't wait to get it. I never thought I'd want one of these until I got my Proxxon and expanded my cutting abilities which has made my projects go faster and with more precision. I see now that the GP 2.0 will only expand and improve my abilities and results even more.

I obviously can't recommend these jigs enough. Pro Tip, to keep the jigs from sliding around on you while cutting, lay a small piece of paper towel between the groove of the table and the tab of the jig. This provides enough resistance to keep you from having to hold on to it while cutting, freeing up your second hand.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial

Oh yea, I remember seeing you do that now. I will have to try it

So I have a useful tip for using various jigs, particularly when production lining large runs of something... So... simply disassemble, remove and recycle the original tightening/clamping mechanism for holding the rip fence in place (you don't need it anymore, man that thing was ugh). It's not too hard to drill a new slot hole to fit the mechanism to your mdf board etc. I use this in particular for actually replacing the original rip fence entirely, but could also be used on other jigs you might frequently use.

Could you use the angle cutter set at 90 degrees to do the same job AND cut angled cuts? It would mean the foam's sliding on MDF instead of metal, so a bit more friction, perhaps.

at 4:58 The problem that I have with the rip fence is when it deflects mid cut. when trying to cut bigger pieces, I have had it happen to me to the point I have started taping the fence end down at the far end so that I can guide/hold with two hands. Really looking forward to getting my Guider and Shiftboard. And yah, vertical sucks.

So I'm watching this. I feel the proxxon for a few years now. The Fatal flaw what's not being able to lock the guide in place is that you cannot use it in a hands-free situation. I actually set up a platform to support 2 by 2 foot 2 inch foam and 34 by 22 in 2in foam. Getting a very straight cut is really important. And yes when you're cutting something that big, that cusses skinny little metal bar does indeed flare out it is indeed enough pressure to make it screw up your work. See your thinking small. But I'm thinking clean edges on the tables that I send to my customers. I buy my phone foam at a hardware store like most people do. For a little while I was able to get the guys in the lumber place fuse that big upright saw table used for plywood and other things dissection out my 8 by 4 foot boards for me. Nice and clean cuts. But there's a problem. They exactly the moratorium on that absolutely no cutting a phone. They claim that it melts to the blade but I've never seen that happen and I don't think that's the problem. I think the problem is that they likely sell their sawdust to people who make particle boards pressed wood products. And if there's any Styrofoam in the mix they can't sell it. All that to say that leaves me with a 4-foot t-square a good sharp exacto knife and my proxxon to clean up shift the edges. So in a way This Magnificent attachment and Tool is worth absolutely nothing to me if I can't lock it in place and I can't depend on my hands to not be a little shaky then is a useless thing. It can't be stabilized I can't use it.

Love your videos buddy. You do need to tell people that these products do not come assembled and this is not an out of the box solution. One tool was 40+ pieces that has to be glued together perfectly if not you will not get square cuts.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
Didn’t I mention in the video that I hadnt assembled some of the tools yet? I never really thought to explicitly warn about that, maybe because before getting them myself I assumed assembly was required to make them more practical to ship. Anyway as builders and crafters it shouldnt be an issue, but on future reviews of some of the other tools I’ll make sure to note it.

Sulfuria Zumma - go to your hardware store and get some wood glue. It's basically a better version of PVA glue so you could use regular white glue but the wood glue is better. Put a small dab in the grooves and then let it is for a while and wipe away the excess before it sets.

I really admire Gerard's work. His tools are awesome. However, I use a large LEGO DUPLO cuboid wall and therefore do not really need the slider. Tool no.5 is worth looking into as it facilitates cutting angles. I also like his gothic and roman arch templates. These are difficult to build at home.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
Yea some of his tools you can make yourself (guider pro, circle cutter) but some like the multi corner cutter, angle cutter, and tool no 5 would be much harder to do yourself. If he hadn't sent me one as part of the review package I probably would have built my own circle cutter, but bought the other stuff.

