Gun grab and gun surrender: two extremes of British police gun policy

Enforced gun grab is one end of police firearms policy in the UK. Voluntary gun surrender is the other. Strangely, they use the same tools. In each case, a pair or more of armed officers - and ARV - will go to a gun-owner’s home. Across Devon & Cornwall, armed officers went to nine times the number of households they usually visit in order to seize guns. But their reign of terror is coming to an end. We meet the first shooter to defeat them on appeal. Gary Ivey gets his guns back.

Haven't ever asked about it since 1991. Webley. 455. These people are not even criminal. In the uk youll only get criminals with them, but criminals too avoid using guns coz its damn too loud. Guns in crime is usually used when gangs are fighting because chances of being armed by both parties. Uk people are good people majority so id say british people are responsible citizens in general. Was pulled on private land that I have permission to shoot on with my air rifle, they said I was not allowed to have a silencer and it was illegal because I don’t have a FAC 😂 I was treated like a criminal and their behaviour was disgusting, I told them they are on private property and must leave and unless they provide proof of a crime being committed to leave me alone, they was not happy with me one bit and decided to get onto the phone for ten minutes, then just left me without saying any more, this proves to me they biased and clueless. Good heavens. Sorry to hear of your ordeal. The law is daft in this respect you can buy a silencer to fit an air rifle without an FAC but if you intend to fit that same silencer to a.22 l.r. firearm you need a separate permission for it on your FAC. If you have another identical one to put only on your air rifle you don't need that one to be on your FAC but they can't tell which one is which because they don't have serial numbers. Right?

There seems to have been a rise in reactivations and conversions amongst criminals - amongst drug dealers, for examples, knives are becoming the norm, so it's attractive to literally outgun a threat or competitor. I can understand that having them properly disposed of if they're just hanging around seems sensible. That being said, they could legally purchase them from other sources or source an actual firearm illegally through the same routes as ammunition or reactivated/converted.

I bet that all the modern guns lying on that table are blank firers or deactivated and have no business being labeled as 'hand-ins'. The British attitude towards firearms is disgraceful to the extreme and it's by sheer terror and force that the amount of legal gun owners decreases annually. If you feel you are criminalized for being law-abiding - it is only a very small step to becoming an illegal firearms owner. This can be laid entirely at the feet of the government and the police who are spineless in this matter.

So, clearly, the police aren't 'stealing' anything they seize.

@@davidwebb2318 After the firearms have been seized, they have been removed from the possession of the owner who is thus deprived of them, even if the owner requests that they are moved to a firearms dealer or owner. They are still deprived of private property that they are legally allowed to own. If due process has not been followed and the firearms license fully and lawfully revoked prior to or as part of the seizure, this seemingly is not a legitimate enforcement of firearms law. Illegitimate enforcement of law is illegal, therefore felonious - and the police are certainly not above the law. Which is presumably why, after going through Courts etc... a number of these individuals have had their firearms returned. My point is, in such cases where an illegitimate seizure has taken place and ultimately been rectified through the courts, the financial burden of following the legal process should not fall upon the victim but upon the perpetrator - even if that is the police.

The second amendment says" A WELL REGULATED MILITIA, BEING NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" There is a reason we have a second amendment. When America defeated the British empire and won our independence our founding fathers new how important it was and how without it we would simply be trading a fascist dictator on the other side of the world for hundreds in our own borders. The liberal left here in America has become so extreme and are actively looking at transforming our great nation into a socialist dictatorship. REMEMBER HITLER AND THE NAZI WERE SOCIALIST. It’s a pity that the south west police aren’t so worried about knife attacks there ar 98% more knife crimes than gun crimes but the police pick on license holders for what reason because they let someone with mental problems have a gun license even the man’s father told the police not to let him have a license.

Never liked how anyone uses the term "weapon" when talking about guns,........ Imo anything to hand can be a weapon, about 20 years ago I declined a TV interveiw at an airgun range I was at because the local news presenter kept referring to an HW77 as "so anyone without a licence can buy this weapon".... Glad I didn't go on, watched it a couple of days later and it had been edited into a right hatchet job

This! I applied for insurance and the lady on the phone asked me if I was currently being investigate for anything which I was not but stated that someone had been turned down because they where under investigation after an allegation of assault. Just an allegation.. Then when I was about to pay a box popped up saying that they would not cover anything I had done in the past that might put my certificates at risk of revocation which is nuts.. What if someone lies about you doing something against them in the past..? You wouldn't be covered.

Realistically, the legal firearm owners aren't the ones who should be treated with so much caution, it's the silly roadmen getting illegal pistols. Plus, if someone is going to go on a massacre they're gonna do it with or without a gun in fact, you would probably do a better job with an axe or knife in a town center than shooting two people and then getting tackled because you're trying to reload.

Most Brits truly hate firearms and that is fine. As an American, I enjoy them immensely and I own a few myself but I always remember how serious gun ownership really is and I act accordingly. I'll say one thing though - if I'm ever caught in the crossfire of a gunfight and I get shot I seriously hope it's a kill shot because among other things, most Americans could NOT afford to be hospitalized with a gunshot wound and they would probably be paying expensive medical bills for the rest of their lives. I worry FAR more about unaffordable medical bills than I do being shot.

THE ENGINE IN THE CAR I HAVE WAS CAST OUT OF 4140 GUN METAL... runs very smooth even with 360'000km on it. wants/uses as is or other, hmm... can just get another later. Tho working for a living, the cost of things is increased 18 times above listed costs. making a $4000 confiscation into a $80'000 personal growth loss, can be stressful regardless of perceived composure. Different if one thinks they own the whole county "can just make hapless orders to the police, that (don't process anything themselves, but the guy giving notice see's "5 year minimum sentencing for unlicensed possession" nothing more then one civilian using engineered laws to basdardise another person for no reason other then that they can, the same as just shooting someone without explaining why the cops should go there and take them in the first place) just because it reads "..." doesn't put it in stone, find another that just reads things as they are there is no judgment in that... common thing here is if there sitting in a plastic chair and one kicks out the rear legs thus falling down there beer washes there shirt and face as the cops show up for demestic violance call "see that one bee in a fisting " grate back and forth like a prolonged state of civil tyranny, get a MP involved (military police) alleged phycological disordinance for the use in civil defamation onto another, doing so for no reason other then a law that they were algorithmically instructed to there personal account not the person there defacing". as seen 5 year minimums cant pay taxes in jail so they end up bank busting and the book worm that read page "..." out loud for no reason just gets a bigger property. no they don't, reporting progressively staged non-violent crimes that are a part of licensing procedures goes no where. recorded phycological report on accused and reporter, there reaction as to the others true motive? like the TV show American Greed.
