GW2 rules. The community-based events on every map encourage but don't require collaboration. The level scaling that allows you to get rewards in low level zones that are still useful as a max level player encourages community, makes leveling new characters more fun since you're not leveling through dead zones, and it makes map completionism more fun. PvP is usually relatively well balanced and most "metas" aren't so OP that there isn't a counter to them. Events/holidays are always happening and rewards are worth it. Being able to hit the gear level cap without grinding for three months is great and the small difference between exotic gear that is not incredibly hard to get and the legendary/ascended gear that takes longer to get isn't enough to make someone with ascended gear more OP than other players. Art style is cool, story is fun, stories that kind of branch are fun. You can technically buy in-game gold with real money, but very few things on the marketplace give a notable advantage, especially in PvP, so it's not P2W. World bosses have fun mechanics and aren't just DPS sponges. I could go on all day about how awesome this game is. It's one of the best MMOs ever made.

It's ridiculous that there are people saying their opinions don't matter since they're all GW2 content creators. Muk used to be a hardcore WoW player, Laranity has been playing a ton of FFXIV lately, Teapot even says in the video he plays and enjoys all kinds of MMOs. They're all experts on what makes GW2 different and have plenty of experience elsewhere to compare it to. Really great video, they definitely hit on a lot of the things that I try to get people to understand when I recommend GW2. I appreciate that Lara briefly mentioned the phenomenal server uptime, too- GW2's megaserver system is hugely underrated. As she said, when traffic gets high they easily spin up new servers on the fly, no long queue times to play new releases. You can always play with your friends no matter what server they chose to join, as long as they're in the same region (NA or EU) with the exception of WvW, which they're working on changing. And it never goes down for maintenance- updates release to new instances and everyone gradually migrates as old instances empty and close. It warns you in game and gives you several hours to log out, install the patch, and log back in. It's extremely rare for GW2 to go down at all, the last time there was a severe outage they wrote an extensive blog post about what happened. It's already super casual friendly between the variety of things to do and lack of sub fee, but the constant availability makes it that much more convenient if you have limited time to play.

After a year of playing this flawed gem my favourite thing about it is: no rails! You just pick a direction and wander off looking for trouble. And 90% of the time you not only find it but three other players doing the same thing and you all look at your maps and see a commander tag and wonder what's going over there and suddenly there's 50+ players taking on a Meta Event. And you suddenly realise you've come home. It's been a helluva year. And no one mentioned the Festivals?

To me, the most truest, shiniest gem in the game is that good 8 year old content that is STILL relevant today in almost 2024, take the HoT story for example, its veen 8 years from it's release and just this past saturday i went for the last achievement of the expansion, the "Migraine" achievement and found a group in minutes. Crazy.

I've been playing since launch, 10 years ago, and I STILL have stuff to do every day. There are so many choices on how you can spend your time. This is the only MMO that has been able to keep my attention for so long, I eventually get bored with literally every other MMO I have played.

As someone whos been maining gw2 for a bit over a year, while bouncing between a mix of my other MMOs, one thing that i take for granted and then get shocked when moving to any other MMO is the server architecture. GW2 has 0 downtime ever, no maintenance, no patch downtime. When an expansion drops you get told to log out int he next two hours and log back in for the new version. In comparison im playing an old love right now DDO, and theres 2-4 hours of downtime every wednesday, regardless if theres a patch. Otherwise the comments are dead on, GW2 is the only MMO i know of where the open world is something more than a thing you walk through while leveling to cap.

Great creators you have on this one! I play most MMO's but the part that always brings me back to GW2 is the no subscription fee and horizontal progression. I can go away from games for months or years and come back to having the still BIS gear. It's a very 'choose your own adventure' type game and you will find many guilds to join dedicated to just one particular game mode, so there is always people to find to join content you enjoy.

GW2 is the game where you log in, look at dailys and pick the one to gather wood in a zone. You move there and see a event and think meh i do it too whilst i gather wood. Another event pops up and you go for that one as well. You see a Vista that you did not do yet and mapcompletion is a thing so you throw that in too. A call out in mapchat from a new guy who struggle with a hero challange and you think i have a few min lets help the new guy so you go there. Then someone calls Treassuremushroom is up, oh what the hell i want those invisible boots so i quickly run there to hit it and hope for luck. You see a tag pop up on the map and you realise shit meta is starting, hmmm ok lets do that, so you run for a few events to pick up participation for better loot, then on to the meta boss, kill that, pick up the loot fest and spend 10 min dealing with your loot. Now you see a call in one of your guilds that our Garrison in World v World is under attack and in great need of people or we loose it, so i jump in and defend that and kick the enemies out of our home. At this point the whole day have passes and i don't even finnished the damn gathering of woods yet =D

I'm surprised no one mentioned gw2 mounts. They are all so individual and incredible. Probably the best mounts of any game, not just versus mmos. Scaling is different too with collections you unlock all through the various content which brings you back to the original maps. Although you can speed run or level 80 unlock, in gw2, it's still advisable to play through 1-80 the first time. Great game!

