It’s best you do it. They hurt themselves when they scratch. You can simply cut enough to remove the sharp curved tips. The white part only. If you see pink, that’s too close. Stay calm and keep a good grip. You’ll do just fine.

That's not a bad idea. Make sure to have some treats handy when you're cutting their nails. Even if you only get two nails clipped give out a treat and they will start associating nail clipping with treats.
