In this brand new full episode of Vet on the Hill, our vets are confronted with some of the biggest lumps ever seen on the show! Buster’s owners had been to the vets previously and were guided by their advice on how to treat the growth. The story starts at the point that it was realised that Louisa may need to take further action; also, a Guinea Pig has pus behind his eye and a dog comes in with a heavy tumour hanging from the side.

To those who asked, our lovely Jasper did make it home to us and looked like he was recovering well. Sadly he passed away overnight alongside his cuddly Olaf and with my daughter at his side. We were all devastated as he'd made it through surgery for his teeth a few weeks before and had recovered so well that he was back out in the garden with his mate Nino - happily eating grass and his beloved basil. His horrible eye did come up suddenly overnight and he was rushed back to the vets where we tried gels and antibiotics for a week but in vain - until the decision was taken to give him a chance by removing his eye. Up until the end he was happy in the garden and in no pain - and we are grateful for everything Dr Michael and Lucie did to get him home to us. He was our little rescue superstar who kept my daughter going through lockdown and brought more joy than you'd ever think possible from a small guinea pig. He is still at home with us - buried in our garden alongside his basil plant.

@@pandorasmagicbox This is just how I raised my cats, I am not an expert or a vet! I have just had cats for most of my life. Please take anything written below with a grain of salt. Keeping them safe is a huge thing. I live in a city, so mine are all strictly indoor cats! They have a patio they can go out on and bask in the sun/get fresh air. Give lots of room for them to play, not only just toys, but scratching posts and cat trees! Thing vertically as well as horizontally. Personally, I free feed my dry food. I also give them wet food as a treat. Also, do not fall into the food traps! Purina One/Pro that you can buy off the shelf at any super market is better then most high end cat foods! My vet participated in a food study and it was found that Pruina One/Pro for dry and Fancy Feast for Wet was in the top 3 for best foods for cats! They checked off all the boxes, and more, that most vet produced/high end foods could not! Don't be fooled! And Don't feel guilty if you feed them cheap food. I do and had a 23 year old cat! When you figure out where and how they like their water, keep doing it. If they prefer to drink from a cup, then have a cup out. If it's a fountain, use that! All cats have weird ways they like water. I have one who will only drink from the tap. So anytime I go last the sink and she is there, I turn it on for her, let her drink then turn it off. Is it annoying, sure, but if it gets water into her, I'll take it! GET THEM FIXED! There are so many issues that come up when an animal is not fixed! Watch their teeth, if they let you, brush them! If not, take them to get cleanings. You don't have to be a clean freak, just pay attention to their mouth! Find a trusted vet. Not one who pushes every single test under the sun. One who listens, and gives you the proper advice. The last, and most important. Pay attention. If your cat is acting funny, watch them to see why. Is it just them being weird, or are they in pain? Cats will not make you aware they are in pain or are feeling sick. Watch their body language! One of the best things I can suggest is look up the pain scale for a cat. It shows you how to watch their face/ears. It has helped me so much over the years. Look at them closely, check their gums, inside their ears, between their Toe beans. Often they will show signs of illness that you cannot see because of their coloring/fur. Sadly my one older gal got a tooth abscess that we missed, and it caused her to go into kidney failure. By the time we did the surgery to take out the tooth, she was too far gone. She lived to 18.5. My one male lived to 20, we came home and he had passed. They figure it was his time or he had an issue inside we just didn't see. I did not want him cut apart to try and figure out why! Then I had one that unfortunately had medical issues that came up, no rhyme or reason and they passed. She was 8, the vet has no reason as to why her liver pooched on her and agaib, I didnt want them to cut her up looking for the answer. I also rescued an abused cat. The previous owners would "hotbox" with her in the bathroom. Which led to her having a respiratory infection, which got so bad because they left it untreated, it caused her to go deaf! Then every year when the seasons changed, she got sick. No matter what we did! She passed at 6. You can follow every gurus advice, take them to the vet once a month, do everything and they still can go young. Bottom line, just love your kitty.

I've learned so much about caring for my piggies from this amazing lady and her team, passionate about making our little furry friends lives better. She and her vet are also doing research into Calcified Bula which can cause head tilt, etc etc. I watch on KZfaq and love her Saterday live plus many videos on helping educate us in the best care for our little furry friends. 😍

I've watched quite a few of these and cannot believe how many people bring in their pets, almost in tears and saying they don't know how they could get along if their pet died. Yet in so many cases they have let a lump or an infection go on for months before helping their 'beloved' animal out of pain. I bet there are a lot of these that we don't see where there is cancer and the animal has to be put down. Gosh, how are these owners going to get along without their loving pet. God help their children.

