The best Mozart I have heard today, and for a long time! It sounds so fresh and unconsidered. Just what I like! Presto: Wow! Perhaps a bit too fast, but exhilarating.
@jamesnickoloff6692 Жыл бұрын
If you find the Presto too fast here, you might enjoy Richter's performance in Moscow (also 1966) where he plays it slightly more slowly (5:34 vs 5:28 here). The whole sonata takes 18:09 here but 18:50 in Moscow. You'll have to put up with some unfortunate coughing, but you can see that Richter varied the tempi from performance to performance.

So mesmerising. Mozart essence can't be enjoyed in the first go. You need to listen to it. At first it might sound bland but when its simplicity devours you, it is so magical.

This guy makes it sound extremely bland, which is quite remarkable, but it's magical in most recordings.

1st movement, measure 22 (I think), at the end of the "episode", right before the "secondary theme": I LOVE the baroque-style mordent on the finial "D (re)"... I have never seen it printed in ANY edition of this sonata that I've ever come across, but I think it fits very well... I'm afraid we forget that this type of music was never meant to be static or unyielding.. it was meant to be lighthearted and entertaining, if not downright humourous. I have adopted said mordent into my own amateur rendition of this piece, and it has had the desired effect of bringing a smile to the face of the listener. (Even some of J.S. Bach's music is jocund and merry, if not bawdy.)

Not entirely sure what opinion you're trying to convey this way. You should try out whole sentences next time. Ontopic: Very nice performance indeed! And yes: Eschenbach's performances are also lovely. What about Brendel's by the way?

I’m new to Richter. I enjoy Barenboim and Lupu. However. I find this particular Mozart sonata a tad repetitive. And after awhile the same sounds emanate from the pianos of many very talented pianists. Is it the music I don’t like? Or the inflexibility of the way this type of music is conveyed? Because, again, after awhile listening to a piece like this with the score in hand it all starts to sound like a wash of sound and no feeling is conveyed. Maybe I’m a stone. LOL.
@BachBusoni Жыл бұрын
Maybe you don't like that he plays all the repeats. Many performers leave out the repeats.
@waynesmith37673 ай бұрын
Maybe it’s mostly the crappy sound reproduction but really! … fortunately there are many good recordings of this-and other-Mozart sonatas. Richter cult, like all cults, just applauds whatever their hero does.A great pianist, surely, but is this great Mozart?
