WHY THE OLDER TAYLORS SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE NEW ONES ?

Good to see you again Jarvis! I just returned a 914ce with v-class bracing because it didn't sound like a 914; it was weak sounding - lacked the punch and bass. I hope Taylor goes back to x bracing for the larger bodied guitars.

After playing every acoustic guitar on nyc’s now sadly gone 48th st guitar district in about 2001, I pulled a 514 off the wall and was absolutely blown away by its warmth and dynamic sensitivity. I wound ordering a non-cut-away, non-electric version, and never regretted it. Like this reviewer says, it doesn’t like to be bashed, but if you pay close attention to how you strike the strings, you’ll be rewarded with a guitar that really sings. It’s as though it’s alive. It really breathes. Amazing guitar! Perfect size, too. Mines never for sale. It does need to have a few frets replaced, but that’s ok.

I have a 2014 514ce cedar over mahogany and I have to say I recently tried the V-class version and thought it was A W F U L, and very thin sounding in comparison. And the es2 sounds amazing, but the finger and pick noise is way too loud. I pulled it out and put a k&k pure mini.

That is just bad...the ES2...needs to be adjusted..

I remember the late 90s checking out all the Taylor guitars. They all sounded amazing. I recall it was a hard choice between the 514 , 714 and the 814. I wanted to like the higher series… But There’s just something special about the mellow cedar paired with a mahogany or Koa back and sides. Super sweet tones

Played a few solid cedar top guitars with mahogany back and sides. They sound great and not as bright as spruce-tops. Would be interesting if you do a comparison of this older 514ce with the more affordable Alvarez AG75ce which uses solid red western cedar top. Comprehensive review!

Cedar seems to really lend itself to fingerstyle playing.

I played a Taylor 512 12 fret with a cedar top and it was one of the best Taylor guitars I’ve ever heard. My first guitar was a Taylor GC5. People talk about how you can top out a cedar topped guitar and I found it hard to do. For just straight up playing all styles the older 5 series guitars are great.

cedar is one of top woods that i love...thats why every Olson Guitar made by Jim Olson is cedar and even james taylor uses it for his guitars. sweetness of cedar is not found on other species of wood

Great video Jarvis! Did I miss your reasoning on why the older model sounds better? How does it compare to more modern 514 V-class versions?
@TheGuitarSpaSingapore4 жыл бұрын
well it's just two guitars with different flavours of tone due to the bracing pattern.