Almost a year since making this video, which jigs would you say are the absolute most essential in your arsenal? I think having a jig is important, but I don't want to buy a whole set of them, most of which I might not use.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
The guider pro or guider pro 2.0 and the circle cutting jig are the two MUST haves. The rest of the jigs are nice to have on hand but not needed, and you won't get nearly as much use from them as those two. If you paint a lot of minis the cork boards are priceless, I absolutely love them and use them all the time. Also if you use dropper bottle miniature paints, the paint bottle racks are amazing and probably my favourite thing he offers.

What glue did you use to assemble your guider? (PVA, wood glue, super glue, other?)
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
Just pva. Wood glue would be good too (its just stronger pva). I would not recomend superglue, its really poor for gluing large peices of mdf together, it just soaks in and barely works. Pva glue, and some tape or clamps to hold pieces while they dry are the best way.

I bought this proxxon and it was working fine but the wire broke and now I can’t get a new piece treaded threw the gold piece. I was wondering if foam melts and it clogs the hole. Do you have this problem and is there a way to clean it out so I can thread it.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Жыл бұрын
yes, that can happen. Drop some acetone in the hole or heat it with a lighter and use. a piece of wire to unclog. Sometimes broken wire can be clogged in there underneath. Flip it upside down, might be wire poking out you can pull.
@heidim6468
@heidim6468 Жыл бұрын
Well thank for replying but acetone did not work so I had to take the whole brass piece off the back and it was hard to do because the screw close to the proxxon was hard to get off. Well low and behold there was a piece of wire broken off inside the brass piece stuck in the hole. So moral of story if acetone does not work take the brass piece off and see what is inside. Thanks for all your advice and love all the demo pieces you use here for the proxxon. Thanks…..

Well, I build almost exclusively in xps foam so the proxxon is a crucial tool for that.....it's a little like being bummed out that a woodworking channel constantly uses tablesaw and table saw accessories in their projects. I try to ensure I have projects once in a while that don't require hotwire tools, but to be honest that is extremely limiting in what can be done.

My xps is hard and brittle too idk why if anyone in australia know where to get the good stuff let me know, this yellow bunnings stuff is garbage. Definitely will want at least the square guide too.

Tell him to sell on Amazon. He ships a bunch of stock of his items to an Amazon warehouse in the U.S. and they bill him $2 for them to fulfill the order. This way everyone in the U.S. gets free 2-day shipping and he saves on shipping costs to the U.S. because he ships everything at once.

I'd love to get a Guider Pro but that shipping is a dealbreaker.

BMC my honest opinion about the guider pro and the other products: they are to expensive, as you said the guider pro is just a 90 degree mdf angle and it relies on the users pressure, i would rather spend my time and ressources on finding a tall enough aluminium bar to exchange the proxxon one
@theexchipmunk
@theexchipmunk 5 жыл бұрын
No you don't. The Proton one as a whole is really unstable. A larger bar makes it even worse.

Anyone know of an alternative to Shifting Lands? I would LOVE a guider, or literally anything they make, but I cannot begin to bring myself to shell out over $70 after shipping to Texas. Its just too much money. It pains me to admit that honestly because I can tell from all the comments just how great these are. Is there even a domestic equivalent ? If not, can anyone tell me what the material is they are made out of? Laminate? Perhaps I can jerry rig something that would work out. *edited a word

There is no commercially available alternative. The Guider Pro is not a complicated tool though. Get some hardboard or thin mdf and build your own. You could make one for under $10.

I would love to get one of these, but the cost of shipping is nearly as much as the item (€22 and the item is just under €28) and that is too much. I think I will see what I can make instead

also, this guy teaches how to make a home wire cutter. Sorry that's not in English, but you can use the CCs and try to get what he's doing by context by what you see him do. it takes a tic-tac box, 2 hashis, a 9v battery, some glue, insulating tape, screws, pins, electric wires (copper) and iron wire (string). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLOofJyj0dXYkac.html

This is a great video. I'm trying to figure out what I want to invest in, and this makes the uses extremely clear. But, I do really wish people would stop using inches to describe things. It's such a weird and niche measurement for most people.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial

Inches are the best measurement for people sized things. Metric for tiny and metric for very big….but inches for medium. Sincerely a Canadian that technically lives in a metric country. Everyone should know both systems.
