Guild Wars 2 is a high fantasy MMORPG with large open world maps, a hybrid combat system, unique mount system and horizonal progression featuring both PVP and PVE content that was initially released back in 2012.
Recently the game has just released it’s 4th expansion Secrets of the obscure which has come only 18 months since the previous expansion End Of Dragons.
Secrets of the obscure brings with it two new aerial maps which you’ll explore on your skyscale mount which has new flight materials that you’ll unlock as you progress through the new content.
You’ll face new enemies in the form of the Kryptis which are entering Tyria through reality rifts which players will need to seek out and close for rewards.
A new reward system has been added in the form of the Wizards Vault which basically gives you currency for completing daily and weekly tasks as well as achievements.
2 new 10 player strike missions have been added, a new 5 player fractal dungeon, and probably the biggest change when it comes to classes is that elite specialization specific weapons are no longer tied to a single elite spec which means there’s much more flexibility when it comes to build creation, previously if you wanted to use a Greatsword as a Necromancer you’d need to play the Reaper elite spec but now that’s no longer the case.
In this video I revisit Guild Wars 2 for a bit to see if the new expansion is interesting enough for me to want to stick around and play more.

I'm getting to old to keep switching between MMORPGs that are generally all the same with their themepark content. For better or worse, I'll stick with WoW until Ashes of Creation and other true next gen MMORPGs release.

To address your gear inventory situation, there are equipment tabs that you can slot your gear into so you dont actually need to hold all of it in your inventory anymore. You just press a button and change the whole set. And it stays in its tab

yeah, i think Peon this time missed a lot of things that anet introduced in the last couple of years like the equipment and build tabs, and the legendary armory. I do pvx and on most of my characters i have the base equipment and build tabs that anet provided when they intoduced the sistem and it's enough to always have a build ready for pve and WvW (this isnt even a factor in sPvP imho). Only on a couple of characters that i usually main in WvW do I have 1 or 2 more equiq/build slots to cover the Blob/zerg/havoc/roaming builds i use the most. I think Peon on this one didn't do is homework properly.

@@mikekuzmicz8408 that's really the fault of a lot of MMOs, there are many systems and things in other mmos that aren't shown or explained well at all. Peon reviews mmos for a living, shouldn't be a big ask to dig into stuff beyond face value

@@mikekuzmicz8408 i mean there is literally a numbered tab bar on top of the gear screen, people could actually start to use some brainpower sometimes. The big problem with gear set tabs is the fact they are highly monetized. (Edit) Although there are ways to get them without gems with the new vault reward system.

@@2Btoobee Truth. I'm running my game over 100 fps at 1440p and the game is absolutely gorgeous. I believe it's the best on the market, and you get so many of the quality of life mmo features that arenanet pioneered for us. Always remember, as long as you're out of combat/not hit by mobs, you can instant mount in GW2. In wow you have a long cast time to wait for every time. There are lots of little things like that in GW2 that a lot of people will not notice on first glance.

LazyPeon only having 96 mastery points spent unlocked explains a lot. That's half the amount you'd have by completing the content up to and including Heart of Thorns. That's not a lot of experience, and explains him not understanding the horizontal progression (since he doesn't have much of it unlocked).

I think many players view horizontal progression as gear "quality" chase every half a year, excluding anything else a game might offer. Like in wow for example. For me personally, gw2 was always a favorite precisely because you don't chase a carrot all the time. Although some prefer the other way around.

Not to mention GW3 has never been mentioned by the studio, they dropped all side projects a few years back to only focus on GW2, are regularly updating GW2, and have already announced the next expansion. The only reason this one has a 2 in it is because the original Guild Wars wasn't even an MMO. It was an online singleplayer game with multiplayer lobbies and a party system to play the maps and missions via multiplayer. It's no different than if Elder Scrolls: Online had instead called themselves "The Elder Scrolls 2"

Well, your critique about gear is exactly what legendary armor and weapons do, they let you change the stats of your gear whenever you want on every character, and it’s a grind for you to do. You could argue it just should be free for everyone but I think it’s ok for someone to grind for it as a big goal to have in the game

I hard disagree. You know the problem is bad if the solution requires you to just live with the problem for months at least. Arenanet should improve the gearing system, if not, so many peeps would just drop the game out of annoyance before even learning about legendaries. Edit: to clarify, I have problem with the gear storage issue, not the process of getting gear itself.

