For me this video shows what Gulda´s take on Mozart is all about. Brutal sound sometimes? definitely. Too fast? Maybe, but also Mitsuko Uchida is too fast sometimes. You may like it or not, but Goulda is definitely one of the most gifted pianists ever. I like it because it sounds powerful, and I like this kind of Mozart interpretations. Obviously, Mj Pires or Brendel would play this in a totally different manner, which I would also like.

@Yaroable I absolutely agree with you. Actually I think Gulda is often way too slow and plays too many breaks/caesuras for a so rhythm-based dancer like Mozart but this here one is a fine performance and briliantly played: pace and sensitivity. I guess many play Mozart slow because he indeed is a challenge played faster. ^^

@varfordogjesus I do think it's a little fast, but this is Mozart, and would have been played on a PianoForte... only two dynamics... and Gulda does make that contrast...

the tempo is fine. I think there has been a trend in recent years to play things much slower than they need to be. People seem to equate slow playing with feeling and emotion. You can play fast and with musicality!

@laura5787 I do not think Mozart himself played it slower.

Obviously too fast, but this is normal for Gulda, almost always out of cadenza! He is a great pianist.

Actually, isnt the third movement supposed to be fast. Since the 2 first movements are slow, its normal for the third movement to be fast, or not, the whole audience would be sleeping by now.

Great interpretation!! The speed doesn't bother me at all, it is very naturally played!

@Yaroable Who knows how Mozart played it? :)

Yes, too fast but... he can. I'm not a great fan of Gulda, but he has the right to play it so fast, beacause he does it perfectly. Anyway, I like the result.

the sound is terrible. the accents are brutal. his touch had been very aggressiv. no elegance at all. he will not stay in the hall of fame of historical pianists. i am sure. but he had been one of the most gifted pianists. just the result is quite poor. however - it is always interesting what he was going to produce.

Ugh. I've been very impressed by Gulda in the past but this is lifeless.
