Cat is a beautiful canyon. Big water in the Spring and big sandbars in the Fall. Love this canyon (although it can get a little hot in the summer). I once rowed through an 18' standing wave at Little Niagara (the first big drop). The wave broke over the top of me and like magic, I came out the far side. Ended up rescuing three swimmers from a flipped boat behind me.

I've done Cat,, and I want to do it again. I entered from the Green,, from Green River, Utah to Page. That was the middle portion of my travel in 2016. Cat was running low,, 10,000 approx. But for a canoe,, I am not sure I want to run it at 40,000. Even at 10,000 sometimes the canoe was full submarine mode,, and at other times completely out of the water launched off of a tail wave. Great good fun. No mistake,, I do not recommend Cat in a canoe. I've got 60 years in a canoe,, and Big Drop III crushed my gunwales. Had to stop in Page to replace them.

To the kid at 5:30 that said Cat is bigger than anything in the Grand: you weren't around in 83 to experience what Crystal or Lava was like so I forgive your prejudice towards Cat.

I ran Cat in '83 at 100,000 cfs. You can't imagine the 40' standing wave in Little Niagara or the several storied Satan's Gut. I know guys who ran both that season. Cat was the one.

I'm jealous you got to see the Grand at those flows. I wasn't around but have been on the both the Grand and Cataract canyon many times at different flows and Cat is always bigger because at higher the flow is uncontrolled. In regard to my comment in this video, "It is bigger than anything you WILL see" not that we HAVE seen. The Grand Canyon will never experience high flows like Cataract Canyon does because of the Dam. This video is informative and meant as advertisement. This year Cataract canyon will definitely be much bigger than anything in the Grand with the snowpack--no argument there.