@@herrscherofshrimps1451 what are you talking about? You can do literally 95% of all over content with beserker gear. Just one gear type and that's it. PvP has an own system which is very simple however. Which just leaves WvW where you could use better gear. But to start WvW, you can also just use beserker. It is a great thing that you can use so many stat combinations and if you are playing solo or with a guild there are a lot of fun builds or just little things you can improve for your own playstyle. If you just want to go and don't care about that, just use beserker

@@herrscherofshrimps1451it’s not a problem though, you gear your character once and you are done IF you want to play Alts in a convenient way and never have to deal with this ever again you can, but you don’t have to get legendary amor. How is this any worse to other mmos where you have to grind for days to get your build/alt ready? TO BE FAIR I actually do think gear in this game DOES feel meaningless, unless it’s legendary, but that’s more because the game showers you with gear all the time so you end up desensitized from it more than a problem that should be fixed by deleting getting gear Al together.

Legendary gear lets you do what your "hot take" complains about, just gotta work for it. Ascended gear has the same stats as legendary and can be traded within characters while u work on Leggies

His complaint is valid however. Gear means nothing in GW2 other than the skins. It's not the same as in other RPGs. Let the legendaries be cosmetic achievements and just get rid of gear for stats altogether. GW2 is the perfect MMO to have a system like this.

@@cristi724But at the same time it would be removing the only vertical progression the game offers (fractals is sort of similar to other MMO's in this regard, even if it's fast to gear up. But you can repeat it on alts). I think it's good that it offers some of that. Legendary gear is one of the things that keeps players invested into the game. Removing this benefit from endgame reward would not be a good decision Ithink

@cristi724 Do you even play this game? lol stats matter and gives the game build variety. Taking out stats also would destroy a lot of the game features, including material prices tanking. If he doesn't know about legendary armor, he only has surface level understanding of the game.

20:00 - For the equipment issue, look in the Equipment tab. There's small tabs at the top with the numbers 1 and 2 (and the rest are locked which you purchase via the Gem store), which are basically templates. For template 1 you could use for your PvE build, and template 2 for your WvW build. Once your gear is in an equipment tab, it disappears from your inventory - clearing up space. Literally changing your build with the click of a button. For the stats issue, that's why there's Legendary gear essentially. Legendary armor/weapons/trinkets/backpacks can be equipped on multiple templates AND multiple characters simultaneously (a medium armor set can only be equipped by characters who can wear medium armor, ofc). Legendary gear let's you swap your stats any time you'd like when you're out of combat and - for the fashion crazy people - changing the look of a legendary item doesn't cost transmutation charges. Overall, legendary gear is a huge quality of life upgrade and usually a long-term endgame goal many, many players go for. While there's a bump in numbers between Exotic and Ascended gear, Legendary gear is not better than Ascended, pushing it even more on the QoL upgrade aspect.

There are only two ways to get legendary armor: raids and competitive pvp. In the new expansion you'll be able to (soon) get it from general PvE (legendary armor has existed for 6 years now just fyi)

You're missing the point. GW2 is actually my favourite MMO, I have all classes max level, some of them have ascended gear, but I have the same issue. I log on to one of my characters, wanting to try a new build... 150g or I have to change stats on gear I already have. I don't have the time to invest on legendary armor. I don't agree with removing ALL the gear but at least make some of it come with selectible stats, even if it's just the exotics. I also have the same inventory issue, always full of collection items that could have a bank tab just like the materials tab. Also a lot of different bags and boxes that could be made simpler, they did something about it in PoF but still a mess of inventory/loot system.

