Key West was a blast but it's time to go! This is a VFR departure out of Key West International (EYW) and during the flight over Fort Myers we pick up our IFR clearance into Tampa Executive Airport (VDF). After the flight Jaime and I grab lunch in Tampa with Maggie and Jay and then we continue our Gulf Coast Swing adventures. Stay tuned for more fun in the sun!

Nice flight !!!!! I have to say that I really enjoy getting to hear your communications where you are controllers. And I think this channel can give all of us pilots a better understanding of what controllers are thinking when we all communicate with them. Nice kinda behind the scenes if you will. Awesome

Great clip! I was stationed at Key West Naval Annex in 1969 with HS-1 ASW Training Squadron. As you turned north from the airport, I was able to see the Annex out your left window... Hanger and all still there. Thanks for bringing me the memories! I totally enjoy watching your clips.

Thanks for the videos, have been enjoying your posts. Not sure where I first heard “hair of the dog” but have been familiar with it for some 30 plus years. Maybe my Navy days, also the blimp tethered in the keys as I recall was for drug interdiction and surveillance down there. I sailed the keys in 1983 and it was there back then. Thanks again for the videos, stay safe and have fun.

That's correct about the tethered blimp. I lived in Marathon for three years in the early 90's and it was there then too and locals refer to it as "Fat Albert"!

Great video guys, Efrain here and I was born and raised in Chicago now living in Sugar Grove and we have always used the term Hair of the dog when hung over and drinking a beer on Sunday morning to get ready for the Bears game.. 310 Pilot yes, the Keys are beautiful. I flew a 310R years ago. What a great airplane! I’m a B777 Captain for American now. Been living in Key Largo since the late ‘90s. You guys make a great team flying together, it’s evident you both know a lot about aviation and ATC.

Had that flight covered. I think that lady in the back seat must work TPA. I worked at MCF and then first FAA facility was EYW back in the day. Nice flight. The balloon kept an eye on our neighbor to the south as well.

Absolutely amazing video guys! Tampa is my home and I recognized all those landmarks! Including the Hard Rock! I especially enjoyed the part where you guys were making your approach into Tampa coming down through the clouds, it would have been nice to see it in real time but it's okay you speed it up! As always can't wait to see your next video! You just got to love our Florida weather!

On your climb out I noticed Key West doesn't seem to have changed that much since 1974. I went to Navy electronics school there and I met my wife there as well. Left in Feb of 74 and came back in April of 74 as well after reporting to my first Coast Guard Cutter you get married. Smooth flight there but ATC seemed out of sorts but you made a very smooth landing.

Glad you liked it James and thanks for the feedback! Always a struggle (for me) on what to edit out and keep for a manageable video length. I try to keep them in the low 20 min mark. Aviation is tough to capture a flight in less. :)

It was pretty cool getting to see it at our altitude...that thing is huge. I'm sure you guys have a blast TDY down there...especially in the winter months. You were right in my back yard. I lived within walking distance of U-le-le and Tampa Armature Works just a couple years ago and have worked a couple miles from there for 20+ years (not downtown, blue collar guy). Live up in Lutz / Wesley Chapel now next to a little airport, Tampa North I guess it goes by. I would have bought you a drink if I knew you were gonna be in the neighborhood. Maybe next time. I started my flight training three months ago and will be taking the written in three weeks. I was having a hard time communicating with ATC. Your videos have helped me a lot to say the least. I hope to have my license by the end of Jan and plan fly the Baja peninsula in April. Keep the videos coming....saludos.

You're absolutely right on the balloon. It's called TARS - Tethered Aerostat Radar System. Too bad you didn't get that on the video.

Thanks for the feedback Bill! If we had it to do over again I should have filmed it with the handheld or turned towards it to get it on the cameras for a bit. It was right at our altitude and is much larger that it looks in pictures. :)

Really enjoyed your descent through the clouds. I'm sure it was a bit bumpy, but it was beautiful! In September 2017, my wife and I were planning on spending several days in Key West after returning from a cruise, but unfortunately hurricane Irma canceled those plans. But it's still on my bucket list!

Loved the flight from Key West, did you notice any hurricane damage there? The Hard Rock on final into Tampa that is I-4 to Orlando, was that Tampa Exc. all that outdoor area. I got to get there living in MCO.....DL ticketman

As a former navy advanced instructor pilot we used to do carrier qualifications during the winter months. We would always have a navy chief come over and brief the students about the Restricted area and the ballon. I was told the radar is powerful enough to see a 16 foot sci-fi on the south side of Cuba.
