📕► FREE Chord & Songwriting Guitar eBook - go.guitarzero2hero.com/ebook/
Hey all! This is a follow up to my previous video on How To Learn Songs by ear which seemed to resonate with a lot of you. In this video I'll be discussing how I learn guitar solos or lead guitar parts by ear using a real world example and how I go about transcribing it. I'll be using Greta Van Fleet's The Weight Of Dreams to demonstrate. This song has an epic 3 minute guitar solo, and although I don't transcribe the whole thing, I show you my process in real time.

Please do more videos like this more often. Like a video on a tone of techniques or a lesson on timing. Maybe even a lesson on fluidity in your playing/ improvising.

Very nice detailed video. I mostly learned to play the guitar myself many years ago and I did quite a bit of transcribing back then, using Power Tab. Even though I couldn't play half the stuff I tabbed at full speed at the time, and even now, listening to the final result playing in midi in power tab in sync with the original recording was satisfying 😂. This is a really good way to train your musical ear, as you said. So people I do recommend you follow his guides here. If you're a beginner have some patience, take it slowly, and don't give up.

Wow. I'm trying to learn guitar as I've been told it's one of the better ways of slowing the progression of Dementia. I've tried several different online tutors but this guy has made the fretboard intuitive and not at all as complicated as some others seem to suggest it is. I've just spent the last hour watching and making notes only to find it's 2am here. Too late to try out this methodology. I can't wait until the morning to see if I can actually make any progress. I'll report back. Thank you for making the whole idea of learning to play a good deal less daunting. God bless

Is there an appropriate time to use TABS when the guitar technique is more complex than your ability to play by ear? Like a Wes Montgomery solo?
@GuitarZero2Hero
@GuitarZero2Hero 4 ай бұрын
Yes for sure, I think TABs are a great tool, learn how to use both effectively, but never trust TABs blindly, use your own ear. Places like ultimate-guitar often have incorrect user submitted tabs so just be mindful of that.

What about fast ass licks? I'm a fan of Slash and the runs he does in all of his solos (I'm thinking Nightrain, don't damn me) are impossible to decipher
@GuitarZero2Hero
@GuitarZero2Hero 3 жыл бұрын
You’ll have to slow down to 50% speed or slower, but it’s not impossible to decipher. Start with easier licks and solos and over time you’ll understand how to transcribe harder ones. I wouldn’t recommend to just jump straight into a super fast solo, walk before you can run!
@IGarrettI
@IGarrettI 3 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarZero2Hero I've been trying to transcribe for some time now thanks to Justin Guitar, but been getting discouraged with fast solos. They just sound like blbllblbll even at slow speed
@GuitarZero2Hero
@GuitarZero2Hero 3 жыл бұрын
Try to understand that Slash uses a lot of pentatonic scales. If you learn more of his personal playing style through TABs you’ll get a better idea of how he would structure his licks. I think his super fast playing is harder decipher because he uses quite a bit of wah too. My suggestion is to learn more solos through lessons/TABs and that will help you when it comes to transcribing. I also think transcribing easier solos is the best path to take before tackling shredding runs. That takes a LOT of focus and a deep understanding of how the original player plays in general