For me the thing that keeps me addicted to GW2 is leveling up my account. The idea of permanently unlocking things for your account like Armor, Weapons, Skins, Mounts, and Masteries is what I really enjoy. It's kind of like how roguelikes are addicting because you go into a run and unlock something that makes your future runs smoother/different

Agreed. Although, I'd love the opposite too; being able to create a "seasonal" or "ironman" character that has no links to your "main" account and characters. There's something really satisfying about being able to switch between the long, chilled grind, and starting completely afresh with a new character and experiencing it again from the start. This type of contrast is what always keeps me coming back to games like Path of Exile.

@@jjswigger8591 bland? dodge mechanic, complex skill build and variety which that mean my ranger can be different to other's ranger, weapon swap during combat, different weapon skill in each class even it's same weapon, dynamic event on open world that randomly happen, massive meta event map in open world, massive world boss, 100 tier of fractals, raids, strikes, worldvworld that war between 3 servers, the best mount system in entire mmorpg which different mount has different skills, huge explorable map that has many players still roaming around in low lvl to complete achievment, voice acting, great story, fluid combat animation, dye system make fashion wars possible and unlimited cosplay potential. what do u mean bland? it's not just doing raid to get higher gear on every expansion, that is bland LMAO. Gw2 has more variety content that they give to their players, more than any other mmorpg

You can hear it in his voice, I remember how his first Warhammer Online video did so well that it populated those servers at full capacity for months! Then he went back with the laziest video and just focused on a low area pve zone.. And the video made the game look like shit, it didn't bring any new players to the servers at all.

you're missing the point. gear hasn't mattered in gw2 for its entire life span, the only way it matters is that you're making sure the stats on your gear line up with your build (power, conditional, etc), but every time an expansion releases the gear stats/item levels dont change, so there is no reason to tie stats to gear.

One reason I play WvW because I really dislike how limiting the stat selection in sPvP is, and also how it disables all the additional options in the rest of the game (which I saw Peon hasn't even unlocked any of)

A big part of your issue with the game stems from impatience. Like many other players, you want to "jump in, be high level, get to the good part", and end up skipping everything that makes the endgame good in the first place. Googling a build can help get players into a semi-effective state quickly and then learn at their own pace, but jumping to one that has 'Hard', 'Designed for Raids and Fractals', and 'A complex and fast-paced build' in it's description and then complaining when you get pancaked is pretty low-brow content, dude. And not reading any of the mail you're sent that explicitly tells you that relics are introduced, here's three for free, is part of the reason why you're swimming in inventory: you get stuff, and then you ignore it. I can't tell if you were just in the wrong headspace to make this review, but it seems like you just don't have the patience for MMO-level complexity at the moment. Also, cannot bear the irony of wanting a game with "more power-based progression", then just buying your way into whatever gear the internet tells you to buy and complaining how expensive it is to have skipped the grind.

The thing you said about gear at the end. It's already in the game. You just need to unlock/craft it. legendary armor. you can equip the same legendary armor piece/weapon on how many characters you want. And with legendary armor/weapons you can switch stats as you wish, you can also unlock a legendary version of the runse/ sigils and use them in the same way.

@@paulscarfo9869 If you are going for the raid legendary armor set, then yes. however, there are two other legendary armor sets, one require PvP pieces and another require WvW pieces. also, they are going to introduce a fourth legendary armor set that uses open world resources.

@@paulscarfo9869 There are 3 (soon to be 4) ways to acquire Legendary Armor: HoT PvE (consisting of Raids and OW Meta/currency grind), sPvP, WvW, and coming soon via the current Expansion, an Open World grind set which isn't entirely known yet, but requiring a lot of the "new" Rift mechanic, which is basically Bounty Farming, as well as Soto Metas.

its at MAX 20-30g and you can 1) give gear between charecters 2) get multiple sets with equipement tabs 3) there are MANY EASY WAYS to get free exotic gear like verdant brink metas

1) you can only share ascended /legendary gear between characters. Exotic not so much 2) the BIS runes and sigils for condi, healer and power and now relics are expensive. they alone would be worth 40G 3) You also need to level ascended crafting to change stats..... 4) you only get 2 free weapon sets @@programmingwithchatti4063

I started an alt account to try different builds of the same classes, I think I have one toon almost levelled as an artificer and a jewelrycrafter. All other stuff I get, I salvage/decon and sell the mats. I'm Just going to buy some legendaries with the selling of the mats because it doesn't cost much more to buy it than to craft one if you include all of the materials you use to make it, the materials you used to level the skill line and the time you spend.

