This is the greatest jazz channel on KZfaq. I’m late to jazz guitar and didn’t know Jimmy’s background. I thought I just discovered a grumpy old man with mad guitar skill and knowledge. I love everything about these videos, especially the cursing. Thank you Jimmy. I’m a fan.

I stumbled across this as a guitarist turning to jazz and hadn't heard of Mr Bruno, I watched his amazing skill with harmony and researched who he was....an incredible player. I learnt more in 20 minutes than I have in hours of other stuff. Incredible!

I just came across this channel for the first time today. Reminds me of a guitar teacher I used to work with at a music school in the NYC suburbs in the late 80's. Guy was a badass player and real straight shooter like him.

Joe Pesci is actually a really good jazz singer. He did a record with joey DeFrancesco and Pat Martino,he went under the pseudonym "Joe Doggs". I know this is not what you meant by the comparison, I just thought it was a funny coincidence. Check out the record, it's pretty good.

That was reading something recently where Jim Hall changed guitar harmonies from the George Van EPS style to a modern style, but I don't understand because I can't nail down an example that really demonstrates that from me. I'm hearing music but I'm not distinguishing old from new or perhaps my ear is a mixed bag since there is quite a bit of material to listen to and draw from. Which leads me to believe that the old axiom that "if it sounds good it is good" rings truer than grits does with groceries.

Hey about musicians listening differently, to music, than non musicians, it would be the same for how carpenters look at houses. A carpenter is going to see how a house is constructed when he looks at it. A lay person is going to look at the same house and think about whether or not it's cute. It's just the nature of attaining knowledge that having it, makes you view things differently than when you didn't have it. There are advantages to each perspective.

Im a musician, but never learned theory. I still tend to hear lyrics foremost, but also love to hear the intricate little things the producers or artist add. Things that arent necessarily front and center.

Mon Ami, his words maybe could be the thing that helps you acquire English (if you so desire). I found that to acquire my second language, I needed: musics, lyrics, maybe an extra cool girlfriend, and when interesting characters & sages have things to say that you REALLY wanna know…. this desire to understand (and be understood) makes the brain turn on: and it’s lovely. Classroom work and books are not NOTHING, but this situation-here-above: wherein you really wanna understand: this will really bring you up. If you work with a singer who is super-verbal, and you focus on your guitar, perhaps you could maybe coax your singer into translating for you ? If it were a Portuguese translation you were looking for, I would do this favor for you because I’d benefit greatly from the learning acquired through speech and meaning…

So right again. The diminished chord disappeared starting in 1980. Guess (not naming any names) modern guitar players couldn’t play them. By the way Jimmy, it’s bad everywhere, not just Philly.
