The Amazing World of Gumball premiered an episode that gave off heavy references to liminal space and possibly another popular KZfaq series that deals with liminal space horror.

The main thing that scares me about liminal spaces is the knowing something could be walking behind you. But just quick enough to hide.

I felt that despair when my dad worked at Microsoft in the early 00’s and as kids on saturdays my dad would come in to do extra work and there usually wouldn’t be anyone in the office. Maybe a couple people, but sometimes at night, we would go on the elevator to the other floors, and got lost in the sea of empty cubicles and offices. The only sound coming from the footsteps and beeps from the server room. One time I got locked out of the building, and I panicked because the parking lot was just as bleak and desolate. 😂

I always felt like the horror of liminal spaces isn't the thought that you're completely alone (though that is a large part of it). It's the creeping thought in the back of your head that tells you "what if you're not?"

The episode could definitely be taken in a metaphorical depression sense. I mean think about how depression can make someone feel. You can feel completely alone, and isolated, even when you're surrounded by friends and loved ones. And they wont be able to get through to you unless you let them, like in the end of the episode.

I don't understand why people can't understand that it wasn't Kayne pixels who expanded the backrooms from more than just an image. Sure, he did make it a lot more popular but the backroom's expansion, or the idea of backrooms levels, was made way before the KZfaq series.
@amazingmrpig6369

Well, he did expand it. He didn’t start from just the image, but we wouldn’t have 99% of backrooms content, good or bad, without him. It would have never expanded without him.

Personally I think thats because nobody wants to really acknowledge that the wikidot exists. Yeah, it was an expansion to the backrooms universe before kane’s series came out, but in a lot of people’s opinion it just generally sucked. Im one of those people. The horror of the backrooms kind of got taken away through people’s first attempt at expanding it. I love the idea of “levels” to the backrooms and the use of liminal space images to convey that, but adding edgy and generic entities everywhere like they were mario enemies didnt really make it scarier. Classifying every level and adding this whole “M.E.G” thing just made the backrooms look like a knock off SCP foundation. Point is; that wasnt the original intent of the OG image. The backrooms is supposed to have you going insane from the fear of your surroundings, the fear that youre not alone and that your eyes keep tricking you. Was that a figure that dashed by in the corner of your vision? Kane didnt perfect this concept by any means. Its just that he utilized the LIMINALITY of it better, so people want to believe his work is the only true backrooms lore or something like that. Thats just my two cents on it. Im personally not really bothered by people forgetting about the wikidot.

The Downer Gumball wishes that his family will just leave him alone but he wakes up in a strange place (still his house but no one is home) he goes outside not going out of bed (watch the episode for context) then proceeds to knock stuff down which comes back up and hits him, Gumball calls for someone and no one responds. So he starts doing stuff, he plays with legos and steps on them somehow and flushes little Timmy down the toilet, he starts cooking a meal for 5 and shapeshifts to have a conversation with himself, Gumball, Gumwin, Gumcole, Gumnais and Gumchard, Gumball is having a bad day since his family woke him up and Gumcole has a chat with him and Gumchard talks about food, Gumball starts going insane and goes outside looking for people and no one is still there, Gumball believes that he was left behind and apologizes to no one and then things start happening, brands start having new names like Misery Burger and Captain Crud. He is then chased by the darkness and he runs home only for his house to be consumed by the darkness, Gumball remembers everything his family said. Richard said "When I'm feeling down, I get back onto the swing of things." and then he does some sort of weird pose only to realize his family was there the whole time.

Editing critique here: For the 00:55 transition effect's you can ise a slide show sound effect (fallout 3) instead of the Image_being_taken.png, you can also try and amp up the CRT effect that you put on, I can see it, but it's very faint. But very good work, wished I continued making videos but I can help younger editors out by giving them ideas and knit picks of their videos.

Honestly this episode on reflection reminds me alot of the southpark episode where Stan just sees everything in the world as shit all of a sudden- and can't enjoy anything he does anymore, no matter what help he recieves. Doing various things that he used to love doing is miserable and not e joyabke anymore and the people around him suddenly can't relate to his problems, or enjoy being around him anymore either and it destroys his friend group along with his family breaking apart in the background- seperately from his own attitude and behaviors- compounding the problem and making it worse. It's like Gumball-in the same vein as Stan- has some true depression going on, and everything is awful and unenjoyable because of it; except where Stan never recovered from it, and all outside help failed him. Gumball eventually snaps himself out of the depression and comes back to how he was.

"Gumball" is one of my favorite animated series. Last year, between September and December, I watched some episodes with attention and reflection. At the end of each episode, I thought that seeing a children's cartoon through the eyes of a teenager or an adult changes! "The Amazing World of Gumball" talks a lot about us, about our society and does not hide the phenomena that arise on the Internet. Indeed, we thank Cartoon Network for not having also covered the "Blue Whale Challenge" or other similar things, otherwise he ended up like the protagonist of the first episode of "The Backrooms" by Kane Pixels. Unfortunately, this is a very underrated animated product in Italy after the childhood age, which I am very sorry for. Let's hope for: - the new seventh season; - the movie (of "Gumball"); - the "The Backrooms" movie that Kane Parsons should be working on already.