Ascended gear is so easy to get I'm like 50 days into playing for the first time and have half Ascended gear and 100 AR for fractals. I dont understand how anyone could have a gearing issue. He plays all power DPS toons. He could have one set of gear of all his PvP toons.

I'm having an absolute blast with SotO I'm an ex-wow payer and started playing GW2 last year in august when it released on Steam, and was doing all expansions and living world seasons in order. I finished a week after SoTo launched, just in time to jump in while it's still fresh :D Guild Wars 2 ❣

Enjoy your vids man, but I gotta say- Dropping gear from the game would remove a majority of the fun and excitement from getting a new item, plus a majority of the trading post is people trading gear or crafting components for gear. It would make absolutely no sense to remove gear from the game, especially with equipment tabs already being a thing. I'd also rather have this system over rng enhancement systems rampant in other mmos. But that could just be me.

@Jalae actually I have seen a few games that have that option. Mario Kart is fun. If you play it more, you get better at it. Yet not once did I ever feel like it was turning on the computer to work. I would bet there are more than a couple of people who felt the Skyscale quest was work. Probably, some of those didn't consider the quest fun. Some people consider work fun. If you're idea of spending days grinding out a quest to receive a digital trinket "fun" there are many like you. However, I'm not one of them. Hogwarts is a fun game. I didn't feel like it was work going through some of the quest. Then again, those quests don't take 6 months of daily play.

For me personally GW2 is the best mmo on the market right now. Im not a meta gamer and I love colllecting stuff, farming achievements, transmog and that kind of content and GW2 hits every spot in those regards for me. Fantastic game

I didn't play BDO enough to talk about it, but ppl say it's grindy but I guess it's up to debate if it's worth it or not.

Most of the novelties have been available since launch. The menu came in a few years back. The chairs are a few years old - you can get some ingame through rewards too as well as spending gold on the tradepost. Not just the gemstore

In regards to eliminating gear and having to get different stats, I think the new opportunity for legendary gear from open world is intended to address that; as well as providing a 'grind' for those that like to do that. The legendary armory means you can use a set of legendary gear on every character, and be able to change stats freely and with no cost.

I don't think it's fair to casually mention legendaries as the solution considering THE HUGGEEEE barrier to make even one set is -insanely- difficult. The gear is a problem. Even as a day one vet with more than one legendary it's so annoying and whenever I want to start a new build I want to quit. Sometimes it doesn't feel worth it. Not to mention the daily ascended trinket grind I'm not saying it should be easy or without grind but I really agree that gear needs to be cleaned up or looked at. Because I've had my whole friend group give it a try and once they get to gearing themselves out they hate how much time they spend on a wiki.

@@AsheNoodles Getting a full ascended set for a casual player shouldn't take more than 10 days.... CASUAL not hardcore / veteran. I know because I am casual. Also you don't need legendary gear. You now have "gear tabs" to have multiple sets of gear equipped and swap between them. They don't clog your inventory. They have been a thing for a while now. Last but not least, The legendary gear SHOULD be mentioned. It's not mentioned casually, it's mentioned for a reason. It does bring a lot of power and convenience... And no it should not come easy. And it is not mandatory either given there are ways to work without it (as I mentioned above). Some people you can not please... They are complaining "There is nothing else to look forward to / grind for once you get your full ascended set" and then they complain "My one and only ascended set is not enough" or "Getting legendaries is too hard". Make up your minds... Do you want something to grind past Ascended? Or do you want to complain ascended means you have no more things to get? You can't complain about two things contradicting one another at the same time.

