When a young girl experiences her first period, that can be a traumatic event unless her mom has gently discussed the ongoing changes that puberty brings beforehand, in a positive and affirming manner. That was Robin Jones Gunn’s purpose for writing her book, Before Your Tween Daughter Becomes a Woman - to equip moms to have this important conversation with their daughters as early as 8 or 9 years old. Robin stresses that Mom should be the safest person in her daughter’s life - where the conversation about puberty and development can be ongoing. Jenny Coffey echoes this message, explaining that a girl’s self-image and self-esteem will be profoundly impacted by how parents navigate this child’s first exposure to sexuality. I have a daughter who doesn't want to talk about any of this. She clams up & I worry about it. I'm not pushy or embarrassing about it either. I bought the supplies & told her they are there & that I'm here for her. My older son is the total opposite, open& frank to a fault. Kids can be so different.

I have three girls and their dad decided on his own that once they became young ladies and had their first period, he would be the first male to take them on a date and each one of them really looked forward to that. They got all dressed up and he took each one to a different restaurant and it's now their special place to go.

What about purity for the boys? Purity is meant to be taught to both male and female Please do a teaching on purity for boys. Thank you
