Such a cool lady. And a force on guitar. She's stood toe to toe with all the big boys, and toured multiple times as Micheal Jackson's guitarist, yet she still talks and acts like a normal human. In these days of mass narcissism, that's refreshing and should be a lesson to all.

Yes. It was 2000, or there abouts. Jeff was at the outdoor venue in Tinley Park, IL. It was his first time touring the States in quite a while (my first time seeing him). It's the only show where I sat on the edge of my seat and didn't move for two hours, my jaw agape the whole time. He was masterful and she was a powerhouse. Jennifer was a great compliment to the music with perfect tone (which anyone playing with JB must have).

@MeTuLHeD
@MeTuLHeD 4 жыл бұрын
"Beautiful tone with no need of a multitude of plugs and Axe´s effects like most people use nowadays." LOL! She uses a crap TON of effects. That RP1000 puts over 1500 effects combinations at her fingertips. I agree, she has great tone. But it has ZERO to do with her use of effects gear or lack thereof. She's just a great player.
@endtyme1345
@endtyme1345 4 жыл бұрын
@@MeTuLHeD I wanted to express that A LOT of musicians nowadays don't even use pedals. They configurate the digital plugs at their commodities like the Axe's because they are so f@ckin LAZY. (Also that's the reason why so many guitar players sounds exactly THE SAME.)
@MeTuLHeD
@MeTuLHeD 4 жыл бұрын
@@endtyme1345 "They configurate the digital plugs at their commodities like the Axe's because they are so f@ckin LAZY." I'm not sure we are understanding each other. I tend to both agree and disagree. 1. Disagree: Configuring a plug in or a virtual amp device like an Axe FX, Kemper, Helix, etc. is exactly like configuring an analog signal path. You have knobs and buttons and endless tweaking. In fact, I would argue that the virtual amps give you MORE tonal flexibility than an analog rig in terms of being able to tweak tone. Just the sheer volume of cab impulse responses alone which are available today is absolutely overwhelming. 2. Agree: Musicians in general...and kids in particular...hear a tone which they love and go on a quest to reproduce THAT sound. But in all fairness, it's been that way since LONG before there were plug ins and virtual amps. How many children of the 80's heard Sir Edward and started lusting after a Marshall stack and a Variac? So it's nothing new. But here's what they don't understand. Let's take Jennifer's signal path for example. You can buy a Blu Amp 1, run an RP1000 in the effects loop and pipe that out to the exact same cab she uses on stage (Marshall, Mesa, whatever) but you STILL will not get her sound. Why? Because it's HER tone. It's the way she holds the pick, the way she addresses the strings, the way she mutes the notes, her left hand vibrato and on and on and on. It's dozens of variables that make her sound like HER. If you get all her gear, you still won't sound like her. You will sound like you playing through HER GEAR. And that's where the kiddos quest for tone ultimately fails. True, virtual amps have made it possible to download presets actually created by and used by the artists themselves. Which means, if I want Plini's rig, I can use his presets and have his exact signal chain. Which does in turn lead to a certain "sameness" in tonality among many players who are slavishly trying to reproduce his signal path. But here's the rub. I still won't sound like Plini. Why? Because he's a unique player with a particular style. Just having his gear does NOT give me his sound.
@endtyme1345
@endtyme1345 4 жыл бұрын
@@MeTuLHeD Agree! Great comment! Loved that part of "Just having his gear does NOT give me his sound" that synthetizes my whole idea. I use Plini's Archetype btw...DAMN!#@! LOVEEE THAT PLUG! (Lol) & I think virtual signals has made easier to deal with common problems of analog sources, but for some reason I have to come back to my Fender twin reverb or my Marshall cabinet and a few pedals...but honestly with the Fender twin reberb and a digital reverb pedal I'm more than happy lol! Maybe it's time to let so many digital processors and start with the basics first? Do new kids know that feeling of an endless bending through their own fingers? ❤

I remember reading, way back in about 1984. The Jackson Five were going on tour for the first time since the 70's, and Michael was going to be with them. There was a lot of hype around that tour. They couldn't find anyone outside of Eddie VanHalen who could play the guitar solo to Beat It. Eventually they found Jennifer Batten--she could play it. Yes, lots of very good guitar players can do that solo today, but JB was doing it back in the day. She was ahead of her time. She is a virtuoso and she's still getting it done today. She is an inspiration.

You got wrong info. She was M.J.'s guitarist and wrote Beat it. She couldn't play the solo part she wrote and EVH stepped in and played it on the recording. Later on she learned how to play the solo. The video and info is out there. She is a great guitarist that doesn't get the credit she deserves 🎸

@@davidkastin4240 I stand corrected (Happily). I had read what I posted in the Ann Arbor News way back when. Now it is good to know the actual truth. I went to Herb David's Guitar Studio in Ann Arbor (now closed) at that time and found Jennifer's book with an attached cassette that demonstrated tapping technique and was full of licks--all using tapping. A book well beyond my ability, but even back then she was proving she was an advanced, professional guitarist.
