This is actually not entirely fake, but still trash. This experiment is frequently done to prove a biological phenomenon known as osmosis, which happens with two solutions separated by a semiwaterproof membrane (in this case, the surface of the gummybear.). Basically, the solutions will passively equalize their concentration by interchanging solvents from the more hypotonic to the more hypertonic solution (AKA, from the least concentrated to the most concentrated.) What this means is that you can actually inflate the gummy bear if you leave it in water for some days (though nowhere near as much as what you see on the vid). However, adding enough salt to the water will shrivel up the gummy bear instead. TL;DR : You can inflate the gummybear by leaving it in water for a few days, or you can make it smaller by leaving it in salty water instead. The video just mixed up both and showed the inflation to be much more exaggerated.

You don't need salt water for that ,osmosis is the process when solvent moves from lower solute concentration (water) to higher solute concentration (bear).

I think a lot of people did this in their middle school science class. Yes, Gummy Bears do grow when put in salt and water, but it almost completely loses its shape, being a giant blob of jello that’s an inch or two bigger… they don’t keep their exact shape , change colour, and grow 20 times in size perfectly 💀

One of my friends did this when we worked at the fair together. Only she used gummy worms and vodka. On the last day we had a cookout on the fair grounds behind our booth, she forgot the gummy worm shots she made for everyone in her car, and they melted, so we got them into the cooler to chill them so we could at least still have them, thinking they’d be like Jell-O shots. Only they solidified into gummy blocks inside the containers she had them in 🤣😂 it was so funny but they were also delicious!

So the funny thing is that gummy bears do actually expand and grow if you leave them in water (most gummy products do) and the longer you leave them in the larger they will grow, however, the more that water is absorbed it'll break down the structure of the gummy bear and it'll begin to rip and tear before falling apart completely. This was a middle school experiement at my school where we left the gummy bears in water for a week.

This is partially true, gummy bears do absorb water however they become translucent and no longer have a stable structure. They also lose detail and probably lose taste as well

So the hack is true, but it was executed falsely. If you do this and leave the gummy bear overnight, the texture is like jello and slightly larger, definitely not the size of a huge gummy bear it’s only slightly larger. Also because there is such little salt, you can’t taste it at all, it tastes like a normal gummy bear

My peanut butter jar says to refrigerate after opening, but I don't and nothing bad happens. I tried it once and it tasted awful and hard to spread. Creamy becomes hard clumps that rip the bread.

@@randompersonontheinernet235it's not normal in my family anyway. Cold peanut butter is difficult to spread on bread and the cold causes the oil to separate from the solids. It's not necessary to store it in the refrigerator for safety either.

This thing works but the gummybear grows maybe like twice its size so it gets bigger but definitely not this big.. you don't have to add salt to the water, and it absorbs it but it tastes weird, it is watery and rly slimy in texture, barely holds its shape. Actually, that's half true. Gummy bears, - marmalade in general, - get much bigger in our stomach, cuz it absorbs water. I'm not sure what's the biggest size it can get, but it certainly will grow in the warm/hot water (the temperature inside our bodies is high enough). But it won't keep the same elasticity, because of the new amount of water in its composition The cold slows down the chemical reaction, that's why the actual gummy bear in this video didn't grow in the fridge as much as it would inside our stomach. That only works with regular water. In the video he used salt water, which is hypertonic. The salt should actually draw out water from the gummy bear.
