Dude what happened to the Ball of Doody channel?
@PDXguitarfreak
@PDXguitarfreak 4 жыл бұрын
Ahhh I forgot that i mentioned that channel in this video LOL. That was a relatively short-lived experience (about a year) where I was doing Call of Duty related videos too. It was fun but it didn't really take off so I stopped doing it. Plus, it competed with my time for guitar videos.

Yeah for sure. In fact I read that when the Scorps hired Mathias at the end of the 70s, they were looking for someone with contemporary chops because of the rise of Van Halen and his influence of guitar.

Thanks for posting, this is a great lesson bro!, I just got the new EVH Star, I'm more of a Les Paul bluesy player like Slash and Jimmy page so this EVH stuff is a big change for me, that part in the second solo 14,17, 20 is really hard, I never stretched that far before doing a phrase WOW!! Eventually/hopefully I'll nail it if I keep on it, still trying to figure out which fingers to use that makes it easier haha VH II has always my favorite from them.

Great tutorial! But does anybody know what are the names of the effects EVH uses on his studio version during the solos of this song? Is it flanger with overdrive? It sounds so amazing. Reminds me of some Randy Rhoads solos

How do you like that EVH? I have the same one. Mine wouldn't stay in tune for crap from the factory until I figured out how to setup a Floyd rose properly, now I love it. I kind of wish it had the Frankenstrat pickup instead of the Wolfgang you would think that's what they would have put in it but oh well I can always put one in I guess Wolfgang sounds good too I can't really complain too much.
@davidhold828
@davidhold828 9 жыл бұрын
AchillesWrath1 Yeah I dig the guitar for sure... agree about the pickup, but I still like it. My didn't come set up properly either, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they aren't made in the US factory.

CORRECTION!!! Eddie was not tuned a half step down from A 440 - Eddie tuned his guitar with his strobe tuner calibrated to 432Hz and tuned from their. I grew up trying to learn Van Halen songs thinking Eddie was a half step flat, but my guitar was still a little out of tune with the album. I just figured my turn table was causing this. Fast forward to today's digital world and the same thing was happening. I bought an EVH Frankenstein replica and out of the box it was set up perfect and in tune - even when jamming with early Van Halen songs on KZfaq. I checked the tuning with my Chromatic tuner and discovered that when I set the tuner calibration at 432Hz the guitar was perfectly in tune. So for all you Eddie Van Halen fans - you need to tune your guitars with your tuner calibrated to 432Hz. Turn up your amps and be prepared to have your mind blown on how responsive your guitar becomes tuned at A 432Hz!!! You're welcome.

Hey man thanks for taking the time to comment so thoroughly. I've know about this forever too, but prefer to just keep things simple and say 1/2 step down, even though it's slightly off. :)

+Julian Saenz ... Hi Julian, don't give up man! I think it helps to practice the solo slowly, and then work up to the correct speed. Practice along to the original song at 1/2 speed to start with. Most music players allow you to change the speed. That is how I learn too! :)

What pedal do you use for the solo?

Back then I was using a Line 6 POD HD500 for recording, and now I use a Line 6 Helix. Regardless, I typically use the following effects coming from the processor: phaser and chorus (very slightly), plus delay and reverb. :)