Recently I had a 2-week-old kitten develop an abscess behind the eye. It was determined by the vet she was so far gone that surgery was something she wouldn't survive. He gave me a list of things to do to make her comfortable and keep the eye moist since I chose not to euthanize her. This kitten survived the distended eyeball infection, losing 3 dry eyeball "capsules" that covered her eye. Each time she lost a capsule the eyeball was closer to being normal sized. She has an eye that can only detect shadows and has shrunk back to normal size. This was being overseen by the veterinarian and her recovery is due entirely to his help.

Well for Chalky I don't think his owner was able to afford vet care. As for Buster, they've pinned a comment explaining this is part 2 of his care was it wasn't this bad. I suppose for Jasper, sometimes the owners don't know if surgery is a possibility. Sure he was anaesthetised for dental reasons, but this was possibly an unknown if it could help.

There's more backstory to Chalky apparently. He had taken C to the vet and was told it was nothing to worry about for a while. I'd Cs owner was misinformed (maybe they felt there was no pointnto investigate further if the owner couldn't afford it ?) It wasn't his fault.

@@Tiggalover06 2-3 days from bug bite size lump to tennis ball? I've never heard of anything remotely like that happening in humans...in fact, it seems one hears the opposite, i.e., the lump grows for years before it's even detectable by the doctors. Is it really the case that cancerous lumps grow that quickly in animals, and if so, why the difference (or do I just have it wrong, and the lumps expand that quickly in humans as well)?

You need to look at your device. I haven't experienced any audio issues. I hope it gets fixed soon. ❤ Sometimes restarting the device helps. It reboots the system so it can reload everything and it can correct things. You could also check if there's any needed updates for your system and update the system if it's needed.

Excuse me, but the eye on this guinea pig did not get so bad over night. 🤐 Why on earth did the family wait so long, before going to the vet?
@Danica.Powell
@Danica.Powell 8 ай бұрын
I thought that too but the vet seemed aware of the lump prior to that appointment so I'm thinking they may have tried antibiotics because it's a big deal to put a 5 year old guinea pig under anaesthetic to remove his eye, it's a lot for a small animal that's a little older to deal with.

@@Danica.Powellthis was my interpretation as well. It's my interpretation that the antibiotics were just slowing down the infection growth, but eventually it just outpaced the antibiotics and like a cork popping out of champagne the pressure pushes the eye out all suddenly.

i can't speak to this case specifically but when i was a kid i had a rabbit that suffered from the same problem, and she really did seem normal until her eye bulged out like that overnight. we were shocked...small animals can deteriorate dramatically in a short time

You Tube knows how to cash in on something: PAY to see it unblurred! Sneaky peoples! And thank goodness for the "mute" button for commercials! I hate commercials: i mute, actually divert my eyes from the advo because what the eyes see can really influence decisions made (studied the advertising industry in high school, they're slick too because they know it works!). I'm sure KZfaq and Google can keep track of how many times someone watches and responds to advos: they may one day make it so that you can't even mute what's on. That would be the day I quit watching.......oh well......that's the way the beast rolls.......

The way I understand it, they had been treating with antibiotics for a while (the narrator mentions that Dr Michael had been treating Jasper for a bit), but it wasn't working. I'm guessing the infection grew behind the eye and it popped out suddenly like a champagne bottle cork.

A Vet technician with fur allergies should just take allergy meds daily.
@lorienray6216
@lorienray6216 8 ай бұрын
Why is it everyone that has a cat allergy, the answer from others, no big deal, take an antihistamine. Antihistamines make you feel very tired, can cause an accident if driving, and many times never works especially if you have asthma. So its not a cure all. Give credit to the nurse that still helps allergy or not. Been very interesting show, satisfying to see lump gone and animals feeling better. Dont like seeing any animals, people suffering, just a simple hello to either makes them feel better. Great job all of you Doctors, Nurses, and all you volunteers that give their free time to help these animals. Sorry if I upset anyone, wonderful show.

Becky should be wearing a mask while in surgery with a cat to reduce her intake of cat dander that gets her allergies going and also prevent her sneezing germs all over the room where they should not be when doing surgery. Also I am shocked that the owners of the cat let that tumor grow so large before they did anything about it. This thing didn't show up overnight. Or even a week or 2 weeks. It took a long time to grow that big, was very visible, and clearly would have made toileting difficult for the cat, and probably painful. If I saw a lump like that on my pet I wouldn't wait for it to be the size of a golf ball before taking him to the vet. Other than financial reasons, what excuse could you have for not tending to this tumor immediately? Luckily the vets could handle it. But the owners of the old cat need a verbal lesson from the vet on the importance of a quick reaction to serious issues with any animal.
