My introduction to Triumph was that RCA records compilation of tracks from their first and second albums, which has that 'live' shot on the cover and is called rock and roll machine on the spine but not the front cover or the label - those just say Triumph. It thankfully has Blinding Light Show which is the song that hooked me in to them, unfortunately they left off the New York City tracks and Rik's City trilogy that Pete mentioned, but as an introduction was fantastic.Almost immediately after getting that Just a Game came out but I drifted away after that, not because they werent great, it was more because I couldnt afford to buy everything and in those days unless the one or two rock radio shows played them or yur friends had their albums there was no real way to keep more up to date with everything. I did however, pick up their Living for the Weekend Anthology in 2005 which is fantastic and posibly a solution to the spotty problems Pete talks about, and then I got the live at Sweden Rock in 2012, again great album. I definitely have to go visit them on Spotify though to catch up on what I've missed.

Oh man, I just splurged on a bunch of Triumph albums... I only know their 3 biggest hits ("Magic Power", "Lay It...", "Fight..."). I'm sitting next to a stack of 12 unopened CDs, their 10 studio albums, plus Stages and Live at the US Festival. Watching this in anticipation of doing a huge deep dive.

Living in the UK, Triumph weren't really known. My first exposure to Triumph was "Never Surrender". I bought the album purely because they were a power trio from Toronto Canada. You can see where I'm going with this but I loved it and have all there albums now. Great name for a rock band.

I remember first time I discovered Triumph in 1979 a couple of car loads of Friends and a couple Brothers going to Dallas 79 Texxas Jam and my oldest Brother had a 8 track tape that was Just A Game and I liked the Rock’n game board on cover and I put that tape in and never pulled it out rest of weekend and when I got home called our local radio station and requested Triumph and the DJ had never heard I went out and bought 2 albums of Just A Game and gave one to DJ at Radio Station and told him Lay it on The Line and Hold On and to this day that radio station still play’s Lay it on The Line my first chance to see Triumph Live they were Headlining and UFO and Girls School I was a Big Fan I had heard they were really set going in San Antonio Tx and being a Texan definitely adopted that Band and I ended up getting to see them Live 9 times the Never Surrender Tour I got to see 3 times they played the Texxas Jam in 83 with Sammy Hagar and Others I remember they had played US Festival 2 weeks before and this would be my first time to see them in Daylight no lights and I remember Ted Nugent had got the 70 thousand fans Rocking then Triumph was Nearly Perfect and Sammy Hagar the crowd was Loud On Sammy’s encore he brought Rik Emmett and Ted Nugent out to play a Led Zeppelin song and Wow! I would tell everyone about Triumph and the last time I saw them was with Phil X and I got to meet Gil Moore and Mike Levin and I got to see Rik Emmett a few times solo one time just him and he said I am going to play a Song Triumph not him had ever played live Just A Game Loved that! I still have them at Top of list since 1977 I have gotten to see almost 700 concerts and I would have Loved to see Triumph a lot more and Progressions of Power is a Really Good Album and I still reach for Never Surrender first and Allied Forces and I Absolutely Love Triumph Live and that is a Great Album and I still Love watching the Live DVDs I remember in 87 Triumph US Festival were the first to have rights to their recorded performance on VHS and I got to go see Mike Levin he did a DVD release and would Host showing at a Movie theater with Great Sound Loved that! Thank You for Keeping them talked about I Absolutely Love the Rik Emmett and Steve Moses Solo on next to last album last with Rik and I remember hearing them on Rock line talking about that album!

You're so fortunate to have seen TRIUMPH 5 times. I never got that opportunity. TRIUMPH; OZZY with Randy RHOADS; and WHITE LION (Vito BRATTA) are three artists that I wish I could have seen live in concert.

@@fbettr2627 very fortunate I also saw Ozzy with Randy on Blizzard and Diary tours. So good!! Funny story on the Diary show was driving to the show and the radio said the show was postponed due to bad reaction to his rabies shot for biting the bat head off a few weeks before that. So we had to wait 2 weeks.

@@Starman2112ofKings Wow! You saw Randy on the BOO and DOAM Tours. Randy was a blessing from above. I'm also a big RUSH and Alex LIFESON fan. My favourite RUSH albums are: 'Hemispheres'; 'Permanent Waves'; 'Power Windows'; and 'Counterparts'. The 'Counterparts Tour' in 1994 remains my favourite concert.

@@Starman2112ofKings So cool that you attended all these iconic tours. I discovered RUSH in 1990 with 'Presto'. I attended every subsequent tour beginning with 'Roll The Bones' in November 1991. The masters screwed up the intro to 'Force Ten' on the RTB Tour. They laughed it off; apologized to the fans; and restarted the song given the click track was synced with the video projection. I think it was the second or third date on the tour. Also during 'Force Ten', these guys behind us got into a big fight over some guys sitting in their seats; and security and police removed them from the sold-out arena. I was so excited to attend my first RUSH concert. Good times, indeed!

Well for me… listening to Triumph wasn’t buying Lps… I staring following them live in 1980 right up to their break up show at Canada’s wonderland Sept 3rd 1988…. and for me you can’t just listen to the music… you had to experience it live… Gil was a fucking genius when it came matching stage production to the songs… remember… in the studio there tons of backing guitar tracks, extra harmonies… etc… anyways…. The thunder 7 tour was a masterpiece… not every song was from T7 didn’t matter Gil made a theatrical masterpiece outta that tour… and remember.. they did play , 4 tracks on most of that tour from T7…. Spellbound, follow your heart, time goes by, and midsummer’s daydream… they always started when the lights go down… never surrender, magic power, allied forces, follow your heart, spellbound, mid summer’s daydream, lay it on the line, fight the good fight, ….. I realize I’m getting off topic…. But that was the best hard rock concert of all times…. If you were one of the lucky ones to experience it… you know what I mean… Is to bad that lighting designer left after T7 tour.. because think how awesome it would have been to have him when Santers was playing back up guitar and keys and harmonies… would have been sick bitches!!!! Triumph rules!!!?,

'Little Boy Blues' is an excellent instrumental from Rik EMMETT. 'Thunder Seven' was my introduction to TRIUMPH in April 1985. 'Thunder Seven' remains my all-time favourite rock album, along with JOURNEY's 'E5C4P3' (1981).

Great band, on record and on stage! I think Triumph ‘suffered’ from its diverse musical leanings, which at times seemed to confuse what they were about and could seem like a lack of direction. Gill Moore’s straight-forward hard rock approach contrasted with Rik Emmett’s more imaginative numbers but l think what tipped the balance was Rik’s desire to always do something else in an overtly different style, be it jazz, classical, or whatever. He did everything brilliantly but for me, his ‘now for the … bit’ approach became too predictable and the novelty soon wore off. My favourite Triumph album? ‘Just a Game’ (the first one I heard, when it came out).
