I grew up on VJTI campus next to Parsee Colony. My heartfelt homage to the amazing contribution of arrangers like Sebastian D’Souza, Dattaram, and so many others covered here and in later parts. When I am alone or working or half asleep, these tunes and interludes and orchestra plays in my mind. I think without this music, life would not have been worth living!! I would like to remember S. Hazarasingh who’s musicality was so immaculate that his electric guitar played in O Duniya ke Rakhwale, in a purely classical film like Baiju Bawara under a traditional music director like Naushad. I heard him live many times in my childhood.

Wow...what insight. Without taking away anything away from the composer, these arrangers were the REAL heroes of all those immortal melodies. I salute them and the musicians who MADE it happen.

Those so called music directors have NEVER given any kind of credit or recognition to the WONDERFUL MUSIC ARRANGER. I always wonder how the background music with very minor but necessary music piece is arranged so accurately in the song. i.e. "pyar hua ikarar hua" the slim flute played rapidly and many more songs. To ALL MUSIC ARRANGER: You were just wonderful!

Salilda and Pyareji knew western notations in those days.
@drsenani7 жыл бұрын
Shankar and Jaikishan both were `complete' composers in that they composed all music of their songs themselves: i.e. song tunes, preludes, interludes and postludes. Of course, neither Shankar nor Jaikishan knew to read or write western notations. So what? That was done by Sebastian for them who used to write in notation form all music composed by Shankar and Jaikishan. After that, it was Sebastian's job to distribute notations to all musicians, get the written music rehearsed by all of them and then conduct the orchestra according to the music composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. Moreover, both Sebastian and Dattaram were `Assistants' to SJ - not their `arrangers' ( in the sense this word is used in the context of today's' music directors for whom the so-called arrangers compose preludes, interludes and postludes!). Having said this, the importance and contribution of both Sebastian and Dattaram in reference to SJ's music and that of `arrangers` in general for other music-directors, can not be denied. But in the enthusiasm (or over-enthusiasm?) to do so, do not degrade the work of Shankar-Jaikishan-there was no one like them, neither there ever will be another like them!