By crafting all 3 sets of legendary armor, you will spend more time and gold on armor than you would've ever spent on buying new stat combinations for new builds and alts. You can do it for the legendary skins, the QoL it comes with but lets not pretend that this is somehow a cheaper alternative, let alone lowering some kind of barrier of entry for new builds/players.

@@MyN0N4M3 Yes!! going from full ascended to legendary is like the Great Filter Theory XD, is like going from 100 to 10.000.000 . The amount of gold is just insane, you need like 30-50 gold for pieces for ascended or the wizards bault wich is super convenient for your 1st ascended set, but legendary is like 1.500 gold raw gold with a lot a looot more of materials, even with the new legendary set.

I get it's hard from a new player perspective since there are so many activities, but I don't think gearing up is that bad. You basically just play the game. Do some pvp or wvw and use the hero tracks and you'll get chests eventually with stat selectable armors and weapons. There are plenty of map metas that do this as well. You build them up in no time.

Hot take was indeed very hot. The idea already exists in the game and is the main source of progression for most PvE players, that is Legendaries. These are stat selectable pieces of equipment usuable across most of your alts. I agree this isnt new player friendly but the game is casual enough as is honestly and you've got to have something to work / grind towards. Otherwise great review.

Your Hot take IS answered to some degree. You just need to grind the game for legendary gear. It's account wide then, free to transmog and to equip with all stats in the game. That's where the progression is at in gw2. Legendaries.

Or just get multiple ascended sets... You can get to full ascended in about a week... We've had gear tabs for a while now. It allows us to equip the gear in those tabs so it doesn't clog the inventory... and then swap between them on the fly.

There are a LOT of things you said you disliked that have comically easy solutions such as relics (you get 3x free per lategame character) and gear (legendary gear exists). I think you’re right that you’re not able to figure out how to play this game because you’re accustomed to other MMOs. You’re missing basically every element that makes this game awesome and just playing pvp. I get it. That was me for the first six years of this game’s life, but then I actually embraced the farming and crafting, the build craft that requires effort, the collections and achievements. There is a lot, but you make a valid point that it’s not immediately obvious to traditional MMO players, and so it gets missed.

legendary equipment has stat changes, so you don't have to buy new armour end game. and they added build library and tabs so you can save you equip and skill setups. the armour is also usable by all classes in that type (light,medium,heavy) once unlocked via the legendary wardrope. i think there's a guy in lions arch who tells you all this when you hit 80. you may have skipped the message

To address your map completion problem. I know its something that you don't wanna care about (and don't need to). But the map completion is somewhat needed for every new character bcs after you do 100% of the core game map, you get the part that is needed for the S1 legendary. I know its possible to make the recipe different. But its like forcing changes on an annoying wow classic quest. Its possible, but it ruins the intended wibe.

@@shadowpaladin8412 unsurprisingly thats the system implemented into the last two expacs, gen3 legendary weapons and upcoming legendary open world armor both need map completion of the expac zones but you can re-do them on the same character by interacting with some nodes placed around the map.

Thanks for the video. One of the reasons map completion isn't shared is due to a reward at 100% completion that's required to craft the gen 1 legendary weapons. If it were account wide you couldn't craft more than one.

I mean you actually could but it would be tied to something else other than exploration. e.g. collecting lanterns like you do after completing EOD maps..so you could get the gift of exploration for finding them over and over again, but I guess it's something they don't wanna invest more time in.

you remove gear from the game by making legendaries so you never have to worry about changing gear since you can just change stats anytime, anywhere. Legendaries are the endgame in gw2 carrying massive questlines through achievement panel.

It would be nice to mention that map completion is definitely easier to do now than ever before, especially with mounts. I’ve had to do it multiple times to get to my 12th legendary which is why it can’t be account bound completion. But I can see how a player who is not interested in legendaries can see it as a chore. But you can actually just get all the waypoint unlocked from the gem store if you’re looking for a quicker option

Your build is a glass cannon, berserker stat gear doesnt increase your survivability it only increases damage output. Probably why you struggled on the boss.

