I am really finding this as well. Coming from guitar rig, the DSP plugins are fantastic. I am trialing the Corey Wong version currently and it's very good. It's not nearly as noisy as other ones I have tried and there seems to be less compression. Love it.

100% - 2023 and I just first tried Neural and was blown away. I demoed a few of their packs and Rabea's was a winner by far from the ones I tried. You can tell he put his heart and soul into making it. Yes I was looking for as close to as I could get to a real guitar tone but his plugin is amazing when it comes to sparking creativity with it's synth. Knocked it out of the part for sure

Great video, Bea! Perhaps a quick follow-up video could be your personal thoughts on input gain staging with amp sims? I've used IR loaders with real tube amps and load boxes for a few years now, but I'm dipping my toes into the world of amp sims now as well. One thing I'm struggling with is proper input gain staging. Rather than just plugging my guitar in to an amp and just messing with the preamp and master volumes, now I need to worry about: #1 the input gain of the interface, #2 the input gain of the amp sim itself, #3 the normal preamp and master volumes on the amp sim and #4 the output gain on the amp sim. Some people have said to stay under a certain input like -12dB, while others have said to crank it and just make sure you're not clipping.

Gain staging is soooo confusing for me... I hope someone take that on a video
@scottydogg278
@scottydogg278 4 жыл бұрын
General rule of thumb is to turn up the input gain on your interface while playing about as hard as you expect to play (hard palm muting is super effective here) until your interface input clips then back off. Then in your DAW, just go ahead and play - you shouldn’t be clipping at that point and you should be set :) Don’t overthink it, as long as you’re not clipping going in or in your DAW you’re set. Plugins like Neural DSP’s have an ‘input gain’ dial. If you wanted to, you could back off or increase the signal going into the plugins (I’ve never bothered BTW and have gotten great results with Neural DSP plugins). Hope this helps and feel free to post any follow up questions you may have :)
@thruthenever
@thruthenever 4 жыл бұрын
@@scottydogg278 That is helpful, thank you. I'm definitely overthinking the whole thing. It's the input gain dial on the amp sims that is throwing me, as it's another variable I wasn't really expecting. The Mercurial amp sims even take it a step further by suggesting you set the input gain on the amp sim at different settings based on single coils, passive humbuckers, active HBs, etc. I'm used to just plugging different guitars into an amp head and maybe, at most, needing to set the preamp gain or volume differently to match the pickups :)

As a little i know if the audio interface is used in one software (the standalone plugin) can't be used at the same time on another software (the daw). Randy Epp probably also has a lot to do with their marketing in general - I’d you look at their Instagram profile, they’re reposting basically just shreddy metal riffs lol But yeah - their plugins do so much more than just metal

one thing that I needed to get a better signal and tone going into my interface was a DI. i used an old RED BOX MK III with cab sim and it worked great. Otherwise, the sound was way off and had no sustain or punch.

Bea, I have a host of great plugins from Bias Pro to S-Gear (Scuffam Amps). Thinking about the DSP thanks to you but have a couple of questions; do you sell your IR's as a pack as some of your cab sims are fab. What broadcasting software to KZfaq do you use, is it OSB? Cheers.

Nice, breaking shi* down to molecules, concise. So are neural DSP plugins considered the best out there? is the new quad cortex unit, which Rabea with Andertons demoed recently, just these plug ins in a fancy box with a brilliant UI and those bullet proof foot switches, and the ability to share sounds with mates?

So new to plug ins here. All I need is my apple MacBook, my Scarlett 2i2 2nd generation and of course my guitar? I can use headphones to my computer to hear what I’m playing.

Ok I love this guy. Straight to the point. I haven't used anything like this in about 10 years and this is a great refresher course. I don't give many compliments but you earned one man. Also, I'll trade you my shitty straight hair for your hair. Just saying.

Hey buddy’, Great video again! I saw you didn’t do any of the recommendation macOS system optimization? I’m trying the Nolly plugin, I am getting what is a loss, dropouts - say, for example, I stop paying the sound output bar drops, and no noise can be heard.
