Okay, he has a lot going for him clearly, but he has been promoted to Etoile way too soon. A couple more years at PD level building up his rep, tidying his technique & getting his long legs under his control and curtail his habit to be too cutesy would have done the world of good.

I don't share your opinion. He was dancing like a star long before his promotion so if anything the promotion came too late. If it was up to me I would have promoted him after the "Swan Lake". It is true of course that the longer the limbs the more difficult it is to control them. Yet, he controls his better than other dancers, with shorter limbs, which only shows his superiority. I saw this particular show 4 times (with 3 different casts) and he did the best of all 3 male dancers dancing the main part, by far. Why would you like to "curtail his habit to be too cutesy"? That's his big advantage over other dancers too. All those characters (Siegfried, Romeo) they were (are) exactly that - young, naive, boyish, cute teenagers.

He is a talented sujet, nothing more. Under Nureyev he would have stayed at sujet level, only in the current climate of championing mediocrity has he been able to succeed.

@@KBBrown-pu3ec if he was just a sujet so would need to be most of Paris Opera Ballet's principals as he's better than majority of them. You either didn't have a chance to watch him enough to get to know his talent or you disregard talent overall and would like to promote dancers based on their age instead of artistic excellence. I've witnessed extremely talented dancers receiving their promotion way too late (like @calvinroyal111 in American Ballet Theatre) and it's something extremely sad and frustrating to see. It is damaging to the potential of a dancer as they're artistic growth gets delayed. I fully agree with what @valeriemusiques222 said above. He didn't need to be promoted in this extraordinary way (skipping the rank of first soloist), he was because Aurélie Dupont and José Martínez recognized his exceptional talent. I am very glad they did.