Ascended gear is a BIG advantage. Gear is very important and impactful in Guild Wars 2 just not in the ways you may imagine. WvW is endgame for PvE players. The whole incentive within most content is crafting Legendary Gear with the convenience of being able to stat select on demand like you were talking about. That is the nature of vertical prog in GW2. Removing gear would completely negate the value in doing any of the content in the game and ultimately kill the game.

Just saying. The game nows has equipment slots/tabs that you can get in the wizard's vault or in the gem store. When using these tabs you can have one complete equipment set per tab. All itens used in the tab will count as equpped itens and will not take any inventory space. Also if you do have legendaries, you can have the same legendary in different tabs with dfiferent stats/runes or sigil/etc.

I think alot of legendary weapon rewards and such are tied to map/world completions. So I'm guessing that is the reason they are not shared. I'm sure they could come up with a new system for the legendaries but I just think that is the main reason they haven't done that yet.

As someone that just started playing the game again 2 weeks ago after a long break(wasn't even mastery rank 20), I can agree with some elements. I'm loving it, but I do have a lot of the same issues. Also, your gear sets can be saved in the equipment templates and you can get 2 of them from the AA rewards in the wizard vault. My biggest issue is getting to the point where I feel I can really branch out and enjoy alts, even though the game is alt friendly, you just have to get to a certain point in the game to make it alt friendly with a large amount of grinding done. A lot of the things that can make it feel better would require a fair bit of gems and gold, so it's really good to get your main done and that established, unlock some equipment templates, some build templates, bag slots, and that is a hefty price if you want to get a fair amount of it. So currently, I'm bouncing around classes, trying them all out while feeling rather restricted and limited in a lot of ways with REALLY annoying inventory management, where I am sitting there clearing out the LOADS of materials and pieces of gear I'm CONSTANTLY breaking down huge stacks of with so many other items, trophies, and what not filling up my inventory on every character I have. What I ended up doing was using some characters that I don't care to play and taking everything from the bank and filling up their inventory. I don't know if it feels worse in this game because I have limited inventory or just because it throws it at me much more frequently, since I feel like I'm clearing out my inventory more frequently than doing a lot of other things in the game. Currently really enjoying Necro, guardian, Revenant, and mesmer. Thinking of making Revenant or Guardian my "mains" for now simply because of how many options you get and variety and then branching out from that with maybe necro as a focused secondary. I don't mind for the legendary grind since you can use it on any class and change all of it around, so it's sort of a reward for grinding so much in the game for it. plus they have some of the coolest, and best looking armor and weapons in a MMO that I've seen so having it be a grind, one of the few things you can do in an MMO that's horizontal, is good to me. Also, I personally prefer how the female characters look in this game more than other MMOs lol. I will agree that the map completion not being account wide, to some degree, even if just teleports, is one reason why I'm wanting to decide on a main over just embracing the "alt" life since it's a lot of story and things to unlock on EVERY character, it's not fun to me.

What I can recommend is asking someone to sit with you and look through inventory. New players tend to struggle with understanding which objects can be safely discarded/sold, so having someone do some digging with you can lift up most of the shit that is getting in your eq.

I don't think GW2 is particularly difficult to get into, unless you have some long-standing habits from playing other MMOs. I also believe it's one of the easiest ones to recommend to people who haven't played Any MMOs before. Thanks for a great review, as always. ANet have promised more content for this expansion in the future, so I think I'm going to wait until this expansion is content-complete before buying.

Hot take felt very out of touch ngl. There's a somewhat vertical progression of legendary crafting and all the problems you had mentioned in the "hot take" would be solved immediately. As someone with a couple legendary crafted weapons / armor, I can say that there's is most definitely a feeling of rejoice and satisfaction once I've finally finished crafting such a grind of an item. As you said, being able to just stat swap whatever gear I have is indeed amazing, and legendaries no longer take up inventory space thanks to the legendary armory!

