I've just been getting into Jazzmasters in my 67th year, most of which I played guitar. Why didn't I try one before?! Now I have a few, including a couple with wide-range pickups from "The Creamery" and Lollar's "Regals" wired without tone pots, just one volume for both pickups. Jason Lollar said that players in the old days ditched their anodized aluminum pickguards, because it effects the inductance making the pickups darker, and players wanted the brightest possible sound, so they changed to plastic pickguards. They look cool, but I love a beautiful tortoise pickguard the best on almost all finishes.

Can you make a video about all of the tools you have for guitar full setups and how to use them? I'm referring to what you used to check the pickups, and I didn't get to see what you were using the check the action. These are such great videos and it really helped me realize that I can do some of these repairs myself if I had to.

That’s just a string height gauge. Sold on Stewmac.com and a multimeter, available at any hardware store.

I have this guitar and the MiM road worn Inoran from a couple years ago. I was thinking of changing out the pickups in the road worn for something else. Might have to check out this maker.

Just wanted to come back and update my comment. I found a used set of fender wrhb in the JM housing. I put them in the black Inoran with black pu covers. Sound great with the stock pots.

Great video! Questions? Did the original Inoran bridge have a wider string spacings? .52mm? or 55mm? Did it play and sound different with the buzz stop? And how is the Inoran pickguard different than the USA JM ones? screw holes? alignment? Cheers! HGT
@LoungingGuitars
@LoungingGuitars 7 ай бұрын
It’s a threaded vintage style bridge saddle so it didn’t have an exact string spacing. Buzz stops introduce an additional friction point so it tuning stability is compromised further. The holes do not line up on the pickguard.

Those pickups sound amazing 🙌 I just ordered a set of ‘58-‘64 vintage correct with Alnico 2 and another set with Alnico 5 by Q pickups. Hoping I can get a similar tone, yours sound killer. Starting to wonder if I should’ve gotten an Inoran instead of the Vintera 👀

I'm looking for a Tortoise pickguard for this model, but it's very difficult... How is Pure Pickguard different from USA's?
@LoungingGuitars
@LoungingGuitars 10 ай бұрын
If you would like an authentic 60s tortoise shell guard, look up Lava Guards, Avantguard Pickguards, or Spitefire Pickguards. They make custom guards that will fit your Inoran.

What starting point do you recommend for neck and bridge pickup heights?
@LoungingGuitars
@LoungingGuitars 10 ай бұрын
I usually do 1/8” for the bridge pickup while fretting the string on the last fret and just a bit under 1/4” for the neck pickup. And then adjust from there to taste.

When you said the pickup covers would warp did you mean putting them in the hot coffere or the freezer or both? Thanks. Really dig what you did to the guitar.

@@LoungingGuitars Thanks. Yours inspired me to do the same color scheme on my Pbass but can't find aged white pickup covers. Just plain bright white. Have cream covers but they don't look right with a gold guard. Cheers.

I would say on a late 50s PBass build, a black pickup cover would be period correct.
