Chris, this was brilliant! I didn't expect to find this on Alamo, was simply looking for an explanation when looking at OOO and OM, and what do you know, Chris explains it using those exact 2 guitars! And then, to top it off, blew my mind, because all of these years I wondered why I liked Les Paul's more than Strats, and now it makes so much sense.

It is most important for real living human beings. Who come in DIFFERENT sizes. Are you a big boy, with big hands and fingers? It's a long scale for you then.

By the same token, if you have smaller hands/fingers, it's a shorter scale. Unfortunately, we're generally not given a choice.

Thanks a lot! Very very useful! I have a Taylor 314ce and a Charvel DK but I didn’t know guitars have different scale lengths😂😂should’ve done more research especially because I have small hands 😭

I think the 000 is a more forgiving guitar, especially for recording. But the OM gives you that full dynamic range.

I enjoyed the brighter sound from the OM28 with the longer scale length over the OOO28 with the shorter scale length. However, as I am older with aging fingers I assume the OOO28 with the shorter scale length would be more comfortable for me to play, as the narrower fret spacing would be easier for me to stretch my fingers over. Do they both have the identical nut with, and if so what is it.

We small-hand players ordinarily are not offered a choice in such critical matters as scale-length and nut-width (!).

Thank you for the video. I have a question though. My Byrdland model measures 11 3/4" to middle of twelfth fret ,yet the overall measurement from nut to bridge is 24 3/4". Intonation is perfect and guitar sounds great. I know a Byrdland scale is shorter than usual , but shouldn't my overall length be 23 1/2" ? I love the guitar and it plays great but how can it be? Thanks for your advice.

you can't measure the scale length directly on any guitar, you have to measure the nut to 12th fret distance and double it to calculate the scale length. This is because the string thickness means the saddle is very close to, but not exactly on the scale length point for any string. so for your Byrdland the scale length is 23 1/2" (=11 3/4" x2).