I'm actually glad the mounts weren't touched on because it goes to show how good everything else is, I've seen some of ANet's advertising being based on the mounts (which is good, don't get me wrong), but I feel they are grasping at straws and maybe even a little afraid to advertise their other systems in the game.

Still glad my exotic gear is relevant. Also having fun playing through ALL the story content I have yet to touch yet. Looking forward to replaying some of them to achieve full completion so that I can get all those collectables to get ascended gear. Once I have a full set of Ascended gear, I should have casually farmed enough to finally craft my first legendary. After that I'll probably just work on collecting everything. Personally wasn't looking for something intense within the game. Just something casual that I can pick up and play at my own pace and time.

While I did eventually get burned out on GW2, I will highly recommend it to anyone to try, and I sometimes get an itch to go back. Level scaling meant zones never became out of date, both high and low level players can do things together. Very cooperative friendly. It rewards exploration, the best of any MMO I've played in this regard. It told a good story. You can customize your character's build, and there's lots of options. I usually don't care for PvP, but Word vs World was actually fun.

As a gw2 player, I think teapot is the most honest voice here when discussing some of the issues with gw2. Arenanet focus is on open world pve. If you want challenging instanced content.. look elsewhere. If you want pvp that's actively tended to by the devs... Go elsewhere, pvp hasn't seen a new map in many years, that's why the population is low as teapot alluded to. But.... If you want to play at the 5 to 10 hrs a week level, gw2 is perfect

And it's good to know that if I have to leave again, I'll just be able to come back with no issues.

The great thing about this game is that you are downscaled to the zones making you play your character correctly. One small event that you do to get some Karma and map bonuses leads into another, leads into another, leads into another. It's like scritt shinies, you see stuff pop up and you're wanting them. Equally is great is the community. Ask randomly in map chat, someone answers. People calling out bosses for others, people willing to lend you a hand in World versus World without even asking them, they just offer

So, I just wanted to say that I was looking for a new mmorpg game to play, and your video and all of these creators convinced me to try Guild Wars 2. I downloaded the free base game, and started playing it yesterday. I was hooked before I even reached level 10! I used the Destiny games and Eso. Guild Wars 2 feels like the fun I used to have on those mmorpgs before they got money hungry with the micro transactions and time limited content. It got so bad that u gave up on mmorpgs. Guild Wars 2 is my ticket back in, and I'm having a blast! I want to thank all of you for this video!

My biggest problem with gw2 is that I bought a pack with all the expansions just to discover that there's a whole story between the expansions that's NOT included in said pack. I'd have to either farm a colossal amount of gold to buy with in game currency or pay more for the crystal with IRL money OR just get from basic game to expansion 1 with some story missing in the between

Fashion Wars. Doesn't require you to buy things from gem store. You can get creative and find cool gear available through achievements, festivals and crafted. Open world game does make this game what it is for me because you are with a bunch of people but are also playing solo. Being able to complete events and metas without having to group up was amazing. 10 years ago I was used to WoW where someone could kill a mob and if you helped but weren't grouped, you didn't tag it and wouldn't get credit. It was terrible. I'm not sure I like the new direction. I do miss the living world stories. LWS 3, 4 and 5 were just amazing. All of those maps bring me back weekly. Already it is hard to find people doing Gyala Delve. Open world content has been kind of lacking in End of Dragons and SoTo. And seeing how everyone in this video says, Open World content is what makes this game different, I hope Anet is listening. SoTo rift hunting really sucks.

Getting full BiS gear in gw2 is actually a huge time sink and has taken me considerably longer than it has in any other modern mmo.. I understand you can do most content with just exotic gear, but most people will be going for full ascended with atleast one legendary wep which will keep you plenty busy
@AgentNoun
@AgentNoun 9 ай бұрын
This is definitely true, though the nice thing is that you only really need to do it once, or at least once per build. And having full ascended makes getting more ascended gear much easier--it's the kind of game where your progress can snowball and any progress you make then makes future progress easier. That's been my experience at least.
@Nemecyst_

It's a good thing that Anet addressed recently it with the Wizard's Vault though. You can get 3 piece of ascended gear within two weeks of starting GW2 by buying them in the vault with Astral Acclaim.

its really nice that a pvp person like myself can use all that pvping to gear up to still join in on pve stuff. unfortunately im getting really burnt out on pvp because of the direction the balance is heading in, its gone from super fast paced explosive combat to slow paced turtling nonsense. doesnt make my heart beat faster anymore because its so slow compared to what it used to be... the best combat in the genre and its being mutilated. thankfully as mentioned before all my pvping has let me gear up so i can do whatever pve build i want as ive got full pvp legendary armor letting me change their stats whenever.

