Doc Watson was a legendary performer who blended his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire. His flatpicking style elevated the acoustic guitar to solo status in bluegrass and country music, and whose interpretations of traditional American music profoundly influenced genera¬tions of folk and rock guitarists.

One aspect of Doc's virtuosity that is not mentioned that often is that he hit each note clean as a whistle and clear as a bell. Marvelous tone. I can't think of any other guitarist that did it so well.

Glen Campbell was pretty articulate for as fast as he was.they all were great but there def wasn’t a lot of guys on that level,then or now

Doc Watson was a transcendent musician. His music always sounded ancient and contemporary at the time.

I was lucky enough to see him twice. Many years apart. In the early 1970’s playing with Merle in a tiny storied venue in Bryan Mawr Pa and then many years later in 2005 with my son near the end of his career. Oddly, almost the same exact thing with BB King. Both had incredible guitar skills and voices that were beyond what mere mortals could even dream of. All incredibly memorable experiences with two artists that added so much to my world and the rest of the world.

I had the good fortune to see Billy Strings in Winston Salem last night and his whole show was Doc tunes for his 100th Birthday. He picked with his band and Molly Tuttle, T Michael Coleman, Jack Lawrence, Wayne Henderson, Bryan Sutton, Wyatt Ellis and Jack Hinsel Wood for almost 4 hours. Not something I'll soon forget.

I kinda wish Doc would have used an upright bass player instead of the electric bass guitarist. It just sounds a little artificial and out of place with Docs acoustic.