I play GW2 since it's launch from time to time and I did not care about gear or builds even once. I enjoy playing what I like to play and it's working out fine. No ever complained about my damage or gear score as in other MMOs. I think GW2 is just fine if you enjoy a relaxed MMO where you don't need to find a group to do activities. Just do whatever you want and have fun.

And tbh when i have nothing to do i go back to mapcomplete to get keys and such or just leveling a character by doing so. Also the two last expacs they given us the waypoints that is needed for to start the story so it does not hinder you really.

You didnt have to buy the relics, you got 3 chests with relics you can pick and choose from. They are ridiculous high prices atm since you get 3 basic ones for free on each character. And you cant sell the expansion ones which are better (you didnt mention it was a new feature). You can get sets of gear without paying gold, its all in the grind/playing. I dunno, a lot of the gripe you have is what makes guild wars well guild wars. I find WoW is way harder to get into as a new player and I tried multiple times for several years. its just not enjoyable and no reason to experience old content. GW2 has all the content relevant. And I would argue that GW2 has more than a decent business model compared to other games where you pay for the game, pay sub and pay to win elements with buying gold for gear. I can justify my purchase of heart of thorns still, but what moneys worth are people getting from the WoW expansions. Arguably you get them for free now but that content is no longer worth anything unless you like experience such things alone for lore. WoW skipped the WoW2 by releasing the same game AGAIN and people gladly pay money for it again that they already payed for before, the MMO version of skyrim re-releases. My fiance is the same with inventory but you just gotta let go of hoarding. Salavage, sell or destroy. Most things you can get a copy of even if its used for a quest and if its a collection once its registered in achievements toss all the extras. I think I have gone off topic now though and probably being to biased. But yeah, I have seen you get into grinding for stuff, get into grinding the legendaries in GW2 and when you done you can create any and all builds and stats combos you want. But you are right though, loot drops are just salvage for mats or if I get something exotic its to check the skin :D

PvP Queue times are not a problem, you can queue up while exploring the open world.

As a long term player I can say that your hot take is valid but it already somewhat exists in the very late game. Legendary armor let's you freely select stats and transmog however you like and is also account wide once you have it. What you're asking is basically to make part of legendary gear baseline for every player from the start so I doubt it will ever happen because it would devalue legendaries too much. Oh and I'm enjoying the newest expansion very much!

I have been playing gw2 since release, have nearly 14.000 hours in the game and still having a great time. The best advice i can give a new player is to join a good guild with helping, experienced players. Since gw2 was released 11 years ago the amount of content and information might be overwhelming. Just having good advice will help you a lot (like where to start, how to get gear etc.). So you don't have to waste your time and break your head for hours, thinking about stuff or even making bad decisions. So that you can spend the most time doing the stuff you like. It will still take a lot of time to develop your skill and understanding of the game.

take in mind they are now mini expansions. 1 each year so its shorter. it took me just 6 hours to finish on the day launch. and im not a fan of the wizards tower. your forced now to do stuff and cannot choose.

I think that the new expansion is really good and Im enjoying it a lot more than End of Dragons. The reward restructuring does a lot to push players towards various content around the game that hasn’t seen much activity in a while, like an old meta as a weekly encouraging players to return to it and giving newer players a chance to experience it or rift hunting bringing hundreds of players back to an older map. Plus, the rewards on the wizards vault are pretty good and genuinely worth going for. The SoTO gameplay is also super fun and with the freedom to focus on something other than dragons, I think their storytelling has improved significantly. It’s true that there aren’t many new features, but I think the expac provides some foundational framework changes (mostly around directing players to content) that will serve the game very well going forward.