35:18 I 100% share opinion with Mukluk. I tried Elder Scroll Online and I had some fun with it, but ultimately what drove me away was 2 things. The enemies scale with you, so while you don't feel locked out of areas to explore due to your level, gaining levels didn't feel impactful to me at all. The other and more critical thing that turned me away from ESO was server maintenance. Logging on and getting welcomed by a screen that says you can't play right now just made me quit and return to Guild Wars 2 instead, which had better combat anyway. I think a lot of Guild Wars 2 players underappreciate how well server maintenance is done by ArenaNet. The game has peak server maintenance and I've never experienced a queue for logging in.

There is no other game like GW2. It's the most innovative MMORPG. I'm one of the pioneer gamers; Been in and out since it came out. GW2 is the last MMO I plan on playing because it's the last MMO to try things differently that I've enjoyed since WoW (when I played FFXIV ti just felt like a prettier WoW with better music, graphics, and art). One thing I don't believe that was mentioned was all of the quality of life things in GW2 such as depositing materials to your bank from anywhere in the world with a click of a button or when crafting if you craft a lot of items the time to craft each item gets shorter and shorter so crafting 100 of the same thing does not take 100 times as long as crafting a single item or mounts are instant cast (and are done much better than any other MMO).
@contaim7227
@contaim7227 9 ай бұрын
They give you insane item bloat and direct you to purchase bag and bank space, it is by far convenient, actually super annoying. A craft bag should be a core game mech thats not something they deserve a pat on the back for.
@contaim7227
@contaim7227 9 ай бұрын
You would also click the craft all button, many games have the same thing, nothing different there. Its good to be fully truthful.
@Orakio
@Orakio 9 ай бұрын
@@contaim7227 I last played WoW during Cataclysm so they might have changed it since, but back then when I crafted 100 gold bars it took 100 times as long as crafting one gold bar. In GW2 that is not true since the crafting time per bar shrinks with each bar so you're waiting for a far shorter amount of time.

Sorry if I repeat anything, I would hope they bring up, but I wrote this before watching to share my option one just two of the many things great about this game. ALL MMOs should model fighting and cosmetics after GW2. After playing GW2 it has ruined me for how most MMOs that have come out are arranged. The fighting is action combat where you can tab target OR aim in the direction and if you attack with a sword, then anyone in the area of the swing will be hit. Also, if you are a caster and and you are not using a channel type spell, then you can RUN AND CAST! No more playing WoW where if you cast a fireball and you slightly move then your cast is canceled. I LOVE THE COMBAT. The game has dodge rolling so you have to have a little skill to time your roll. There is no "Roll of a dice" and you might hit someone or you might miss. You'll either hit them or they will roll out of the way. Some people in other MMOs cry about there being no "Holy Trinity", but I love the fact that if a player in your group is more tank-ish and they die, then that doesn't mean your whole group is going to wipe like in WoW. The cosmetics system is amazing for making a character different from everyone else. Almost everything cosmetic is shared across your whole account. GW2 does not have the crazy outfits like in Final Fantasy or almost all Korean MMOs, but there is a lot you can do. Any armor you loot, buy, or create you can unlock that look which goes into your wardrobe for any of the characters on your account to use if they can wear that weight of clothes. You can wear armor with stats and apply a cosmetic look over the armor to appear how you want. More MMOs have started to do this. The armor and cosmetics also have the ability to dye certain areas of the armor. You constantly come across dye in the world and when unlocked, it also goes into it's own section to be shared across your account and applied when you want. New World only lets you use ONE dye once to color a whole piece of armor. Once you use that dye, then you have to get another one to use.

combat definitely seems to be the thing that mostly everyone appreciats in gw2. they usually have differing opinions about open world, pvp, raids, ect., but the combat in general in gw2 feels sooo good. there's so many different styles and functions between the classes. and combat in any game is so important since it's what you spend most of your time with. there are other mmos that i think are so good and i like other parts of it so much, but if the combat is bad then i just can't do it.

The ONE thing the "play however you want" attitude overlooks is the the ONLY way to get Gift of Battle for legendary crafting is to play the WvW (world vs. world) game mode. Anet really needs to offer an alternative path to that item for people who simply have no interest in grinding out that reward track in WvW. I've been playing since launch and still love the game fyi.

The combat system is 100% why I will probably never quit playing this game, unless a new next-gen MMO comes out matching it or somehow exceeding its capabilities. Why I currently log in 3-5 times a week? Is to play with my dedicated WvW guild of 5+ years; shooting the shit with all of them in discord while obliterating/getting obliterated by other dedicated guild groups in WvW.
