I’ve got 2 Floyd special and one original Floyd (ESP Kamikaze-1). Once you get them “balanced out” between string type (it matters) and spring tension and number of springs used. My Floyd’s work beautifully after that fine tuning which every guitar needs. Floyd type terms get a bad rap but I’m happy with them.

@@eranbraun2 no I haven't tried a hybrid kahler like the 7300 or 7200, but I think that basic physics apply just as much as it does on other floating trems, ie if you droptune or snap a string everything else goes sharp, unless you use gadgets like the tremmory and (in the kahler case) a cam stop bolt. The bolt lets you still dive the kahler, but prevents the cam to go over the balance point and knock everything out if you detune somehow.

50% true. When you have to move the saddle away from the pick ups you have to detune the string or you risk breaking it. Because even just a minute movement can make that high E turn in to high G. Or another issue is the intonation tool slipping and flying off. Its not perfect, but it helps.

If you have a double-locking floating trem that goes out of tune a lot then you have a crappy trem. Like really crappy, ALL of my locking trem guitars (even the cheap ones) stay perfectly in tune for AGES. But basically it's a zero point system like the Göldo Back Box (or the copies I make myself) that have been around for decades, or the Ibanez Zero Point system. Yeah you can't flutter which by itself makes the modification not worth it, but when you make that modification and add a d tuna as well? @@jamesmoses4066 I think it depends on how many guitars you have and in what context you use them, for me I have 8 "working" electric guitars and 4 of them have trems (3 locking). I also don't play gigs so I'm not limited to just taking 2 or so but that's just me, there are always going to be tradeoffs. I personally use trems to go up and down pretty equally and do lots various degrees of vibrato.

@smug Yep, tremol-no is way different. It does not "stabilize" like the tremmory/tremsetter/etc (which help pull the bar back to default position after diving). Tremel-no allows you to lock your trem like a hard tail or put it into a dive only so you can't pull up on the bar. I have one on a Jackson Kelly which was one of my first guitars. It was great when it was my only guitar and I wanted to change tuning for different songs to learn ****Note: when you do this to temporarily change tunings you can not unlock it and use as a floating trem with a new tuning, you'll need to tune it back to your default tuning before unlocking it if you want it to be floating again otherwise you'll have to re-setup everything (tuners/spring tension/fine tuners) for the new tuning****. For me personally Tremel-no is really just good for holding the trem in place while changing strings instead of a wedge of wood as I only use one tuning for it now since I acquired several guitars for other tuning. You could theoretically lock the tremol-no and do your bends fine and then unlock the thumbs screws when you need to use the whammy bar, but in my experience it'll go out of tune a little once you go from locked to unlocked anyway and you'll have to tune it once it's in floating mode. Just my thoughts on tremel-no since I've had one in a guitar for over 10 years. It's great if you only have one guitar which happens to have a floyd rose and want to experiment with other tunings (in locked/hardtail mode) without buying a new guitar and works well for changing strings.

Agreed! Price is absurd for a tiny piece of metal. I use floyd since the 80's and that "bend problem" never stopped me from playing, in fact I got used to it decades ago. Being able to drop tuning would be nice though, but since we don't usually do it "on stage" I'll save my money for something else. BTW, I can dive bomb, grab the bar as a drunk violent mad monkey, jump over it, piss on it, and my Floyd does not get out of tune anyway.

Back in 2000 I bought my first Strat. No FR, but still a floating tremolo which was driving me insane. I bought a what was then known as “hip shot tremsetter”, and it nailed the tremolo as if it was hard tail. I could still use it, but bending one string wouldn’t produce detuning of another. I think the Frudua method helps in maintaining tuning while allowing for full range dive bomb level usage of the whammy bar. However It does not stop your other strings from going flat in a double stop bend etc. The expected technique is to rest the side of your palm on the bridge during bends. Correct me if Im wrong. I want to use the Frudua method but this singular fact is preventing me from lifting the bridge of my guitar.

I agree that it is very, very expensive (overpriced) but most Floyd Rose bridges do cost way more than that. The cheapest Floyd Rose system costs over €300. The Ibanez floating tremolos are a bit cheaper than that, and the Schaller ones are even cheaper than that (but start at €170, so still more than the Tremmory).