On paper it doesn't look like a lot of changes but I feel the wizards vault is an excellent overarching change to everything in the game not just for the current expansion. weapon master has brought more to the professions imo than just adding a new elite spec. Plus they are adding new weapons to professions in a future update so that will be huge

For some reason this feels like a review of a person who, going into the game, already decided they didnt like it and hence didnt even try to showcase any of the features ment to solve the problems discussed. E.g. complaining about a full inventory while having a ton of consumables sitting in your inventory or complaining about the amount of different gear while not using gear templates.

I think this video reveals Anets biggest issue: The education of players. I'm not a fanboy. I have tons of gripes about things here and there. The suggestions Peon made would destroy the core player base. No one crafts legendaries for skins. They craft legendaries because it provides gear that can be used on every toon simultaneously with hot swapstat selection. Legendaries are literally the answer to Peons greatest criticism.

that and he doesnt know where to gear. You can gear anywhere in this game, may it be pve content, pvp or wvw, you just need to know where to get what, and that's not something the game itself tells you. for example, many people dont realise for a LONG time that competitive mode in pvp actually gives you an additional reward structure with pips. many never notice that or they do and wonder what those currencies even do.

You make a good point in your hot take, however. Getting new gear for a new build means doing content, playing the game more. And you can get that gear in various different ways. For most players that are really into the game it just adds another reason to play. And getting that gear doesn't even feel like a grind because you can pretty much get it into the type of content you want. I have been playing since launch. With some breaks in between ofcourse. All i can say is. If you really give GW2 a chance, there is a high chance you will like it.

Honestly, the vertical progression is Legendary gear.. Only then will there be "too much horizontal" progression. Legendary allows you to swap gears around. But I do wish there was more "Carrot on a stick" stuff

You can ignore gear if you get legendary items. Getting a full set of legendary items is the true endgame.

Guild Wars are really great games, used to have so much fun playing Guild Wars 1, and GW2 was really cool when that came too, spent a lot of time playing it, and played some on the first expansion too. I kind of want to get back into the game again now though and see if i can enjoy it just as much, but I am currently so far behind now on everything there, and now there are several expansions out as well so I guess it becomes quite expensive to try and get back into i? and perhaps quite overwhelming with new things if getting them all and logging in? Guardian was my class, as paladin type of classes have always been my favorite. What would be the best suggestion for getting back into the game again? Try and pick it up again from where I left it on my old guardian? or start a new character?

Hey if you are interested in getting back into the game, don't look at LazyPeon's videos the dude hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Preachlfw did a whole, proper playthrough of guild wars 2 if you are curious to follow along with him while you get into it. In addition youtubers like MightyTeapot and MuklukKZfaq have some very nice guides for new players. I think starting a new character could be a great way to get back into the game without all the messiness of remembering what your old guardian has. Hope you'll enjoy it!

I bought the first two expansions, discovered that does not include the "patches" betweens expansions, had to buy it separately. Haven't discovered how to buy it, only found it in packs that already include the expansions gave up

Would LOVE to sit with you one day and play to catch you up on a ton of the systems! The novelty stuff has been in for a long time. Also gear wise you have tabs now to load up different gear sets too which is epic! PvP is unfortunately pretty dead and has been for a fair while, whilst WvW is still fairly alive and kicking. As someone who is nearly done farming all the legendary armor weapons runes and sigils I would be upset if they removed gear completely. I'd have wasted hundreds of hours so that new players can pick and choose stats like I do. There would have to be some massive reward for the time I put into farming all that gear that you would now get for nothing.

I just loved doing fractals and some larger events when I played this game. The event where there were three lines that lead to a dragon, I didn't really need anything by doing it. I got some map resources that are nice for collection stuff but in general I just did stuff because it was fun! Not because I "had too" which is quite remarkable all on its own in todays age.

14:00 lets take the class with the lowest health & armor, give it the max dps/min def upgrades, and put it in meele. And with an unfamiliar build. Nice!^^ You are right, you are not equiped to take on bosses solo. But you should be fine on most other solo content. I'm glad they made the story boss cheeseable. There is still the optional groupe fight against her, where you cant respawn and have to fight in a coordinated groupe. it's quite fun.
