Gulf Coast Swing 3: Thunderstorms Around Tampa

Күн бұрынChapter three of our Gulf Coast Swing Series. We depart Auburn, Alabama (AUO) on an IFR flight plan and climb through the clouds quickly after takeoff. Enroute to Tampa Executive, Florida (VDF) we discuss our short stay at Auburn and the plan with the thunderstorms/weather that is around the Tampa area to ensure a safe arrival. Maggie and Jay were waiting on us...stay tuned when the 4 of us head down to Key West!

As always great video. I’m using your IFR clearances to practice writing down the clearance and making sure I capture the correct info. Starting instrument ground next month.

I hope y’all enjoyed your visit to The Plains and congrats to your football team on a great win. Auburn is a wonderful place. It gets in your blood and affects your soul. I think you may have gotten a taste of what I’m talking about during your visit judging by the words of Jaime. I live close by and go to the Auburn airport very frequently to watch air traffic in and out. Enjoyed your video

Must say it was quite amazing I started watching this and my 10 year old son Ethan out of the blue hears you guys and says, dad where are they headed to know. It was so cool that he is interested as well. I then hear him playing with his planes and jets saying 1 Brovo Charlie, he has been learning more right along next to me! His room walls are covered in aircraft. Love this little dude. Hope you all had a great trip, sunny and bright today here out west. Go Air Force🇺🇸love my kids. Everyone says hello!!😊

Kevin, Another great video. I love your autopilot. Haven't seen one that smooth. In particular, how it captures the pitch up when adding flaps. I remember always having to tap/bring mine in slowly to avoid the pitch. One of your best upgrades. You are all really enjoying your C310 and having so much flying and traveling enjoyment at your own pace....rightly so. Until next time, safe flying.

Glad you enjoyed it RL! The STEC 3100 is really amazing. The flap compensator works spot on. The split flaps in 310 usually causes a significant ballon but you can't even feel it with the autopilot on. :)

Sounds like they need to plant a fireproof ficus over there ... 🤣 I've only been to GA a couple times. Loved it! In fact, I feel good anytime the Northeast is in my rearview mirror. 😁 Maybe someday permanently! I can dream ... Nothing like breaking out of the clouds. If there's any one thing that could sell a pilot's license with an IFR rating, that's it right there. Absolutely amazing!! I love that. It looks so great on video, I can only imagine how epic that is in person. Thanks for the vid as always, Kevin & Jamie! 👍🍻

Ahh, Tampa Fall Weather. The forecasts tend to change hourly this time of year some years. And they are often only accurate if you allow a few hours leeway. Or not... Great video as usual, thanks!!

Nice Job guys!! Kevin...don't ever take for granted how fortunate you are to have a wife that is a perfect co-pilot and fluent in speaking on the radios!! I can't even get my wife to sit beside me...let alone communicate for me! My mistake. Next time....I will buy a two-place plane and we will fix that problem! Come on down to Port Aransas (KRAS)! That is my neck of the woods! Such a great place to fly into and I will show you guys a good time! Beach, offshore fishing, great food and a really cool beach town vibe to the place (everyone drives golf carts)!

One of my favorite views in aviation. :) I've done extensive studies and the left side of the center line is more conducive to soft touch downs than the right. :)

@@310Pilot I grew up in Texas and was lucky to spend my High School and College years living in Galveston. After college, I took a job in Missouri and it took me about 20 years to make my way back to the gulf coast. My wife knew within two days of dating me that if we ever got married, we would be moving to Texas at some point. She both she and my daughter love it here and have no desire to go north during the winter!

You discussed Port Aransas, it's a little south of Corpus with an approach that brings you in over the beach for a nice view in and outbound. Pristine water and a fun little town to hang out in. My wife and I make it a point to visit at least once a year...

Turns out it was a failure of the surface de-ice switch which caused the boots to fully inflate and never let up. This caused both pumps to fail within 10 min of each other. We got all components replaced and are good as new. Always learning. :)

Mr. Updyke, the guy who poisoned the trees is looking to do some more jail time because he hasn't paid his restitution, which he never will. Glad you guys enjoyed your stay in Auburn. It is a great place to visit, and again congrats to your Dawgs who visited there last week and defeated our Tigers. Was a good game for one quarter..War Eagle. Loving this tour cause we live in Tampa for 27 years. It is a great city.

Yes, Port Aransas is in Texas, it’s a neat little beach town on Mustang Island on the Gulf coast, near Corpus Christi, you guys should fly into there, they have an airport in Port Aransas... I grew up a few miles from there in Aransas Pass

The new avionics are really amazing. The more I see you use them the more I am able to get my head wrapped around what they are doing, and how they work together. And you said they pulled 30 lbs of wire out to boot. WOW. Never been to the deep south, been to Missouri once, want to go back and chase some family history, when we hook up the 5'er for a lap around the country in a couple years sounds like we need to visit Georgia too.

I for sure would recommend North Georgia and Coastal Georgia during your travels. Really nice/pretty places. Glad you're enjoying the channel and how the avionics/upgrades are turning out. It's been fun for me as well during this journey and loving how much safer/efficient she is. :)

Jamie has the mental capacity to become a superior instrument pilot. She is amazing with communications, which is difficult to learn. Please encourage her to get that instrument rating. She is a natural.
